Lin Qingmeng wasted no time and quickly drove towards Xianwu Mountain Villa.

Due to frequent visits, the guards outside recognized Lin Qingmeng's vehicle, allowing them passage without any hindrance. The three of them proceeded smoothly.

Noticing the considerable presence of guards outside, Su Changfeng expressed his confusion. "What's happening out here? Everything was normal before, why is the place so heavily guarded now?"

"This was Zhu Lie's directive. No one is permitted to enter or leave Xianwu Mountain currently. All unrelated individuals have been relocated. He's merely concerned about news of Han Xue's condition leaking out into Jiang City," Lin Qingmeng explained.

Upon hearing this, Su Changfeng's heart sank. This confirmed that Shen Hanxue's condition was indeed grave; otherwise, Zhu Lie wouldn't have taken such extreme measures.

It was essential to remember that the residents of Xianwu Mountain were individuals of prominence and status. Forcing their temporary relocation was bound to displease some, yet Zhu Lie proceeded. He could only speculate on Shen Hanxue's current state.

"What exactly is Han Xue suffering from?" Su Changfeng inquired with growing anxiety.

"Progeria," Lin Qingmeng replied.

Progeria?

Su Changfeng's mind immediately flashed back to the events at Tuo Shi's House. He recalled Yang Ling's body rapidly withering before his eyes, transforming into a skeleton, and finally into a bead. He wondered if there was any connection between these occurrences.

If a link existed, the concept of past and present lives might hold true.

The trio eventually reached the villa. Su Changfeng opened the car door and stepped out. In the front yard, both Zhu Lie and Shangguan Sichen were present.

Upon seeing Su Changfeng, they exchanged surprised glances. Yang Junming had just informed them that Su Changfeng was on a mission with uncertain whereabouts. How had he suddenly returned?

"Chang Feng, y-you're back? Didn't Yang Junming mention you were on an important mission and he didn't know where you were?" Zhu Lie asked, his expression a mixture of surprise and curiosity.

Mission?

The primary reason Yang Junming had returned to Jiang City was to announce his supposed

Su Changfeng offered no urgency, understanding Shen Hanxue’s delicate state. Despite her frailty, she was his wife, deserving of his utmost patience and tenderness.

"Han Xue, place your trust in me. I possess a solution," Su Changfeng murmured softly.

The door before him opened gradually, revealing a head of silver hair first. Shen Hanxue kept her gaze downcast, a mix of nervousness and humility radiating from her, which sent a sharp pang through Su Changfeng’s chest.

Without further words, he drew Shen Hanxue into a firm embrace. She was the person he cherished most, and always would. Regardless of any transformation she underwent, his resolve to protect her remained unwavering.

Enveloped in his familiar scent, Shen Hanxue found herself returning his hug.

"Chang Feng, you cannot fathom the terror I endured... the fear of never seeing you again, the dread that Niannian would be motherless," Shen Hanxue confessed, tears beginning to flow. With Su Changfeng’s return, the need to maintain a facade of strength had vanished.

After closing the door once more, Su Changfeng and Shen Hanxue took a seat.

Throughout their reunion, Shen Hanxue’s head remained bowed, lacking the courage to face Su Changfeng with her altered appearance.

Su Changfeng reached out, gently lifting her chin with a persistent yet tender touch.

Shen Hanxue hesitated for a moment but soon ceased her resistance, following his motion to raise her head.

"Han Xue, my heart is filled with happiness," Su Changfeng declared, his eyes and brows alight with a smile.

Shen Hanxue regarded him, her face a picture of bewilderment, and inquired, "Happy? And why is that?"

"I never anticipated my wife’s future visage would be this beautiful as well. My discerning taste is truly remarkable, wouldn’t you agree?" Su Changfeng remarked with nonchalant confidence.

Shen Hanxue couldn’t suppress a laugh. Despite knowing he was intentionally trying to soothe her, her heart swelled with warmth.

"What have you been up to lately? Your words have become quite eloquent," Shen Hanxue teased, feigning a pout.

"You wound me. I am merely speaking the unvarnished truth," Su Changfeng protested with an exaggerated expression of hurt.

"Is that so? Even in my current state, your affection for me remains unchanged?" Shen Hanxue questioned, her gaze tinged with doubt.

Su Changfeng met her eyes with profound sincerity, placed a tender kiss upon her lips, and stated with a smile, "Naturally. In this lifetime, I, Su Changfeng, acknowledge only one wife—Shen Hanxue. If I were not to love you, whom else would I cherish?"

Shen Hanxue let out a soft sound. Since her illness had taken hold, this was the first day she had experienced such profound peace and joy.
