Chen Yuxin urged Ye Shikai to persuade the notable families to surrender. Despite initial resistance from the Ming family, Ye Shikai convinced Zheng Li to consider negotiations due to heavy losses. During the peace talks, Chen Yuxin arrived provocatively, destroying the proposed terms and escalating tensions, which Ye Shikai then diffused.

“Alright, now it’s just the three of us left, so let’s speak frankly.” Ye Shikai sat in the middle, while Chen Yuxin and Zheng Li were seated at the ends. The guards in the tent had already retreated, and the atmosphere was finally not so tense.

“Family Head Zheng, I can spare your people, but you must hand over all family resources, including cultivation resources and all personnel.” Chen Yuxin said coldly.

“That’s impossible, you might as well let me take on your surname.” Faced with such excessive demands, Zheng Li obviously couldn’t agree. Handing over all personnel to the Chen family would leave Zheng family as an empty shell; better to resist fiercely and at least gain a good reputation.

“Xin, come with me for a moment.” Ye Shikai stood up and pulled Chen Yuxin’s arm to a corner.

“Xin, what do you mean by this?” Ye Shikai whispered, but his tone was somewhat anxious. He hadn’t expected Chen Yuxin to make such harsh demands; it seemed like intentional trouble.

“Kai, you still don’t understand them. If I don’t make such demands, they will counterattack us within half a year, and more people will die. Only by completely stripping them of counterattack capability can it end.” Chen Yuxin argued.

“You’re practically asking for the whole Zheng family, he’s never going to agree.”

“If negotiations fail, then let’s go to war, Kai. He’s the one asking for talks—if not for your sake, I wouldn’t even want to negotiate. Tonight, I could make Zheng family disappear from Huaxia—better convince him, or the end for Zheng family won’t be far off.”

“Are you really unwilling to compromise?” Ye Shikai’s tone suddenly turned cold, his eyes fixed on Chen Yuxin’s.

“What’s wrong, Kai, do you have a better idea?”

“No.” Ye Shikai said lightly.

“That’s good, Kai, this time it’s I who am stubborn. Once all this is sorted out, I’ll make it up to you.” Chen Yuxin, sensing Ye Shikai’s gloominess, didn’t want the family’s issues to ruin their relationship, even if it was already nominal. Yet, she seemed to deceive herself.

“I think the time is right; this is the final ultimatum. Regardless of whether Zheng Li accepts, there will be a conclusion.” After saying this, Chen Yuxin intended to leave, when suddenly Ye Shikai reached out and grabbed her arm.

“Kai, is there something else?”

“Ahem, no rush now; it’s about mealtime anyway, let’s eat first.” Ye Shikai suddenly said.

“Alright.”

In the Zheng family camp, Ye Shikai, Chen Yuxin, and Zheng Li sat at a table, eating. Such a scene was rare, and would astonish other families if witnessed.

“Family Head Zheng, if things go smoothly, after this meal, please send your people to Yanjing.” Chen Yuxin provocatively said.

“What if I’m unwilling?” Zheng Li retorted.

“Then a fierce battle is inevitable.”

“Chen Yuxin, don’t forget, this is Zheng family territory, my turf.”

“Haha, Family Head Zheng, you wouldn’t be thinking of making a move here, would you? You can, I don’t care. Since I dare to come to a Single Blade Meeting, I’m not afraid if you act here. Frankly, if you do act, Zheng family will soon be leveled.”

“Oh? Are you planning to threaten us with those monsters?”

“What’s the difference, do you have another strategy?”

“Hmph, then let us see what the outcome will be.” Just as Zheng Li finished speaking, Zheng Ji entered the tent, alone, but not to assassinate Chen Yuxin; instead, he approached Zheng Li and whispered a few words in his ear.

“Looks like today marks the end for your Chen family.” Zheng Li suddenly said, “Those monsters of yours have all been annihilated.”

“What did you say?” Chen Yuxin questioned, though her face was calm, her tone showed some panic. Zheng Li wouldn’t speak empty words; if he said it, it was likely true.

“The National Security Bureau, using samples from the HST project’s test objects, has developed a serum against mutants. Once injected, they are dead without a doubt.” Sitting nearby, Ye Shikai slowly put down his chopsticks and said plainly. He seemed to have known this for a while, his tone very calm.

“This cannot be.” Chen Yuxin’s heart felt like it had been hit by a heavy punch, her hands trembled uncontrollably, and her expression was hard to hide.

“If this happened, why wasn’t I notified.”

“Mr. Chen, you might as well check your phone. All signals here have been blocked to prevent you from receiving news.” Zheng Ji said coolly.

“Now all mutants have been exterminated by Director Jin; Mr. Chen, your trump card is gone.”

“Kai, is it true?” Chen Yuxin hurried to Ye Shikai’s side, clutching his hand and shaking it continuously, unable to accept the reality.

“Tell me, tell me it’s all a lie, you are deceiving me.”

“Xin, we have no reason to deceive you now. I’ve said before, no matter what, I’ll face it with you; I did before, I am now, and I will in the future.”

“You… you all, I want to kill you.” Chen Yuxin’s mind went blank, her eyes flashed with killing intent.

“Feng Ling, attack.” Chen Yuxin shouted angrily, and the Chen family’s guards rushed in instantly. But Zheng Li was prepared, and this was Zheng family territory; Zheng family’s guards moved first, not only blocking Feng Ling and others outside, but over a dozen Zheng family experts charged in, surrounding Chen Yuxin.

“Mr. Chen, you should surrender.”

“Impossible.” Chen Yuxin drew the Chunjun Sword, alone against the Zheng family’s experts.

“Everyone stop.” Ye Shikai suddenly stood up, walking slowly to Chen Yuxin’s side, but she pointed her sword at him.

“Kai, you… you betrayed me.” Tears rolled down Chen Yuxin’s eyes; Ye Shikai had long known the plan, yet kept it from her, even using meal time to delay. Compared to the strategy of luring the tiger from the mountain and draining the pond, Ye Shikai’s ‘betrayal’ hurt her more, and deeper—a profound “stab”.

“I’ve never betrayed you, Xin; I’m stopping you, stopping all this from happening. Come with me; I’ve said, no matter the consequences, I’ll face them with you.” Ye Shikai reached out, trying to hold Chen Yuxin’s arm, but she dodged away.
