Ye Shikai and Ji Qian escape to a safe house and discuss Chen Yuxin's motives and the danger she poses. Ji Qian assures Ye Shikai that her family is prepared and has allies. Suddenly, they receive news that Ji Tao, the family head, has fallen gravely ill. They rush back to the Ji family manor, only to be stopped by guards who seem to be Ji Feng's men. Inside, they find Ji Tao in critical condition, with doctors and elders unable to determine the cause of his illness. Ji Feng then confronts Ye Shikai, demanding he leave.

"Third Uncle, what do you mean? Although Father is seriously ill right now, there hasn’t been a conclusion. Are you trying to curse Father by saying this?" Ji Qian’s emotions were very unstable at the moment, and she didn’t have a good impression of this uncle who had always plotted for the position of Family Head. She knew well the character of Ji Feng; he was a petty person. Those guards at the door were replaced by him, stopping Ji Qian and others from returning home, which was sufficient to show his purpose. Now, Ji Tao’s sudden critical illness naturally prompted his "actions."

"Of course, that’s not what I meant. There is a separation between inside and outside. Mr. Ye is an outsider. Right now, at this crucial moment for the family, he indeed shouldn’t be present."

"Yes, Miss, he really shouldn’t be here."

"Third Young Master is right."

A few elders chimed in, Ye Shikai glanced coldly, showing a murderous intent which he quickly concealed.

"If that’s the case, I’ll wait outside." Ye Shikai gently loosened his clenched fist and said calmly as he walked out the door.

Ten minutes later, Ji Qian hurriedly rushed out as well. Ye Shikai came out because of Ji Tao’s serious illness. He couldn’t cause a commotion in the Ji Family, but that didn’t mean he was compromising with Ji Feng. Ji Qian might not be his wife, but she was someone significant in his heart. He would protect Ji Qian’s possessions, and if anyone dared to take them away, he wouldn’t mind taking action.

"How is Mr. Ji’s situation?" Ye Shikai asked.

"The situation is very bad. Several elders have used Inner Strength to stabilize his heart pulse, but it’s uncertain how long it can be maintained." Ji Qian spoke weakly, her complexion had become much paler, almost as if she hadn’t rested for a long time. Ye Shikai embraced her without hesitating, even though they were at the Ji Family estate. He had never seen Ji Qian so defeated and lackluster; right now, she needed comfort more than anything.

"Don’t worry, I’ll always help you." Ye Shikai whispered softly in her ear, and the two just held each other like that. Ji Tao’s situation had stabilized, although the cause had yet to be identified, the Ji Family’s volunteering efforts and Ji Tao’s own Inner Strength ensured he was out of mortal danger, at least for now.

In the meeting room, Ji Qian gathered Elder Chen Ligong and others. Although no one spoke of it, everyone could see that Ji Tao was critically ill. If Ji Tao were to die, the family couldn’t be without a leader even for a day. Ji Qian, as the eldest daughter, should inherit the position of Family Head, but Ji Feng would surely not agree so easily. The family has already split into two factions. Even if unspoken, anyone could see it. However, with Ji Tao not deceased yet, they couldn’t possibly start the fight.

Naturally, Ji Qian had to win over supporters, such as the elders led by Chen Ligong. Most of them were "old timers" in the Ji Family who had followed Ji Tao in "building the family fortune." They held high positions within the family and had influence, and they were loyal enough to Ji Tao. Now, with Ji Tao critically ill, they chose to support Ji Qian, which was justified. This was perhaps the most crucial legacy Ji Tao left Ji Qian. With the support of these elders, she could at least ensure her standing in the family.

Those supporting Ji Feng were mostly cultivators who joined the Ji Family later. Ji Feng, being a petty person, naturally excelled at such matters. However, these people weren’t particularly intimidating. What truly made Ji Qian wary was the outside power backing Ji Feng. If the situation proceeded as predicted, the Chen and Wang families might choose to support Ji Feng.

Ji Qian was an excellent person. If she inherited the Ji Family, then the Chen and Wang families would face a tough opponent. Conversely, supporting Ji Feng would be akin to letting a puppet control the Ji Family; the outside families would gradually devour it and eventually divide the entire Ji Family...

"The Family Head’s situation is very dangerous; he could pass away at any moment."

"The priority is to find the root cause of the Family Head’s critical illness. We’ve already conducted examinations, and various renowned doctors have also inspected him. The reason for the Family Head’s illness is neither sickness nor poison..."

"It’s a worm." Ye Shikai suddenly spoke, his voice was not loud but sufficient to make everyone hear him. All eyes turned to this "outsider."

"What did you say?" Ji Qian said excitedly.

"If I’m not mistaken, it should be a Worm." Ye Shikai said firmly, "Mr. Ji’s illness showed no signs, and no disease foci were detected. I believe he’s affected by a Worm."

"Mr. Ye, that’s merely your speculation. You’re responsible for your words, and we can’t diagnose the Family Head’s illness based on a guess."

"And another thing, Mr. Ye, you said the Family Head is affected by a Worm, but who in the entire Yanjing has such a powerful Worm? Unless the Worm Sect from Yun City is involved."

"Indeed, I have no evidence." Ye Shikai waved his hand. He indeed had no evidence, being unfamiliar with the craft of Worms and definitely not an authority like Wuyan. His words carried no credibility, yet he was convinced. Given Ji Tao’s abilities and the Ji Family’s foundation, nothing but infection by a Worm could explain his illness, neither disease nor poison. Moreover, Ye Shikai suspected Chen Yuxin orchestrated this. In Yanjing, she had both the capacity and the motive to attack the Ji Family viciously. Ye Shikai had considered that personally, Ji Qian was the person Chen Yuxin hated the most; family-wise, the existence of the Ji Family hindered the Chen family’s expansion. He knew Chen Yuxin would target the Ji Family but hadn’t expected such swiftness and brutality in her attack.

"Now with Mr. Ji critically ill and time of the essence, I have already asked Sect Leader Wuyan and Divine Doctor Dugu Tianke, to rush to the Ji Family. I believe when they arrive, they will certainly identify the cause of Mr. Ji’s sudden illness."

"He’s right." At this moment, Ji Qian stepped up to publicly express her support for Ye Shikai, leaving the others speechless.

"Elder Chen, organize a team, ensure my father’s safety, especially in the coming days, and replace all the personnel arranged by Third Uncle."

"Yes, Miss, I’ll make arrangements right away."

"Additionally, keep news of my father’s critical illness contained; absolutely prevent it from reaching the outside."

"Understood."

In the courtyard.

"Qian, don’t put too much pressure on yourself lately. I believe Mr. Ji will be alright." Ye Shikai placed his hopes on Wuyan and Dugu Tianke; one was proficient in Worms and Worm Skills, while the other was a Divine Doctor. Upon receiving the news, they agreed almost instantly.

"Don’t worry, I’m not one to collapse easily. However, the next two days are critical, and I must keep a close watch." Ji Qian nodded in agreement.

"Qian, I suspect... I suspect this incident was done by Xin." Ye Shikai suddenly said.
