Ye Shikai starts his new role at Chen Group, facing gossip about his position as Chairman Chen Yuxin's husband. Chen Yuxin visits him at work, and later insists he attend a business negotiation. To Ye Shikai's surprise, the negotiation is with Tianya Group, and Chen Yuxin publicly displays affection towards him, seemingly to embarrass his ex-wife, Su Qingyu, who is also present. Uncomfortable and confused by Chen Yuxin's actions, Ye Shikai leaves the meeting.

Night.

"Kai, why did you come home without saying a word to me?" Chen Yuxin returned to the residence and went straight into the room, only to see Ye Shikai sitting alone on the bed.

"Why did you do that today?" Ye Shikai’s tone was icy. He didn’t want to get mad, he just wanted an explanation—why did Chen Yuxin do that, what was her motive.

"Today... what did I even do?" Chen Yuxin pretended to be confused and leaned in lightly.

"You knew perfectly well it was a negotiation with Tianya Group, you knew Qingyu would be there, so why did you still insist on bringing me along?" Ye Shikai questioned.

"You’re a senior manager in the company, shouldn’t you be there?"

"Cut the crap. The General Affairs Department is basically a dogsbody department, it never gets involved in major group affairs. Yet you insisted I go—weren’t you just trying to make me see her?" Ye Shikai sounded a bit agitated. Meeting Su Qingyu wasn’t some earth‑shattering event, but the way Chen Yuxin had acted so intimate with him in front of everyone, that was out of line. Besides, Chen Yuxin normally wasn’t like that, which meant she had deliberately put on that affectionate display in front of Su Qingyu.

"Kai, why are you snapping at me?" Chen Yuxin shot back.

"I’m not snapping at you, but I want to know the reason." Ye Shikai went on, "We’re already married, so why do you still have to do this?"

"What did I do?" Chen Yuxin was getting worked up too and stood up. "You said it yourself, we’re already married, and you and Su Qingyu are already divorced. Since that’s the case, what’s the big deal about the three of us running into each other? How can you get this worked up?"

"You’re... being unreasonable." Ye Shikai waved his hand.

"Kai, are you still hung up on her?" Chen Yuxin asked coldly.

"No." Ye Shikai denied it without hesitation.

"Then why are you so riled up? Is it because you’ve never really let her go in your heart?" The more Chen Yuxin spoke, the more agitated she became. He had wanted to question her, but somehow he ended up being the one interrogated...

"Xin, we even have a child together now. Are you still going to doubt me?"

"Then what does it mean that the moment I walk in the door, you start questioning me?"

"Even if Qingyu and I are divorced, even if I truly don’t have feelings for her anymore, can’t you at least consider her feelings?" Ye Shikai countered. He wasn’t sure whether he had really let go of Su Qingyu in his heart, but at the very least... there was no way he could completely forget her. They had once been husband and wife, after all. He knew very well that in Su Qingyu’s heart, there had always been a place for him—she just never said it out loud.

"Why should I consider her feelings? She’s just the president of some small company."

"Enough." Ye Shikai snapped, raising his voice, and Chen Yuxin fell silent at once.

"What exactly are you trying to do?" Ye Shikai said coldly. "Does Qingyu’s suffering make you happy or something?"

Chen Yuxin said nothing, and Ye Shikai didn’t press her. The two of them just sat there in silence, not speaking to each other. It’s best not to argue when you’re furious—once your brain overheats, things can easily get worse.

Half an hour later.

"I don’t want to fight with you. Let’s just drop what happened today. But Xin, if you’re going to keep putting on this intimate act in front of Qingyu, don’t do it anymore. It’s pointless. I also don’t want... If you really think I still have her in my heart, that I even still have feelings for her, then I have nothing more to say. Do whatever you want." Ye Shikai suddenly said, then walked out of the room. Chen Yuxin didn’t go after him; she needed some time alone to cool down as well.

Dark Night Bar.

"The dignified son‑in‑law of Chen Family, Mr. Ye himself, coming to my place in the middle of the night to drink away his sorrows—now that’s rare." Luo Shiqi sat across from Ye Shikai in a VIP booth at Dark Night Bar. The atmosphere felt unusually "still", starkly different from the noisy chaos outside. The two people in the booth were both lost in their own thoughts.

Luo Shiqi didn’t know the details, but just from the situation she could guess the gist of it—it had to be another fight with Chen Yuxin, and a big one at that.

"Tell me, if Miss Chen finds out you came here to drink, will she bring people over tomorrow to tear my bar down?" Luo Shiqi teased.

"Can you talk less?" Ye Shikai shot her a sideways glare.

"I’d love to talk less. But you show up in the dead of night, don’t say a word, order a whole table full of drinks and just start downing them. I at least need to know what happened, don’t I?"

"I’m just here to drink. Nothing else." Ye Shikai asked curiously, "It’s so late, why aren’t you at home in bed? What are you doing at the bar yourself?"

"Because of you, obviously. The moment you walked in, my staff reported it to me. So... I came to drink with you." Luo Shiqi poured herself a glass of beer and drained it in one gulp.

"Come on, you must have fought with Miss Chen again. What exactly happened? Last I remember, you two were still stuck together like glue not long ago." Luo Shiqi asked, intrigued. Ye Shikai recounted the whole thing. It wasn’t even that big of a deal, really, yet the two of them had had a huge blowout. Ye Shikai couldn’t figure out why. This was just the fuse—but... since when had he and Chen Yuxin started having this kind of rift?

Ye Shikai had thought he knew Chen Yuxin pretty well. At least after they had their child, Chen Yuxin had always seemed gentle. He’d thought she had become a qualified mother and a qualified wife. But what happened today completely shattered that belief, ruthlessly punctured his illusion. It felt like he’d never really seen through Chen Yuxin at all...

"Alright, don’t overthink it." Luo Shiqi felt she’d basically pieced together the story. Chen Yuxin had always been an extreme person, prone to doing unpredictable things. Ye Shikai hadn’t expected something like this tonight. Luo Shiqi didn’t like her, but she still tried to comfort Ye Shikai.

"You should go back and talk to her properly. You two even have a child now; you really shouldn’t keep fighting like this. It doesn’t do anyone any good, does it?" Luo Shiqi advised.

"You’re right." Ye Shikai nodded. He knew people always say you should reconcile married couples rather than push them apart, but he honestly didn’t know how to face Chen Yuxin anymore. Now that they had a child, he couldn’t just storm out and ’run away from home’ like before.

"By the way, you should give Qingyu a call tomorrow. Since she felt embarrassed during the negotiation today, you really ought to explain things to her." Luo Shiqi said.

"Of course. I’ll explain it to her." Ye Shikai nodded in agreement.
