Ye Shikai, Ji Qian, and Ghost investigate the Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect. They learn it originates from Jiangnan's deep mountains and decide to travel there. To avoid arousing Chen Yuxin's suspicion, Ye Shikai lies and tells her they are visiting her grandfather, Chen Yaogzu, in Jiangnan. They travel to the mountains, with Ji Qian and Ghost secretly following to investigate the insect.

After dinner, Chen Yaogzu and Chen Yuxin went into the cave, seemingly to discuss family matters, so Ye Shikai withdrew. His purpose here was to investigate the Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect deep in the mountains. Now that no one was around, he could go and meet up with Ji Qian and the others.

Although he needed to avoid Chen Yuxin, he couldn’t just leave without a word, or she would worry. So Ye Shikai specifically wrote a note and placed it on the table outside. This way, even if Chen Yuxin noticed Ye Shikai’s departure, she wouldn’t be so anxious as to search the mountain. As for the reason for leaving, Ye Shikai simply said he was taking a stroll in the mountain.

With the memory of entering the mountain just moments ago, Ye Shikai quickly retraced his steps out. The mountain was large, and not the entire mountain range was covered by Chen Yaogzu’s Array, only the mountain where he cultivated. So once out, things were normal.

Ye Shikai arrived at the place agreed upon with Ji Qian. Ghost and the Hidden Guard were already waiting there.

"Sorry, I’m late," Ye Shikai said repeatedly.

"No problem, we’re still in time," Ji Qian said calmly.

"What should we do now? The Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect isn’t all over the mountain, is it? We can’t just look for a needle in a haystack, can we?" Ye Shikai curiously asked.

"No need to rush. Look who’s here." Ji Qian suddenly pointed to a Hidden Guard nearby, whose figure seemed small, like a woman. In the faint moonlight, Ye Shikai finally saw clearly.

"Wuyan, why are you here... how did you get here?" Ye Shikai was shocked. Wuyan had returned directly to the Worm Sect, so how could she suddenly be here, and wearing a Hidden Guard’s uniform no less?

"What’s the matter? Can’t I be here, or... don’t you welcome me?"

"No, no, I certainly hope you’d be here." Ye Shikai was very pleasantly surprised. With Wuyan here, finding the Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect would be much easier. "But I’m really curious why you’re wearing a Hidden Guard’s outfit."

"I had her do it," Ji Qian explained. "To avoid drawing attention. Wuyan, after all, is the Sect Leader of the Worm Sect; if someone noticed her presence, it might cause a series of unnecessary troubles, so I had her disguise as a Hidden Guard."

"If I hadn’t come, just with you few people, you wouldn’t find the Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect even if you turned over the entire mountain," Wuyan said with a cold smirk.

"Alright, alright, Wuyan, I owe you another favor this time," Ye Shikai said with a bitter smile, realizing he seemed all-powerful, yet appeared rather helpless, merely having others coincidentally helping him each time. Some came directly, others helped silently...

"You owe me many favors, even... your little life is something I gave you," Wuyan said, lightly tapping his chest with her finger, leaving Ji Qian puzzled. She didn’t quite understand, mainly because Ye Shikai had never mentioned the Lifebound Gu to anyone.

"Alright, time is short. The Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect only moves at night. If we wait until dawn, we won’t find it. Let’s hurry," Wuyan said calmly. Since it was about finding the Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect, it was naturally up to her, the "professional." Everyone naturally followed her.

"The deep mountain is dense with branches and leaves; can we really find it?" Ghost asked curiously.

"The Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect only moves at night. In fact, this type of worm has become quite rare now. Even in Jiangnan’s deep mountains, it might not be found," Wuyan said calmly.

"So we can only rely on luck?" Ye Shikai felt a bit disappointed upon hearing this, but it was an objective fact; complaints were useless. He could only hope his luck would be better.

"Not necessarily. With enough understanding of the Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect, many detours can be avoided, and the possibility of finding it would be much higher." Wuyan waved her hand and suddenly stopped walking.

"What’s wrong, why did you stop?" Ye Shikai curiously asked.

"Do you see what that is?" Wuyan pointed ahead. Ye Shikai lit it with a flashlight. It was a cave, not too big nor too small, just enough for two people to walk side by side, with a height of about three meters.

"What do you mean?"

"The Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect mostly lives in mountain caves. Finding the cave is the first success," Wuyan said as she walked toward the cave, and everyone quickly followed.

"I’ll take the lead. You all follow behind, two by two, spaced apart, and leave some behind to guard the cave entrance. I can’t guarantee there won’t be any danger inside, so it’s better to be cautious," Wuyan said calmly.

"Alright, I’ll follow you." Ye Shikai entered the cave second. If the cave really had the Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect, it was indeed quite dangerous; any carelessness might get them caught. Among those present, only he and Wuyan had the Lifebound Gu to protect them, so naturally, they went first.

"Qian, Ghost, be careful, don’t let anything happen," Ye Shikai reminded.

"Rest assured."

Everyone slowly entered the cave. Wuyan seemed like a "night vision person." Though a cultivator’s night vision was better than an ordinary person’s, to be like her in such pitch-darkness without any light source yet walk as if on flat ground was indeed unusual, as if she came with a night vision function...

"The Heart Devouring Poisonous Insect loves water. Check carefully to see if there’s any water source nearby."

"How could there be a water source in a cave?" Ye Shikai murmured. Suddenly, a sound came from the cave, making everyone instinctively alert.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.

A group of bats flew out from inside, and everyone let out a long breath.

It was just a group of bats...

"Alright, let’s keep moving."

Ten minutes later.

Thud.

"Stop," Ye Shikai suddenly said. "Did you hear something?"

"I did," Ji Qian softly replied, as a tremor sounded in the cave, making everyone stop. It was so quiet they could hear each other’s breathing.

Thud.

"What the hell is it?" Ye Shikai felt a surge of panic; this was a sign of impending crisis...

Bang.

Suddenly, the ground beneath Ye Shikai and Wuyan collapsed instantly, wide enough for ten meters. With no defense, both fell directly...

"Boss!"

"Wuyan!"

Ji Qian and Ghost rushed forward, but there was a distance between everyone, and the event was so sudden they were defenseless, having no choice but to watch Ye Shikai and Wuyan fall into the abyss...

Ji Qian was in a panic, lighting down with a flashlight, but it was so deep it was unpredictable.

"Quick, bring the ropes," Ghost immediately ordered.
