The Bodyguard King’s CEO Wife Chapter 1491: The Wedding

As they spoke, the Three Elders unexpectedly shed tears, their legs trembled, and they slowly knelt down...
"Three Elders, what are you doing?" Ye Shikai hurriedly dismounted, helping the old man up.
"General Ye, if it weren’t for your generous help, the village would have had no reserves. If a drought hit, I’m afraid... we would all starve to death. General Ye, please accept my bow," said the Three Elders while sobbing as he knelt on the ground again. Ye Shikai pulled him up once more.
"Three Elders, today is my joyous day; if you continue, you’ll spoil the joy."
"General Ye’s benevolence and virtue will never be forgotten by me and all the villagers of Shangshui Village."
"Regardless, Ling’er is from Shangshui Village. Since I’m marrying her, I can’t just stand by and watch her family starve," Ye Shikai explained. After the Three Elders calmed down, he mounted his horse again.
"General Ye, you are truly the savior of Shangshui Village."
Ye Shikai needed to go and fetch He Linghan, and it wasn’t convenient to linger with the Three Elders, so he entrusted him with welcoming the villagers arriving at his home.
"General, may we set off now?" the leader of the music band inquired from behind.
"Let’s go."
"Off we go, make way for the festive music..."
Soon, they arrived at He Linghan’s home. As the bride, her entrance was surrounded by many people who quickly cleared a path upon seeing the wedding procession approaching.
"Louder with the music."
"Got it." The leader instructed the musicians to blow with all their might. Shortly after, He Linghan emerged from the house, clad in a red wedding dress, with a red veil. This wedding dress was stitched by the finest tailor in the county, courtesy of Ye Shikai, looking quite exquisite, as He Linghan might be a village girl, but marrying a dignified General, she couldn’t bear to appear shabby.
With the help of several village girls, He Linghan got on the flower palanquin at the back, while Master He stood by, his expression appearing conflicted. On the day of his granddaughter’s marriage, he, the grandfather, being her only family, couldn’t help but feel sad, but seeing the groom being Ye Shikai was perhaps the best outcome.
"General Ye, please take good care of Ling’er from now on," Master He approached Ye Shikai, his words trembling.
"Master He, rest assured, as long as I am here, Ling’er will not suffer any harm," Ye Shikai assured firmly. In Yanjing, he had failed to protect Su Qingyu, or rather, had not brought her the happiness she desired. Now, perhaps fate bestowed him an opportunity to amend this regret for He Linghan.
"Hmm, I trust you. I am now old and unable to guard her; handing her over to you, I feel at ease."
Master He slowly walked to the flower palanquin, gave a few words of advice, and then returned to the house, closing the door tightly...
"Alright, let’s move," Ye Shikai, though unable to fully comprehend his emotions then, understood he needed a private space to be alone.
"Lift the palanquin."

At home.
The servants laid freshly cooked meat dishes on the table. Most villagers are rough folks, so Ye Shikai specifically instructed the kitchen to ensure ample supply; the meat dishes served were large chunks, allowing the villagers to eat heartily.
The time arrived earlier than Ye Shikai expected. According to the Three Elders, it wasn’t yet the auspicious time for the wedding ceremony, so Ye Shikai entertained guests with a few drinks first.
"Today is General Ye’s wedding; congratulations, congratulations."
"Hu’er, look, this is General Ye whom you kept wanting to see." Ye Shikai noticed a woman in the crowd with a child, curiously approaching.
"Child, why do you want to see me?" Ye Shikai bent down to inquire.
"I wanted to see what the heroic general who fought against the Wolf Clan looks like." Though young, the child’s eyes appeared bright.
"General Ye, please forgive us, the child kept clamoring to see you and said he wants to grow up to be like you, becoming a general to protect the people," the woman explained to Ye Shikai as she pulled the child back.
"Great aspiration, you’ll surely become a good general in the future." Ye Shikai gently patted the child’s head to encourage him, then drew the short knife from his waist and handed it to the child.
"This is for you. Use it in the future to protect your mother and the people of Shangshui Village. Do you have the courage?"
"Of course," declared the child, taking the short knife, his tone firm, mimicking adult gestures to thank Ye Shikai.
"Forgive us for the child’s behavior."
"This lady, believe that this child will certainly become a general," Ye Shikai told the woman.
"Then thank you, General, for your kind words."
"Villagers, eat and drink well, leave not sober," Ye Shikai raised his cup, shouting loudly.
"Congratulations, General."
"Congratulations, General."
Suddenly, from outside came the sound of urgent hooves. Though Ye Shikai had drunk quite a bit, he wasn’t drunk and remained clear-headed; it was the sound of warhorses’ hooves. The frequency was so fast, indicating an emergency. Ye Shikai casually made an excuse to fend everyone off, seizing a moment to leave the yard unnoticed.
"Master, are you alright?" The visitor was Man Cang, accompanied by several guards. Seeing that Ye Shikai had drunk, Man Cang hastily dismounted to assist him.
"Don’t worry, I am not drunk," Ye Shikai placed his cup aside and calmly said, "What exactly happened for you to be in such a hurry?"
"Master, ten miles outside the village, in the forest, numerous armed robbers have been sighted assembling there, seemingly waiting for something. I suspect they are planning to invade the village, so I dared not slack and rushed to report," Man Cang, anxious, reported, intensifying Ye Shikai’s realization, making him instantly alert.
"How many?"
"No fewer than five hundred, and they are still gathering, so the number will likely increase," Man Cang answered. Ye Shikai immediately understood; it seemed these robbers indeed had no intention of letting him have a peaceful wedding. Since Ye Shikai didn’t send them invitations, they intended to intrude to have a sip of wedding wine.
"Master, I’m not afraid of losing the fight, but today is your happy day; I fear they might disturb so many guests, especially with Miss He inside. If she’s frightened, it would be disastrous."
"Man Cang, assemble all guards, secure the village entrance, and also send someone to notify the garrison to return to defend the village," Ye Shikai commanded.
"I’ve already sent people to handle it."
"Seems today I must first pacify these people before properly proceeding with the ceremony," Ye Shikai chuckled wryly, caressing the sword at his waist. "You wait outside; I have some words to say inside."
