The Bodyguard King’s CEO Wife Chapter 1145: Escaping Unscathed

~5 minute read · 1,209 words

"Mr. Zheng, you flatter me." The leader of the White Mist Army, holding a staff, slowly removed his hood. It was Chen Ligong. As the commander of the White Mist Army, he was loyal to the Ji Family. Initially, he was reluctant to follow Zheng Ji’s arrangements, but now it seemed he had underestimated this young man in front of him.

"Mr. Zheng’s foresight is astonishing. He predicted the exact location of the incident without the slightest error."

"Mr. Chen, with your wholehearted assistance and dedication, it’s I who should thank you." Zheng Ji replied, finally relieved. The Ji Family had not been double-dealing, and with Chen Ligong leading the White Mist Army in person, he genuinely felt secure. Several minutes later, gunfire behind them completely ceased. The White Mist Army was swift and elusive, quickly dealing with the attackers, though to Zheng Ji’s disappointment, the attackers didn’t seem to be cultivators. Apart from their fierce firepower, they had no special skills. If this was truly the case, it meant those "opposition forces" hadn’t directly participated in the assassination but had hired an assassin team instead. This meant he couldn’t find direct evidence to topple them.

Several minutes later, a few of Zheng Ji’s guards dragged over an attacker.

"Young master, all those people have been dealt with. We captured a talker." One of the guards threw the man to the ground. Upon a closer look, Zheng Ji saw his face was bruised, eyes swollen, and his body a mess, appearing half-dead.

"Take him back to the Zheng Family for careful interrogation," Zheng Ji said coldly.

"Yes."

"Clean up the scene," Chen Ligong ordered the members of the White Mist Army around him.

"Yes, Commander." Immediately, over a dozen White Mist Army members rushed out. This was the Ji Family’s territory. Cleaning up the scene would take no more than twenty minutes. Given that there weren’t many vehicles passing through here, Zheng Ji had deduced the attack would happen here. If they had succeeded, news of Zheng Ji’s death on the Ji Family’s turf would spread, and everyone would point fingers at the Ji Family. This was why the Ji Family was so eager to help; Ji Tao would never take the fall for this. Tonight’s security around Zheng Ji was likely even more comprehensive and thorough than that for Ji Tao.

"Mr. Zheng, I’ll escort you to the airport; a private plane is ready," Chen Ligong said calmly, glancing at the nearly beaten to death gunman.

"Mr. Chen, if you wanted to kill me, where would be the most likely place for an ambush?" Zheng Ji suddenly smiled. Chen Ligong was first taken aback, then suddenly understood. If Zheng Ji were to leave Yanjing, the mastermind behind the scenes would naturally believe he would choose to leave by plane, making the airport a necessary passage. Therefore, they would definitely set up an ambush at the airport, waiting for Zheng Ji and his men to walk right into it.

"I’ve already prepared a boat at the port. Please, Elder Chen, escort us to the port," Zheng Ji said with a faint smile.

"Of course, the car is already ready." Chen Ligong was momentarily shocked at how thoughtful Zheng Ji’s plans were. However, these were not concerns for him. Since Ji Tao had given the order for Zheng Ji to return safely to the East Sea, he would accomplish his mission no matter what. As for how Zheng Ji left Yanjing, that was his choice.

"Thank you." Zheng Ji nodded, instructing his guards to also take the captured talker. Perhaps they could extract some information from him.

Northeast, Bai Mountain.

"Master, look there." Selena pointed into the distance. Though it was already night, Ji Qian couldn’t tell if the snow had melted; however, precisely because it was night, through the binoculars, Ji Qian saw twinkling lights. This indicated that people were gathered there, suggesting they were close to the exit of Bai Mountain.

The group walked along the ridge. Because night had fallen, they proceeded with extreme caution, fearing a fall off the cliff would mean certain death.

"Excellent, Soul Destroyer, we’re almost out. Soon, we can help you detoxify." The most excited person was the Demoness. She wanted to get out more than anyone, of course, to find someone to help detoxify Soul Destroyer.

"Soul Destroyer, can you still hold on?" Ji Qian stepped forward, using the energy from her magic wand to remove some of the toxic blood from Soul Destroyer, slowing the poison’s spread.

"Don’t worry, I won’t die just yet." Soul Destroyer mustered his strength, but his face appeared pale, and he was very weak.

"We can get out soon; hang in there."

"Miss Ji, I didn’t expect you’d actually dare to come up here." Suddenly, a cold and angry voice rang out before them. Looking up, it was the black-clad woman again.

"Damn, who are you? You’re like a piece of chewing gum that we can’t shake off." The Demoness cursed directly, and everyone’s hearts plummeted. This was the mountain’s summit. Unless they jumped off, there was no possibility of escape, but it was several thousand meters high, and jumping would surely mean getting smashed to pieces.

"I made a mistake before, allowing you to escape. However, this time, you won’t be so lucky." The black-clad woman said coldly. Ji Qian glanced back, not having expected these people could find them so quickly and even ambush them on the ridge.

"Quick, run!" Ji Qian quickly said, taking advantage of the moment before they were surrounded, possibly finding a way out.

"Don’t even think about it." The black-clad woman barked, and gunshots immediately followed. A Moon Guard was shot down. The area was completely ambushed, with gunmen lurking all around.

Even the usually composed Ji Qian was now at a loss. They only had two parachutes. Even with two people carrying another, only four lives could be saved, and the terrain below was unknown. Blindly jumping could lead to certain death. Besides, even if Ji Qian and the Demoness could make it, what would happen to poison-afflicted Soul Destroyer?

"Wait, your target is me. I’ll go with you if you let my men go." Ji Qian tried a final negotiation. She knew the black-clad woman had always wanted to kill her, and since the woman was from Huaxia, it implied they weren’t here for the Netherworld Palace.

"Is Miss Ji trying to save them?" The black-clad woman sneered coldly. "Negotiation requires leverage. Do you have any bargaining chips now?"

"Of course, I do. If you refuse to negotiate, we’ll go down together." Ji Qian showed no fear, directly retorting, "If I go all out, it’ll be enough to drag you down, making you our companions in death." Ji Qian gathered energy onto her magic wand. The ridge was high, and with her full strength, she could even trigger an avalanche. If an avalanche occurred on the ridge, none of the people present would escape alive.
