The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World Chapter 689- Capital Of The Ancient Kingdom & Clues About The Seven Gods
Previously on The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World...
Seeing that this was the chance to curb the influence of the Empire and bring down the power and authority of the Seven Gods, they attacked.
In the later pages, Elfenheim, Mount Cragdor, Duskrun Expanse, and several other demi human nations from rival states had become belligerents.
What had started as a foreign invasion quickly became something far larger. A continent wide war.
And so, from every direction, human territories burned. Faced with annihilation from all sides, the Empire called upon every allied kingdom and human nation. Together they formed a united front.
This was the beginning of the First Epoch War. A war between humans, demi humans, and dragons.
The diary did not describe the war in detail, only that it would go on for a very long time.
The tone of the diary became hollow as years passed, until the writing stopped altogether. Reinhardt slowly closed the diary.
.
For a moment, neither Reinhardt nor Erza spoke. The information contained in this diary was too much to digest at once. They both needed time to reflect on it.
After a while, Erza broke the silence first. "So... this world once had a war like that?"
Reinhardt didn’t respond immediately. He stared at the diary in his hand. The Empire, the Draconic Continent, dragons, the Epoch War... There was a lot to process.
Beside him, Erza’s eyes were equally grave. They had thought that the catastrophic war humanity faced was against the demons.
However, who knew that before the advent of the demons, there had been another catastrophic war, one that engulfed the entire continent of Valdonia.
If the contents of the diary were to be believed, then it was understandable why humanity stood still while the demi human nations were attacked by the demons.
Although there was no mention of the demons in the diary, it could be guessed that the period 4721 and beyond was an era before the demons. A timeline where the Seven Gods held the most authority, also known as the Era of the Seven Gods.
"Do you think dragons and the Draconic Continent exist?" Erza questioned.
"There is a possibility... but personally, I think it is true," Reinhardt replied.
The contents of the diary aside, he personally wanted to see dragons. It was selfish thinking. After all, he had reincarnated in this world, and it would be disappointing not to see those mythical creatures he had fantasized about.
Just thinking about them filled him with excitement.
"The diary had no mention of the demons. How do you think they appeared?" Erza thought for a moment before asking again.
"We can only find that out after we explore all of Elarion."
There were multiple suspicious points in the diary. And since the writer did not hold a prominent position in the ancient kingdom, much of the knowledge and information he recorded could be biased or false.
They could not believe the diary completely.
Erza nodded, seemingly coming to the same conclusion.
"The First, Second, and Fourth Divisions are fervently exploring the ruins. I am sure we will hear about progress soon." Reinhardt nodded, then thought of something and asked, "What about the Third Division? Have they reported any movement from the enemy yet?"
"Not so far," Erza answered. "Do you think the demons will attack us when most of the Dawnbringer’s manpower is concentrated here?"
"It is precisely why they will attack."
Reinhardt’s eyes flashed with golden light. He had already received warnings from his [Celestial Harmony] before the Dawnbringers entered the ruins of the Ancient Kingdom.
A fight was inevitable. Since that was the case, he wanted everyone to be ready.
"Demons have been suppressing humanity for over a thousand years. Most of the clues or records from ancient times have been destroyed or taken away by them. Why do you think that is so?"
Erza tucked a bang of hair behind her ear and answered, "Because they don’t want humans to know about the history and the truth?"
"That’s right. They are afraid of the history and the truth being known again. I don’t know why. But perhaps this will also lead us to their weakness."
Knock... knock...
At this moment, hurried knocks came from his door.
"Come in."
The door to Reinhardt’s office was opened and a knight walked in. He hurriedly saluted Reinhardt and Erza before stating his business.
"Sir Divine Paladin, urgent report."
"What happened?"
The knight inhaled slightly before speaking. "A team from the Fourth Division discovered a hidden route within the ruins. Based on the structure and layout... there is a high probability it leads directly toward the capital of the Ancient Kingdom."
The moment those words fell, Reinhardt and Erza’s eyes sharpened simultaneously.
"The capital, huh," Erza muttered.
If the previous places they explored were merely outskirts, then the capital of Elarion might contain the true secrets of that ancient era.
"Which team found it?"
"Team Seven, sir."
Hearing that, Reinhardt raised an eyebrow slightly before chuckling. "Hoh... Silvia’s team, huh. Those brats did a good job."
.
Deep within the ruins, dust clouds filled the air. Massive chunks of collapsed metallic debris littered the corridor while dozens of knights worked together to clear a path.
"Haah..." Carrying a big chunk of rock on his shoulder, Kevin roared fiercely and placed the object on a pile of debris.
"Haah... seriously, why did this place have to collapse?" he grumbled while wiping sweat from his forehead. Nearby, the others too were toiling away to clear a path.
"Maybe the ruins simply dislike you."
"What does that even mean?!"
Vangeance snorted while lifting a massive broken pillar onto his shoulder. "It means your face looks unlucky."
"Senior Vangeance, your face looks more unlucky than mine!"
"Bastard, want to fight?"
"Enough. If you two have energy to bicker, then haul more stones on your backs." Silvia’s cold voice instantly suppressed the two.
"So... do you think this really leads to the capital?" Kevin questioned.
"We can only know after exploring it," Silvia replied, glancing at the partially visible dark tunnel. "This route was hidden beneath three layers of collapsed structures and other barriers. It is too concealed to be an ordinary passage."
"Doesn’t this feel... creepy?" Gwen added.
"It’s an ancient ruin buried for thousands of years," Delicia replied calmly. "Of course it’s creepy."
Just then, the atmosphere changed. From different areas, powerful presences slowly converged toward this region.
Numerous Elite and Extreme Knights, leading their squadrons, assembled in the area.
Kevin and the others instinctively turned around. And there they saw them.
Reinhardt, Erza, Vanessa, Brutus, Sigurd, Mordred, and many more heroes arriving at the place.
With so many heroes crowding the place, the atmosphere was bound to change. Even the surrounding mana seemed to tremble under the sheer concentration of power.
Kevin gulped subconsciously. "Why does it suddenly feel hard to breathe?"
Even Silvia’s expression became serious. Seeing so many heroes gathered together at once, one could imagine the pressure knights like them felt.
Of course, this kind of pressure was not something the heroes were exerting consciously; it was something born from their natural immense power.
It took some time, but the other knights slowly got used to the behemoth-like presence of the heroes.
Meanwhile, the heroes were inspecting the revealed route. "The other paths were dead ends or led to insignificant places."
"Same. I was wondering if we made some mistake somewhere. Thankfully, a new path was discovered."
"Given how big the path is and the stones used to build the surrounding, I’m pretty sure we found the right path this time."
"Well, I’m more amazed someone was able to find this place, given that everything has collapsed around here."
At the back, Vangeance leaned toward Kevin and whispered quietly. "Aren’t you feeling proud?"
"Huh?"
"If not for you getting lost and accidentally stumbling upon this place, nobody might have found it."
Hearing this, Kevin’s face turned red, and he immediately protested. "I-I wasn’t lost. I was just exploring a new portion of the ruins."
"You were definitely lost," Gwen replied mercilessly.
Meanwhile, Reinhardt shared the information they had uncovered so far with the other heroes and knights.
"This ancient kingdom was once called Elarion. And the records date back to approximately Year 4721 of the Imperial Calendar."
He told them about how Elarion was one of the great nations of the era. However, it was not the superpower. That title belonged to the Empire.
He also told them what he had learned about the Arcanists and them being the executioners of the Seven Gods. The events that followed next.
Of course, he did not state things that he had no solid evidence of, like the war between humans and demi-humans.
This was no longer the Ancient Era. If he mentioned such sensitive topics carelessly, it might cause outrage and further widen the gap between the humans and demi humans that was slowly bridging thanks to all of his efforts.
"There really is another continent other than Valdonia?"
