Leona and the knights battled monstrous chimeras originating from the labyrinth. She easily defeated the initial waves with her powerful attacks, but discovered the creatures possessed demonic energy and unnatural regeneration. While regrouping, Leona led the knights to rescue another group under heavy assault. Meanwhile, deep within the labyrinth, researchers monitored the knights while continuing experiments, creating more potent chimera subjects. As the knights advanced, the researchers prepared to release failed subjects, including three exceptionally powerful ones, to gather data.

Nobody questioned the order. They all understood. Those three monsters could not be controlled. The slightest mistake would result in slaughter.

After sending a team to release the three, the lead researcher pointed toward another group.

"You. I want you all to record everything. Their combat data, abilities, adaptability, everything."

Everyone nodded and got busy completing their tasks.

Standing there, the leader had a fanatical light in his eyes as he gazed at the third batch of subjects pouring towards the knights.

For decades, they had been mocked, hunted, condemned, and called madmen and heretics. But now, the results stood before everyone.

"Hahahaha... Hahahahaha!" He broke into maniacal laughter. "It is time to show the world our results. Let every human in the world witness it. Let them see what true evolution looks like."

The cryogenic chambers began glowing. Warning alarms started blaring. Frozen vapor spilled onto the floor. One chamber. Then another. Then the third.

"The Organization has succeeded."

CRACK... Cracks spread across the glass chamber, and three silhouettes stepped out.

.

The Sixth Division had finally regrouped. After fighting through the second batch of experimental monsters and overcoming countless traps scattered throughout the labyrinth, the scattered knight groups had successfully reunited with the main force.

Against the might of the Sixth Division, the second batch of monsters was no match. Having finished off a large number of chimeras, the knights were catching their breath.

However, it didn’t seem like the labyrinth had any plans to let them rest.

More monsters appeared from every direction. One of the Level 7 knights from a minor kingdom, who got a little too arrogant after his continuous victories, charged into the incoming fray.

BOOM...

It all happened too fast. The knight who attacked the oncoming horde was sent flying, his body crashing into a pillar and embedding it there.

As for the enemy, it slowly retracted its hands and glared at the formation of knights with piercing, frenzied eyes.

At that moment, the atmosphere changed.

"What the... It sent Oliver flying."

The monster responsible did not pursue. Instead, it suddenly vanished.

The next instant, it reappeared behind another knight hundreds of meters away.

"Behind you!"

CLANG... Steel collided with claws. The knight barely managed to raise his weapon in time before being blasted backward.

"What kind of speed is that?!"

The expressions of the surrounding knights changed. Many knights who had underestimated the enemy suffered setbacks.

It appeared that these new enemies were completely different. If the previous monstrosities relied on brute force, numbers, and savage instincts, then their new enemy fought intelligently.

Then there were their abilities, far more developed and powerful than the previous monstrosities.

Some manipulated shadows. Others controlled wind, and several launched concentrated beams. Looking at how some of the enemies split themselves into clones or regenerated even from near fatal wounds, even the Elite Level 8 knights were shaken.

With the arrival of this new batch of enemies, the battlefield instantly became chaotic.

"Maintain formation!"

"Don’t get separated!"

The commanders shouted orders while stabilizing the frontline.

The pressure was immense; even the Extreme Knights had to step out. The new enemies possessed intellect and abilities far beyond those of the ones they had fought a couple of minutes ago.

The difference was not just a matter of strength; it was qualitative, as if they were fighting enemies who had crossed into an entirely different category of existence.

BANG...

A thunderous explosion erupted nearby. Gareth swung his greatsword casually.

The impact blasted a winged monstrosity through several walls before crashing into the distance in several pieces. Yet moments later, it slowly climbed back up after putting its body together.

What absurd regeneration. Seeing this, Gareth frowned.

"Have you noticed?" Orion walked over. "The demonic energy inside these things is too dense. Even mid-ranking demons generally do not have this much."

He spoke, the long sword in his hand faintly coated with mana. The next second, a crescent blade of mana split a charging monster in half.

The next moment, dense demonic energy surged out from the body of the creature. Black tendrils shot out and attempted to reconnect the separated body.

Even after taking an attack from a hero, even one that was just casual, it managed to regenerate. This showed how troublesome the new enemies were.

Gareth clicked his tongue. "I noticed, it’s abnormal. Their regeneration is on par with high-ranking demons, and they possess many unique abilities of wild monsters."

At that moment, a silver beam shot up from the ground.

BOOM... A monster hidden among the ceiling stalactites exploded into fragments. Leona, bathed in starlight, landed gracefully nearby.

The two heroes glanced at her and couldn’t help but acknowledge her power.

"So you’re Leona Marcella Valkyrie, the Commander of the Knights of Lunar Veil. I’ve heard quite a bit about you." Gareth spoke with a smile.

Orion added, "Your strength lives up to your title as one of the Seven Great Knights of Solaris."

"I am honored that Drakmore’s Iron Bastion, Gareth Dreadmane, and Paradoxis’s Storm Lancer, Orion Valebreak, remember my name." Leona greeted, her tone neither overly humble nor particularly friendly.

Her eyes remained fixed on the battlefield, on the creatures, more specifically on the strange markings spread across their bodies.

"Those markings." She narrowed her eyes.

Jet black in color, these markings crawled across the skin of the enemy. Like veins, they pulsed with energy.

"They resemble something I know."

The heroes looked at the monstrosities exchanging blows with the knights. Now that she mentioned it, indeed the markings looked familiar. The resemblance became obvious.

Every nation, major or small, had suffered at the hands of those lunatics. Their objective was unknown, but behind every destruction they left behind were these markings.

Leona continued. "I believe those markings are their source of power. The majority of the demonic energy is being circulated through them."

Doubt and realization flashed across Gareth and Orion’s faces.

"Now that you mention it... it really does look similar."

"Oi... oi... You can’t be serious." Oliver scratched his head. "If it’s really them, then it’s a big problem. Weren’t those bastards wiped out years ago?"

Leona recalled what she knew about the events from Reinhardt, the man who had personally participated in the mission to wipe out that bunch of heretics.

"As far as I know, they suffered a devastating defeat. But they were never completely exterminated."

Hearing her statement, the heroes fell silent. Amidst the sounds of battle, an unpleasant possibility surfaced within their minds.

Gareth spoke with a grim face, crushing an enemy’s head with the pure brute strength of his hand. Like a watermelon, it burst apart.

"If that’s true... then there is a ninety percent chance this is the work of the Organization."

The implication was too dire. A group of heretics devoted to human evolution. The group had no name; it simply went by the name the Organization.

It was infamous across the continent. Even among the many evils plaguing Valdonia, they occupied a special place. Human experimentation, abduction, forbidden research, terrorism... they had a hand in all kinds of atrocities.

It was for a reason that the Organization and its leader, Dr. Victor Voss, became the most wanted criminal in the world.

However, unlike the demonkind set on eradicating all life, the members of the Organization were human. Why would they appear now?

Orion looked at the monstrosities who resembled a product of some mad research and couldn’t help but complain.

"Why now? Why reveal themselves at this timing? The Dawnbringers have launched their campaign not long ago. The entire attention of humanity is focused on the Tainted Lands. What exactly are they trying to accomplish?"

Orion’s question lingered heavily in the air.

Leona’s expression gradually darkened. A disturbing thought surfaced in her mind.

Could the Organization have completely thrown their lot in with the demons? The possibility was horrifying. Yet the more she thought about it, the more reasonable it seemed.

The sudden appearance of the labyrinth, the carefully prepared trap, the communication jamming, the experimental subjects, and the timing. It all pointed toward that possibility.

An isolated group hiding from humanity like the Organization could not have accomplished this alone. Someone had helped them.

And within the Tainted Lands, only one answer made sense. The demons.

Leona tightened her grip around her sword. The Organization had always been dangerous. But if they truly joined hands with demonkind, the threat they represented would increase tenfold. No, perhaps even more.

What unsettled her even more was not the ambush or the experimental monstrosities; it was the progress itself.

To conduct so many experiments, a facility of immense scale would be required. Then there were other requirements like materials and resources.

To have conducted so many experiments without humanity even knowing, someone must have been sheltering and funding them.

The implications were enough to make Leona’s scalp tingle. The two heroes were no fools; they must have arrived at their own conclusion. Their faces showed the severity of the situation.

It was then, the atmosphere in the chamber shifted.
