The allied leaders convened to strategize, but their efforts were hampered by devastating news from the western front. The defense line had collapsed, and an alarming number of Titan Class Malice Engines were advancing. Despite the grim outlook and the battlefield's silence, the leaders, including Thane Ironmantle and Skadi Winter, prepared to face the colossal machines head-on to protect Draconia.

And so, the monumental battle at Ashen Gate commenced.

Later on, the very ground of this battlefield, along with its surrounding ruins, would be meticulously examined by the inaugural expedition teams. These were the brave souls who ventured forth from the continent of Valdonia, embarking on a journey to a newly discovered land.

However, that particular narrative unfolds in the future.

For the present moment, the esteemed leaders of the allied races are engaged in a desperate struggle, pouring all their might into ensuring the continued survival of their respective peoples.

BOOOOOOM!!

With a mighty heave, Thane Ironmantle struck his hammer upon the earth, and the very ground responded to his command. The battlefield surged upwards. Enormous, jagged rock spikes erupted, hurtling towards the advancing Titan.

"Face me, you infernal contraption of metal!"

Thane bellowed, his beard dramatically flaring as if stirred by an unseen wind. The six-legged Titan fixed its gaze upon him, its crimson eyes burning with intensity. A whirring of gears was heard, and formidable artillery pieces emerged from its metallic spine, crackling with devastating energy.

But before the Titan could unleash its fiery assault, Thane brought his hammer down once more. Deep fissures spread across the ground, swiftly engulfing one of the Titan’s legs.

The earth beneath the colossal machine gave way. This sudden disruption in its balance caused the intended attack to go wildly astray.

Thane seized the moment, launching his next assault without hesitation.

He leaped. A dwarf, soaring like a fiery meteor, descended upon the Titan, his hammer aimed true. The scene was akin to an ant attempting to topple an elephant – both comical and utterly bizarre.

Yet, it was this very spectacle that inflicted the most significant damage upon the Malice Engine.

BANG...

The sheer force of the impact pulverized the incredibly dense and resilient armor plating. This staggering blow caused the Titan to stagger, and the ground itself fractured as far as the eye could see, extending for hundreds of meters.

Gears whirred again, and a barrage of crimson beams erupted, directed at Thane from point-blank range. For any other combatant, such an onslaught would have rendered a timely response impossible.

However, Thane stood as the mightiest warrior of his kin.

In that fleeting fraction of a second, he defended himself with astonishing prowess. Granules of stone coalesced, forming a protective spherical barrier around him. The searing beams relentlessly struck the rocks, melting them into slag. Nevertheless, Thane managed to evade the direct impact just in time.

Then, with a booming laugh, he struck again.

It was a truly peculiar sight: a dwarf engaged in combat, effortlessly manipulating the very earth to his whim.

Elsewhere on the sprawling battlefield, the terrain had already transformed into a sheet of solid ice. Snowflakes descended like a relentless downpour, working to suppress the chaotic surge of demonic energy.

Amidst this frozen landscape, Skadi Winter advanced with deliberate steps towards a Titan-class Malice Engine. With each stride she took, her imposing stature increased, until she towered at an astonishing height of over two hundred feet.

Clad in magnificent, battle-ready armor and wielding a formidable ice axe, she appeared as the very embodiment of a war goddess.

The Ancient Giants, as their name suggested, possessed the innate ability to augment their size, growing ever more powerful and fearsome. Still, in comparison to the colossal Titan-class Malice Engine confronting her, she seemed remarkably diminutive.

"Oh, mighty ancestors of ages past, I implore you, bestow your strength upon your daughter."

Skadi raised her colossal ice axe, offering a silent, potent prayer.

Then, in the very next moment, she charged with unstoppable momentum toward the Titan.

The sight of her hurtling across the frozen expanse toward the mechanical monstrosity was truly awe-inspiring.

The serpentine Titan lunged forward, its segmented blades spinning with dizzying ferocity. The sheer magnitude of its size, combined with the incredible velocity of its rotating blades, caused the very fabric of air and space to distort violently. Anything and everything caught in the path of those spinning blades was utterly annihilated from existence.

Confronted by such devastating power, Skadi did not falter. She swung her mighty axe, and a breathtaking arc of shimmering blue light bloomed in the air.

CRASSHHHH...

A titanic shockwave, powerful enough to level the surrounding mountains, radiated outwards from the point of their violent collision. This was followed by an ear-splitting screech of metal grinding against metal. Brilliant light erupted, and sparks, each as large as a grown human, were flung outwards in every direction.

The unfolding spectacle was truly a breathtaking sight to behold.

Nevertheless, this fierce stalemate was not destined to endure for long.

The Serpentine Titan relentlessly pressed its advance, the crimson lights within its optical sockets intensifying with a malevolent glare. It seemed as though Skadi was beginning to falter in this direct, head-on confrontation.

Indeed, such an assessment would hold true if one were to judge solely by outward appearances. However, those with keen perception could discern that as the Titan relentlessly pushed forward, the rotational speed of its formidable blades was gradually diminishing.

A fine layer of frost began to accumulate along the edges of its blades and around its vital joints, noticeably impeding its once formidable speed.

"Freeze, you blight upon this world!!"

Skadi cried out, and at that precise instant, a brilliant, frosty luminescence erupted from her axe, brilliantly painting the entire surrounding landscape in vivid hues of blue and white.

As the dazzling light slowly subsided, the movements of the Serpentine Titan came to a complete halt. It stood immobilized, encased in ice. Even from a considerable distance, one could clearly observe the colossal serpentine ice sculpture radiating waves of chilling cold energy.

Having successfully incapacitated her adversary, Skadi drew a deep, steadying breath. However, a sense of unease lingered on her face, betraying no sign of relief.

If Titan-Class Malice Engines were so easily subdued, she mused internally, the allied forces would have secured victory in this war long ago.

CRACK...

The eyes of the Malice Engine flared once more, and ominous cracks began to spiderweb across the surface of the impenetrable ice. Just as Skadi had feared, the Serpentine Titan was not completely and irrevocably frozen.

BOOM...

In the very next second, the ice encasing the colossal machine shattered with explosive force, and the Titan was once again free to move.

Whirr...

A distinct mechanical whirring sound emanated from the creature as the serpentine Titan began to reconfigure its form. Of course, it retained its unmistakable serpentine silhouette.

However, black lightning now erupted from its form, and a multitude of blades burst forth from its tail.

The Serpentine Titan swung its tail with tremendous force. Skadi met the onslaught directly.

While Thane and Skadi engaged one Titan each, the remaining two formidable foes were left to the other commanders of the allied forces.

"Maintain the formation! Prevent their groups from joining forces!"

The human commander bellowed, his sword a blur as he unleashed a barrage of techniques and skills.

Unlike the Cienthropes, Therianthropes, and various other demi-human races, humans lacked innate specializations that granted them immense power in specific areas, such as the enhanced agility of some or the earth manipulation abilities of the dwarves. Humans did not possess such inherent gifts.

What humans did possess was an unparalleled capacity for adaptation.

In contrast to other species, humans exhibited remarkable versatility, their talents enabling them to master all manner of techniques and skills, even those originating from other races.

The human commander showcased this adaptive prowess, cooperating effectively with the demi-human races to confront the two Malice Engines.

Certainly, the leaders of the other races were formidable warriors in their own right, their power not to be underestimated.

Not a single commander was faltering or falling behind their peers.

However, if one were to identify a weakness, or rather, a deficit in decisive offensive capability, it would be the elf commander.

He drew an arrow, nocked it, and fired at a joint on the Titan, causing a localized explosion. Yet, apart from momentarily hindering its movement, the attack had little lasting effect. This caused the elf commander's expression to darken, and he murmured with a dejected tone.

"If only the World Tree still stood, our race would not be this diminished."

Recalling the legendary power his ancestors had spoken of, he could only offer a sigh. Though he did not linger on regret, quickly resuming his assault.

The Titans let out roars of mechanical rage, and the battlefield plunged further into utter chaos.

Four Titan-class Malice Engines pitted against a small contingent of allied leaders. The ensuing confrontation was nothing short of legendary.

The leaders stood unyielding, showcasing the formidable powers they had honed over countless years. They fought, they bled, and they sustained severe injuries multiple times.

Nevertheless, with an unbreakable will, they repeatedly rose to their feet, refusing to be defeated.

Under the unyielding resolve of these leaders, they began to gradually seize the advantage.

The first Titan succumbed, followed by the second, and then the third and fourth met their end.

It appeared that victory was within their grasp.

That being said, triumph came at a tremendous cost. Their breaths were shallow gasps, their armor lay in shattered pieces, and their bodies were hemorrhaged with wounds.

They resembled individuals who had already taken a step toward the grave.

Yet, even as their frames trembled from sheer exhaustion, the battle, or rather the war, was far from concluded.

Emerging from a horizon that had turned completely black, an seemingly endless horde advanced upon the plains. Their sheer numbers were incomprehensible.

And then there was that singular entity, moving with the ponderous rhythm of a collapsing mountain.

Yet another Titan-class Malice Engine materialized in the distance.

Witnessing this development, Thane leaned back against the haft of his hammer, letting out a hearty laugh.

"Well, now, isn't this a sight? Anyone care to wager who meets their maker first?"

"If it's you, dwarf, I'll personally ensure they carve 'short but loud' onto your tombstone."

Skadi scoffed, having returned to her normal human stature.

"I give the elf two minutes before he passes out," the human leader remarked with a wry grin.

Upon hearing this, the elf commander rolled his eyes.

"At least when I die, I won't reek of whores and cheap liquor."

Their banter was sharp and laced with racial taunts, yet these very jokes elicited laughter from the surrounding soldiers, significantly boosting morale.

For death was rapidly approaching, and they were all prepared to face it with defiance.

The swarm of Malice Engines had enveloped them like a suffocating black carpet, and just as it seemed inevitable doom had arrived, it was then...

The very sky erupted.

A thunderous sonic boom ripped through the heavens, and a colossal shadow emerged from the far distance.
