Switched Marriage: The Coddled Little Wife Chapter 807: Extra Story (Part 3)

Previously on Switched Marriage: The Coddled Little Wife...
Wang Tianxue found herself in an unexpected situation as He JianShe, a straightforward man with ties to her friend, helped her with household tasks. After an awkward start in the kitchen, they began to bond over discussions about setting up his new apartment. As they shared a meal of scallion oil noodles, their initial discomfort faded, revealing a growing camaraderie. He JianShe complimented her cooking, suggesting a budding friendship, while Tianxue contemplated how to navigate their newfound connection with both gratitude and a hint of uncertainty.

How could Wang Tianxue possibly allow a visitor to do the cleaning up? However, He JianShe insisted, saying, "You prepared the entire meal, so washing a couple of dishes is the least I can do. If you keep acting this way, I’ll feel too uncomfortable to stay and eat. Given the bond between you, my junior sister, and my father, there shouldn't be such a gap between us. Perhaps I misunderstood. I am the one who..."

"No," Wang Tianxue quickly cut He JianShe off.

She certainly hadn't intended to give that impression.

Her only concern was that since He JianShe was a guest who had already provided so much assistance, making him scrub the plates felt wrong.

Furthermore, Wang Tianxue remained quite traditional at heart.

Back when she lived with Yang Rui, she handled every aspect of the domestic chores.

In this day and age, tasks like laundry, cooking, and maintaining the home are generally viewed as a woman’s responsibility.

By now, He JianShe had already carried the plates into the kitchen, and Wang Tianxue could still catch glimpses of him through the doorway.

The weather was pleasant today, with the sun casting a comfortable warmth.

Earlier, while they were hauling items into the house, He JianShe had become so warm that he discarded his jacket.

Currently, he was dressed only in a military-green shirt.

The sleeves were pushed up past his elbows, exposing his sturdy, well-defined forearms.

His complexion was a bit dark, possessing a healthy, wheat-colored glow.

Despite his naturally stern features, he surprisingly enjoyed smiling.

When Wang Tianxue saw him flash those two rows of bright white teeth at her again, she had no choice but to smile back.

Ever since their first encounter, the primary impression He JianShe left on Wang Tianxue was his penchant for smiling.

A friendly grin accompanied almost everything he said.

She occasionally wondered if a police commissioner with such a gentle temperament could actually manage his subordinates.

If he had to deal with criminals, how could he possibly interrogate them with such a kind image? He probably wouldn't be able to force a confession out of anyone.

The mental image made Wang Tianxue break into a spontaneous laugh.

"What are you laughing at?"

He JianShe questioned as he dried his hands and stepped out to stand before her.

Wang Tianxue tried to pull herself together, but seeing his face made it impossible to stop completely.

Fighting back her giggles, she replied, "Nothing, I'm not laughing at anything in particular."

Naturally, He JianShe didn't buy it, but he didn't press the issue, simply watching her with an amused glint in his eyes.

Wang Tianxue finally lost the battle and laughed out loud.

He JianShe suspected the joke was at his expense, but he took no offense and simply enjoyed watching her laugh.

While laughing, Wang Tianxue caught his gaze and eventually felt her face turn a deep shade of crimson.

"Um... why don't we head out to shop and get your things ready? You've only had a single day to rest and it wasn't easy; if you get everything set up now, you'll be able to have dinner tonight."

Otherwise, wouldn't he have to go without food?

As bright as Wang Tianxue was, she hadn't considered that even if he couldn't cook at home, he could simply buy a meal elsewhere.

Even for a police commissioner, it wasn't as if he would starve.

With his hands tucked behind his back, He JianShe followed her out of the house.

They returned to the department store, though this time it was to help He JianShe with his shopping.

Wang Tianxue wasn't entirely sure what He JianShe liked. Although the market lacked variety, there were different patterns and sizes available. She assumed a large man would prefer bigger bowls.

"Brother He, what style of bowls and plates would you like? And regarding this pot, is it just for you or should we get a larger one? Perhaps a bigger one would be better, just in case friends visit or Old He comes to stay for a bit; that should be enough."

In Wang Tianxue’s household, it was just her and Xiao Long, so her cookware was on the smaller side.

After a moment of thought, He JianShe said, "Something for three people is fine. You should pick whatever bowls you think look good. I don't have much of a preference; the ones you selected this morning were quite nice."

Wang Tianxue: "..."

The bowls she had chosen were all shades of pink and red; she hadn't expected a rugged man like Brother He to have such feminine tastes.

However, Wang Tianxue didn't take him literally. Having known him for a short while, she understood He JianShe was simply being kind and polite.

Ultimately, Wang Tianxue selected a set of blue-themed dishes for him, along with several other necessities.

Since there wasn't a suitable storage cabinet available, He JianShe commissioned an identical one from the shopkeeper to be picked up in a few days.

Even though they bought fewer items than she had that morning, He JianShe didn't decline her assistance. Consequently, she stayed to help him move everything in.

The police station had assigned He JianShe an apartment in a newly built residential block for families, situated on the third floor.

The unit featured a three-bedroom, one-living room layout, which was significantly more spacious than Wang Tianxue’s place.

However, the furniture provided by the office was very standard and conservative, giving the home the atmosphere of an elderly official's residence.

Well, even though He JianShe wasn't old, he was indeed an official.

"Your home is truly spacious," Wang Tianxue complimented him sincerely.

With his characteristic smile, He JianShe replied, "The unit provided a standard apartment. It's a bit of a waste for just me. I told the organization a single dormitory room would suffice, but they insisted that looking after the personal lives of their staff is their duty. They mentioned that giving me a single room now would only mean reapplying for a house once I start a family, so arranging this now saves the organization trouble later."

"Your superiors are very thoughtful. I think they have the right idea; after all, Old He has been eager for a grandchild, hasn't he?"

During dinner at Xiaxia’s house the other day, Old He hadn't missed the opportunity to tease Brother He about that very topic, and Wang Tianxue had heard every word.

He JianShe merely smiled and offered no rebuttal.

Once the supplies were placed in the kitchen, He JianShe checked his watch and said with some hesitation, "I've heard that one shouldn't dine alone for the very first meal in a new home. I'm a bit clumsy and not much of a cook, so inviting a crowd would be too much—Tianxue, would you mind staying to help me warm the kitchen today?"

Wang Tianxue had been ready to say no, but after hearing that, she didn't know how to turn him down.

Seeing the man’s sincere and hopeful expression, she finally relented, "Alright then, but I have to pick up my son shortly; school is almost over."

He JianShe beamed instantly, "That’s perfect! I’ve heard it’s even better luck to have a child present to warm a new kitchen. I’m fortunate to have invited the right people. What time does he finish? Let's go buy some groceries now."

"Sure, I know a market nearby where the food is both fresh and affordable."

Wang Tianxue could see that He JianShe really was clueless about domestic life, so she decided to assist him.

Their first stop was the daycare to collect Xiao Long.

The teacher brought Xiao Long out, and the boy skipped over happily the moment he spotted his mother.

When he noticed the tall man standing next to Wang Tianxue, he blinked his big, curious eyes at him.

Wang Tianxue introduced them, "This is Uncle He, say hello."

Xiao Long spoke up clearly, "Hello, Uncle He."

He JianShe gave a hearty response and leaned down to lift the little boy up.

"Hey..."

Wang Tianxue started to protest, but He JianShe had already turned and was walking away with the child in his arms.
