Yu Sihuang attempted to kiss Luo Qingtong, but she tricked him into kissing her Little Fragrant Pig instead. Disgusted, Yu Sihuang retreated while Luo Qingtong explained her actions. Afterward, Luo Qingtong instructed Su Yu and the others to settle the Tianxie people and strengthen their Fake Soul Marks. She then questioned Chu Lingfeng about his presence in Barbaric City, revealing he had followed her after his mission, fearing she would abandon him and give him to a sect.

A wave of helplessness washed over Chu Lingfeng. His second life had been a gift from Luo Qingtong; without her, the current him wouldn't exist. He understood only loyalty and obedience to his master, and the thought of her no longer wanting him left him adrift. He harbored no desire to follow or heed anyone but her. "Master, you promised you wouldn't abandon me!"

Luo Qingtong gazed at this devoted, almost canine-like figure, another surge of helplessness rising within her. "I gave you my word, and I will keep it. That identity is merely a protective charm I acquired for you, which will make your journey in the outside world much smoother."

As she spoke, Luo Qingtong’s eyes flickered towards Yu Sihuang, whose face had turned a sickly green from listening to Chu Lingfeng’s declarations. A slight smile touched her lips. Since the token had been entrusted to her, she intended to utilize it to its fullest potential.

Witnessing the dynamic between master and servant caused Yu Sihuang’s lips to curl involuntarily. The two were truly alike! One manipulated him, while the other, unintentionally or not, threw barbs his way. Was it too much to ask for a sliver of sincerity? Yu Sihuang’s mood soured.

However, as Luo Qingtong’s gaze met his, he inclined his head. "Understood. Henceforth, the Emperor Sect shall have a protector, Chu Lingfeng, though he will not be involved in its daily affairs." He paused, then added, "I will relay this matter promptly." Luo Qingtong had saved his life, and even without any particular fondness for her, Yu Sihuang would readily assist with such a minor request. His earlier attempt to leverage the situation for personal gain was merely a jest. Even if Luo Qingtong hadn't agreed, he would have still given her the token. To think he couldn't outsmart her—!

Recalling the significant predicament he had just fallen into, Yu Sihuang stared at Luo Qingtong with unmistakable resentment. Luo Qingtong, however, seemed oblivious to his feelings. Acknowledging his response with a nod, she turned her attention back to Chu Lingfeng. "What is the situation with the Hu Family? And how did you find yourself being dragged behind a horse by those young masters from noble families?"

Luo Qingtong’s brow furrowed as she posed these questions, her expression growing serious. Because Chu Lingfeng was known for his honesty and innocence, Luo Qingtong typically adopted a gentler demeanor around him. Yet, when it came to matters of principle, she would not compromise her dignity in the slightest! She had previously impressed upon Chu Lingfeng that, apart from herself, no one held the authority to command his subservience. He should have been capable of resisting their coercion, yet he ended up being dragged behind a horse! If he couldn’t provide a clear and satisfactory explanation for this, her promise not to abandon him would be rendered void! She could not tolerate individuals who readily abased themselves before others, especially when it tarnished her own reputation and dignity!

"Master..." Chu Lingfeng looked at her with palpable unease, hesitant to conceal anything. "It was them... they told me that only if I complied with their demands would they permit my mother’s return." He stammered, "Master, please don’t be angry... I..." The more anxious he became, the less coherent his words grew.

Luo Qingtong had already gleaned a portion of the story from his fragmented explanation. She recollected Lady Yan’s earlier request for her to keep a discreet eye on the Hu Family upon her arrival in the Extreme West Wilderness Barbaric City, without revealing her name. Combined with the hushed whispers she had overheard at the city gates, a question began to form: was there something more concealed within this entire affair?
