Supreme Divine Physician in the City Chapter 1612: The Female Zhuge of Our Time
Previously on Supreme Divine Physician in the City...
The atmosphere of the night was tranquil, like calm water.
After tending to his wounds and applying bandages, Ye Xuan proceeded to the rooftop balcony. He lay back on a recliner, lit a cigarette, and gazed at the starry sky, his thoughts a tangled mess of complex emotions.
The day's bloodshed had been exceptionally heavy. The demise of dozens of individuals from the three major sects was to be expected. However, the death of the Sword God beneath his blade left Ye Xuan feeling profoundly unsettled.
"To think the Sword God, a hero of his time," Ye Xuan exhaled a long sigh. How vexing life could be. If he didn't kill, he would be killed. There was no room for personal feelings, only the necessity of one's position. Despite his admiration and respect for the Sword God, Ye Xuan had no other choice.
Suddenly, a familiar, pleasant fragrance wafted towards him. Ye Xuan's brow, sharp as a sword, lifted slightly as he turned his head. An ethereally beautiful figure appeared before him. She seemed to have just emerged from a bath, her raven-black hair still slightly damp, cascading over her exquisite shoulders like a blooming lotus, a vision of striking beauty. She wore a simple black nightgown, exuding an aura of mature elegance, a calm and reserved demeanor that mirrored her personality.
"Wife, my dear wife, you don't even want to share a bed with me, so must you appear before me dressed like this at night? Being your man is utterly exhausting!" Ye Xuan couldn't help but voice his playful complaint.
Lin Tong was momentarily taken aback, a delicate blush staining her cheeks, betraying a hint of shyness. Yet, she would never overtly display it. "Hmph, if you dislike the sight, then don't look. Who is forcing you to stare?" Lin Tong retorted with a cool snort before settling onto the recliner next to Ye Xuan. Her languid posture and graceful curves seemed to be bathed in a divine radiance under the moonlight, enough to make one's heart pound!
Am I being deliberately tormented by you in the middle of the night, my wife? Seeing the incredibly alluring Lin Tong beside him, Ye Xuan's lips twitched. He eventually closed his eyes, unable to fight the allure, unable to look away, yet unable to truly avert his gaze. It was better to close his eyes and try to forget everything in the world.
A faint melancholy bloomed in his heart, and Ye Xuan felt a sting behind his eyes. He recalled a time when Lin Tong was so proud and aloof. The mere thought of appearing before him in such a state, let alone allowing him to touch her, would have earned him a lecture lasting half the day. But now... the fact that Lin Tong could naturally appear before him in her alluring sleepwear was indeed a cause for happiness, but this happiness was deeply intertwined with a myriad of complex emotions. It was akin to a tiger trapped in a cage, gazing at a piece of meat just outside the iron bars – a desperate craving, yet utterly unreachable.
Who could possibly comprehend such a feeling? Ye Xuan sighed once more, "Perhaps this is the tribulation within my destiny."
"What tribulation in your destiny?" Lin Tong inquired from her spot beside him, her voice laced with confusion.
"It's nothing." Ye Xuan shook his head, unwilling to elaborate further. He continued with his eyes closed, "Why did you suddenly come up to accompany me?"
Lin Tong pursed her lips and replied, "I couldn't sleep; I wasn't sleepy."
"Couldn't sleep?" Ye Xuan showed surprise, followed by a chuckle. "Why could you not sleep?"
Lin Tong shot Ye Xuan a knowing glare. Wasn't it because she was worried about him? She had waited for him all day at home, and upon his return, covered in blood, any devoted wife would find it impossible to sleep soundly, wouldn't she? However, since Ye Xuan had returned safely, Lin Tong, being the considerate person she was, chose not to dwell on it or complain further.
After a moment of contemplation, Lin Tong suddenly asked, "The Sword God of the Northern Federation... he's dead?"
Ye Xuan's eyes widened in surprise, the smile on his face slowly vanishing. He forced a wry smile, "Yes, he's dead. I killed him."
Lin Tong observed Ye Xuan for a moment, then commented, "It seems he was a man worthy of respect."
Ye Xuan nodded in agreement. "Indeed. While I harbor no feelings for the people of the Northern Federation, he was, without question, a respectable individual."
Lin Tong fell into a reflective silence, understanding that speaking further about the deceased served no purpose. Her reason for coming upstairs, claiming she couldn't sleep, was only partially true. The primary reason was that upon Ye Xuan's return, she had sensed from his demeanor that something was amiss. In this world, while not necessarily the person who understood Ye Xuan the most profoundly, Lin Tong was undoubtedly the one who could feel his inner turmoil most acutely.
She could sense that despite his triumphant return, Ye Xuan displayed no trace of elation. Instead, he appeared like a child who had committed a wrongdoing, burdened by guilt and compassion. She hadn't intended to offer grand solutions. As his wife, shouldn't she offer him some solace during such trying times? Perhaps a few words of comfort could alleviate his troubled heart.
The silence hung heavy for a beat. Lin Tong then extended her fair hand and gently took hold of Ye Xuan's hand. Startled, Ye Xuan unconsciously opened his eyes to gaze at Lin Tong.
Lin Tong offered a gentle smile, her lips curving. "You haven't done anything wrong. Many times, you're not in control, and surely can't fulfill everything. If you keep dwelling on it, you're disrespecting your opponent."
"I know."
A warmth spread through Ye Xuan's heart as he smiled. "I just had some thoughts today. After tonight, everything will be in the past."
"That's good."
Lin Tong nodded, her beautiful eyes shifting as she intentionally changed the subject. "By the way, I noticed Diana, the one nicknamed Witch, seems quite interested in you?"
Ye Xuan's expression turned to stone. *Wife, your topic change is too swift! My husband can't keep up with this pace!*
Ye Xuan's dark eyes darted around swiftly, analyzing countless intentions behind Lin Tong's question in that instant. There was no choice; this was an instinct honed by a strong survival desire.
Without missing a beat, Ye Xuan found the best response.
"Yeah, you saw it?" Ye Xuan complimented with a smile. "Wife, you truly are a modern-day female Zhuge; nothing escapes your eyes!"
"It's obvious to anyone with eyes," Lin Tong scoffed at Ye Xuan.
"Is it that apparent?" Ye Xuan looked quite dejected.
"Couldn't be more apparent."
Lin Tong said softly, "With just a word from you, she obediently stayed in the villa all day with a group of strangers. Although it could be interpreted as obeying superior orders, when you returned, even her glance at you was sneaky, not the usual attitude of a subordinate to a superior."
Ye Xuan rubbed his nose with some helplessness.
*I want to keep a low profile, but my capability doesn’t allow it!*
Lin Tong glanced at Ye Xuan again, pouting slightly. "From a normal aesthetic perspective, Diana is also a near-perfect Western woman. Are you not tempted at all?"
Ye Xuan shook his head without hesitation. "Not even a little, not even half a little!"
Lin Tong stared deeply at Ye Xuan for a while, then nodded. "I see. If you were even a little interested in her, you wouldn't have behaved as you did today, having her work painstakingly all day for you, but once you returned home, you had her go back to her post without even a kind word, and your expression was indifferent."
