Celeste Linden quietly nestled in his arms, Ethan Barnes’s kiss landed on her forehead. “What did you use to bathe? You smell so good.”
Celeste looked up at him. “You can go in and shower too, the bath gel’s in there, you’ll smell great.”
Ethan gave her a deep look. “Playing dumb, is that what I meant by saying you smell good?”
“Then what do you mean?” Celeste turned over, half her body leaning on his strong frame.
Ethan half-reclined against the headboard, seeing her curl up like a little kitten, his throat tightened.
Celeste smirked. “Is my understanding correct now, is that your meaning?”
Ethan suddenly realized she indeed had the makings of a little seductress. He wrapped his arm around her soft waist, pulling her up, and asked with a smile, “Celeste, what’s gotten into you? You weren’t like this before.”
“Do you like the way I am now?”
“Of course I do.”
“If you like it, then stop asking questions.” Celeste looped her arms around his neck, kissing him again.
Ethan narrowed his handsome eyes, feeling all the bones in his body melting, but now wasn’t the time. Why did she become so daring only after getting pregnant?
Ethan pulled her away. “Wait, no.”
Celeste looked at him, testing his resolve. “Why not, Ethan? Didn’t I tell you, I’ve dreamed about you, several times.”
Ethan stiffened, knowing full well it wasn’t a dream, but rather something bad he’d done.
“What did you dream about me?”
Celeste’s delicate fingers played with his collar, her voice soft. “I dreamed that we were together, and in the dream, you’re perfectly well.”
Ethan’s eyes brightened. “Do you like me being well?”
Celeste shyly glanced at him, then punched his chest lightly. “You’re so naughty, asking me that—what do you think?”
Her answer was evident, and Ethan understood instantly.
He took the opportunity to ask, “Celeste, do you like the feeling of being with me?”
Celeste rolled off him and turned away, pretending to ignore him. “What’s the use of saying all this, it’s just a dream, not reality. You’re not well now; we can’t be together.”
Ethan was bewildered, and immediately leaned over to her, grasping her smooth shoulders. “Celeste, what if I say I’m well now? Would you be with me?”
Celeste looked at him and nodded earnestly. “Yes.”
Receiving this definite answer, Ethan was overjoyed, previously unsure how to explain, but now it was easy.
She was willing to be with him, as long as he revealed the truth, they could be together forever.
“Celeste, I have something to tell you.”
“What is it?”
Ethan held her small hand. “Actually, I’m already well.”
Celeste immediately sat up. “Really? When did you get well, you’re not lying to me, right?”
“How could I lie about something like this? If you don’t believe me, you can test and see if I’m truly well.”
Celeste paused for a few seconds. “So when did you get well, just now?”
Ethan thought for a moment and decided to be honest. “Celeste, actually my body was always fine, I wasn’t injured. At the time, I colluded with the old man to deceive you, trying to trick you into marrying me.”
