Ethan Barnes publicly doted on Celeste, carrying her home despite her protests. Once home, Celeste intended to cook, but Ethan declared he would handle the cooking from now on. His first attempt, with Danielle's guidance, resulted in burnt rice and a smoky kitchen, attracting concerned neighbors.

Everyone saw Ethan Barnes in the kitchen and started teasing him one after another.

Ethan immediately opened the windows to let the thick smoke disperse. How was he supposed to know his first time cooking would almost blow up the kitchen?

Turns out cooking looks simple, but it’s actually this hard.

At this moment, Celeste Linden stepped forward. “Let me do it.”

Ethan frowned. “Why did you get out of bed? Didn’t I tell you to lie down and rest?”

“If I don’t come out, I’m afraid you’ll burn the whole house down,” Celeste said helplessly.

“…”

Celeste tied on an apron and started cleaning up the kitchen. She called out to everyone, “Since you’re here, stay and eat with us.”

“Sure, sis-in-law. Your cooking is amazing, we all want to stay for dinner.”

Ethan gave him a kick. “You’re useless at everything except eating. All you know is freeloading meals.”

Everyone laughed and dodged away. “Boss, we won’t just eat for free. I’ll go whip up a couple dishes.”

“I’ll go kill a chicken. Our own free-range chickens taste fantastic.”

They actually didn’t need to prepare any more dishes, because Ethan had already bought a lot of ribs and such. Now that Celeste was pregnant, she needed nutrition.

Celeste started cooking, and Ethan didn’t leave. Instead, he stayed right by her side as her assistant.

He was acting way too out of character today. Celeste looked at him suspiciously. “Ethan, don’t you have anything to do? Why are you staying in the kitchen the whole time?”

He was usually very busy.

“You’re not feeling well. I’ll stay home more to keep you company from now on.”

There he went again about her not feeling well.

It was just a minor issue, and he was taking it so seriously.

Ethan saw the confusion on her face but didn’t explain more, because he still couldn’t tell her about the pregnancy.

Once he told her, his two secrets would be exposed.

The doctor had said that in the first three months of pregnancy, the mother shouldn’t have big emotional swings. He was afraid of upsetting her.

Even though this wasn’t fair to her—after all, carrying a child is very hard work—he’d already bullied her in his dreams, and now he was going to coax her into muddling through and giving birth.

But he really hadn’t figured out how to tell her yet. He was afraid of losing her.

He’d wait until the three months were up and then find a chance to tell her.

Ethan reached out and hugged her from behind, burying his handsome face in her soft hair and taking a deep breath. “Other women all want their husbands to spend more time with them. I’m here with you now and you’re still not happy?”

When did he become so clingy? This wasn’t like his usual cold and arrogant self at all.

“Let go of me, someone might see.”

“I’m not letting go. Let me hold you for a bit.”

“…”

…

Very soon, Celeste had a whole table full of dishes ready, and everyone happily sat around together.

“Sis-in-law, have some soda?”

“Your sis-in-law’s not drinking that.” Ethan set a bowl of chicken soup by Celeste’s hand. “Soft drinks are junk. Chicken soup’s better for you.”

As he spoke, Ethan picked up a spoonful of chicken soup and held it to Celeste’s lips. “Ah—open up.”

Everyone watched this scene and thought their boss was being disgustingly lovey-dovey.

As soon as Celeste caught the smell of the chicken soup, her brows knitted together. She pressed a small hand to her chest; she felt a wave of nausea.

“Celeste, what’s wrong?” Sensing something was off, Ethan immediately asked in alarm.

“I’m fine. I’ll go drink some water, you guys eat first.”

Celeste didn’t want to spoil everyone’s mood, so using hot water as an excuse, she went into the kitchen.

She didn’t even know what was going on with her. She suddenly couldn’t stand the smell of any meat broth.

Could it be that she…
