Celeste and Ethan are at the civil affairs bureau to register their marriage. Ethan gets into a public argument with another man, displaying a cold and temperamental attitude that embarrasses Celeste. Despite her attempts to de-escalate, Ethan remains aloof, eventually telling Celeste to queue alone while he naps. When their turn finally comes, the staff member questions Celeste about her certainty in marrying Ethan, given his behavior.

Snort.

A cold snort came from beside her—it was Ethan Barnes letting out a sarcastic little laugh.

"Hey, that question shouldn’t be for her, it should be for me. I don’t want to marry her at all. If the old man hadn’t forced me, I’d never marry her!"

"..." Celeste Linden was about to explode. She hurriedly reached out her little hand and clamped it over Ethan Barnes’s mouth. Young master, can you shut up?

Celeste shot the staffer an apologetic look. "M-marriage, yes, I’m getting married of my own free will. I’ve thought it through. I want to marry him!"

The staffer handed them a pen. "Alright, then sign here."

Celeste grabbed the pen first and swiftly signed her name, then passed the pen to Ethan Barnes. "Your turn to sign."

Young master, let’s hurry up and sign so we don’t cause trouble, okay?

Ethan glanced at Celeste, then reluctantly took the pen and scrawled his name on the form.

The staffer stamped the papers. "Newlyweds, please come over here for your photo."

Ethan Barnes and Celeste Linden sat down in front of the camera. The photographer flashed them a thumbs‑up "eggplant" pose. "Newlyweds, give me a smile. You should smile sweetly on your wedding day."

Celeste immediately broke into a smile.

But Ethan Barnes kept his handsome face frozen in an icy mask.

The photographer pressed on. "Groom, give me a smile, okay?"

Ethan didn’t react at all.

Celeste said, "Just shoot, don’t mind him—he’s... got facial paralysis."

Well, alright then. The photographer hit the shutter; click, the photo came out, and two little red booklets were handed to Celeste Linden.

Celeste took the red booklets and walked out of the civil affairs bureau. She looked at the photo: she was smiling gently and brightly, while the man beside her really did look like someone with a frozen face.

Compared to him, she was there grinning all by herself, looking like a total fool.

Celeste couldn’t even muster up a temper anymore.

Just then, a big hand reached over and snatched the two red booklets from her.

"Young master, why are you grabbing the marriage certificates? Let me keep them." Celeste was really afraid he’d get in a mood and tear them up.

Ethan Barnes shoved the two red booklets into his pants pocket. "I have to hand these in to the old man as proof, so he doesn’t keep bothering me!"

"..."

Okay then, that was a reason she couldn’t argue with.

...

The two of them went back home. The old man was very satisfied, nodding again and again. "Ethan, Celeste, now that you’ve got your marriage certificate, Grandpa will organize a grand wedding for you and invite all our friends and relatives. Do you prefer a Chinese‑style wedding or a Western‑style one?"

What?

They still had to have a wedding?

Celeste’s heart gave a little shiver. Honestly, she didn’t like all that complicated ceremony. She preferred something quiet.

She wanted to refuse. "Grandpa..."

Before she could finish, Ethan cut her off. "Do whatever you want. However you want to fuss over it, just fuss over it."

With that, Ethan turned and headed upstairs.

Celeste stared at his back in surprise. Did that mean he’d agreed to have a wedding?

She’d thought this tyrant would be dying to skip the whole thing.

At that moment, the old man slapped the table. "Then we’ll have a Chinese‑style wedding. The Barnes family’s eldest legitimate son always has a grand, solemn Chinese ceremony when he gets married!"

Celeste sat on the sofa. Well, fine. Clearly no one actually planned on asking for her opinion. What could she even say?

The old man moved very fast. He picked an auspicious date to hold the wedding in the middle of the month, and the gold‑stamped invitations had already all gone out.

Celeste, on her side, invited her family friends Morgan Ashworth and Willow Crawford, plus her partners from her work as chief designer angel.

The wedding was being held with great fanfare.
