Celeste Linden helps an injured Ethan Barnes evade pursuers and, despite her fear, prepares to remove a bullet from him at his insistence. Danielle offers comfort to her father as Celeste steels herself for the dangerous procedure.

He said he’s willing to die by your hand.

Celeste Linden looked up at him. His handsome face, damp with cold sweat, seemed more rugged. After three years, he exuded even more masculinity. Now, as he looked at her, there was a smile in his eyes, giving an illusion of warmth.

Celeste averted her gaze, "You may want to die by my hand, but I don’t want to take anyone’s life. So grit your teeth and hold on."

As she spoke, the red-hot knife in Celeste’s hand plunged into his chest. The tip of the blade touched the bullet inside, and she pressed in, digging it out.

Her hands were trembling, and some blood splashed onto her face. Yet, her eyes, clear as water, were brave and resolute, full of strength.

Ah!

Without anesthesia, as the heart-wrenching pain came, he clenched his fists tightly and let out a fierce growl.

Celeste couldn’t bear to watch him. He was a man of strength, and no matter how painful, his body didn’t move an inch.

Thud.

The bullet inside was extracted and fell to the ground.

"Danielle, quickly get the hemostatic medicine." Celeste promptly called out.

Danielle immediately rummaged through the medical box and handed the hemostatic medicine to Celeste. "Here, Mommy, for you."

Celeste pressed the hemostatic medicine onto his wound, and the fresh blood gradually stopped flowing.

She promptly wrapped thick gauze around his chest, helping him bandage it up.

After doing all this, Celeste removed her bloodstained gloves, her legs gave way, and she collapsed into a chair.

She didn’t know if she owed this man something in her previous life, following him she seemed capable of doing anything.

"General Barnes, I’ve only handled it roughly. Once we leave, you must immediately find a professional doctor to treat it, to prevent wound infection."

Her pure and gentle voice echoed in his ears. Ethan Barnes felt it was very near yet very distant.

He moved his fingers, wanting to grasp something, but his eyelids were so heavy, he couldn’t open them. Slowly, he closed his eyes.

At this moment, Danielle walked over to him, "Mister! Mister, what’s wrong, wake up!"

Ethan didn’t respond.

Danielle quickly called out to Celeste, "Mommy, look, it seems like Mister has fallen asleep!"

Celeste immediately stepped forward, terribly afraid of Ethan falling into a coma, for once he fell into a coma, he might not wake up.

"Ethan! Ethan, wake up, you can’t sleep now!"

"Mister! Mister!"

At this time, Ethan moved a little and with great effort opened his eyes. He saw the mother and daughter standing by his bed, looking at him with concern and anxiety.

Something surged in Ethan’s heart, he didn’t know what it was that filled his heart to the brim.

He tugged at the corner of his mouth, "I’m okay."

Celeste let out a huge sigh of relief.

"Mister, does it hurt a lot?" Danielle’s innocent, soft voice lingered in his ears, "Look, your forehead is all sweaty. Let me wipe it for you."

Danielle reached out her small hand to wipe the sweat from Ethan’s forehead.

Ethan found this little hand astonishingly small, astonishingly soft, able to soothe all his wounds.

In fact, when Danielle was born three years ago, he had been waiting outside the delivery room. When she was wheeled in by the doctor, he paced outside, anxiously waiting, wishing he could rush in.

Soon, there was a cry from inside, and Danielle was born, with a clear, bright cry.

The doctor came out with good news, "Congratulations, it’s a baby girl weighing six pounds two ounces."

He was delighted, but he couldn’t go in because he had promised her never to appear in her life again.
