Substitute Bride's Husband Is An Invisible Rich Man Chapter 261 - The Huo Family’s Approval
Huo Zhen reclined on the plush bed, his gaze resting on Mo Yan as she diligently attended to him by the bedside.
Following their helicopter's touchdown, a private physician had promptly seen to his injuries, applying bandages. He was healing well, and considering his naturally robust constitution, a few days of rest would see him fully recovered and brimming with energy.
Although a competent nurse was available at home, Huo Zhen noticed Mo Yan's evident worry. He therefore allowed her to manage his daily care.
Mo Yan, inexperienced and flustered by her concern, proved clumsy.
While attempting to administer his medication, her footing faltered, resulting in more than half the glass of water being spilled directly onto Huo Zhen.
"Get out of here. What use are you besides causing trouble?" Before Huo Zhen could utter a word, Huo Yu, who was present in the room, could no longer contain her frustration. "Summon Auntie Wang; she was a professional nurse at the hospital. Your ineptitude is astounding."
Mo Yan dared not retort. Like a scolded child, she lowered her head, feeling deeply wronged, unable to defend herself.
"I believe she has been taking excellent care of me."
Huo Zhen offered a slight smile, his voice brimming with affection, a stark contrast to his usual intimidating demeanor.
"Excellent? What's so good about it? To this day, what else does she know besides creating messes?"
Huo Yu directed a huff towards Huo Zhen. Her brother had sustained only a hand injury; his mind shouldn't be affected, should it? Otherwise, how could he possibly believe Mo Yan was caring for him properly?
What exactly had she cared for?
"Huo Yu, you may leave. Mo Yan's presence is sufficient." Not only did Huo Zhen defend Mo Yan, but he also instructed Huo Yu to depart.
Huo Yu's eyes widened. For a moment, she questioned if she had heard correctly.
Yet, Huo Zhen proceeded to summon the butler, who then politely "escorted" Huo Yu out.
"Huo Zhen, he… he's a complete scoundrel!" Huo Yu felt utterly exasperated at being expelled by Huo Zhen. As the eldest daughter of the Huo family, she had never experienced such indignity!
Qin Yuan, observing her indignant exit from the doorway, couldn't help but let out a suppressed chuckle.
"What are you laughing at? You'll be kicked out too if you go in!" Huo Yu declared, hands on her hips. If she had foreseen Huo Zhen's ingratitude, she truly shouldn't have flown in by helicopter to rescue him. Wouldn't it have been preferable to leave him to perish in H City?
Qin Yuan merely smiled and replied softly.
"Who said I intended to enter? If I went in now, I would merely be a third wheel."
"You!"
Huo Yu's annoyance intensified, fueling Qin Yuan's amusement.
He recalled a time when he had suffered a high fever. Huo Yu had stayed by his side, caring for him much like Mo Yan was doing for Huo Zhen now. Unfortunately, Huo Yu, accustomed to being served, lacked the skills to care for others. She had nearly set his kitchen ablaze while attempting to make porridge, and the resulting meal was far from palatable, tasting even worse than spoiled rice.
Nevertheless, he had felt immense happiness while consuming it then. In the years that followed, whenever he found himself melancholy or dispirited, his thoughts would drift to Huo Yu's porridge and side dishes.
Now, it seemed highly unlikely he would ever have the chance to taste them again.
"What are you contemplating?" Huo Yu inquired, her brow furrowed as she observed Qin Yuan. She stood on tiptoe, reaching out to touch his forehead. "Why that expression? Could it be that you're feeling as unwell as my brother?"
Qin Yuan quickly stepped back, leaving Huo Yu's hand suspended in mid-air.
An palpable awkwardness settled between them.
After a considerable pause, Qin Yuan finally found his voice. "I'm fine, quite well, actually. It appears Huo Zhen doesn't have the capacity to see me today. I shall return another time. I still have a proposal awaiting his approval."
Huo Yu hastily withdrew her hand, swallowed nervously, and averted her gaze.
"Yes, you should leave. My brother is indeed too weak to see you. And in the future, perhaps refrain from visiting so frequently, as if we were intimately acquainted."
With those words, she not only lost her imposing demeanor but also nearly stumbled over her tongue.
After watching Qin Yuan depart, Huo Yu released a long, shaky breath.
She couldn't bear to remain in the room any longer. Tiptoeing to the door, she pressed half her body against it, straining to catch any sound from within.
Huo Zhen, noticing Mo Yan's continued efforts, reached out and gently pulled her closer.
Mo Yan was taken by surprise by Huo Zhen's sudden movement. Her body was drawn forward, and before she could fully react, she found herself leaning against Huo Zhen's frame. Fortunately, her reflexes were quick, and she used her hands to steady herself, preventing any further injury to Huo Zhen.
They were now inches apart, so close that she could distinctly hear the rapid beat of her own heart.
The air between them grew thick with unspoken tension.
A slight tremor in Huo Zhen’s throat was all she could discern, his deep, resonant voice igniting a languid, tingling sensation within her.
