"What the fuck is that look for?"
With a frown creasing his brow, Jason posed the question, while Farlow chuckled softly and shook his head.
"You Marc men are all so similar it frightens me at times. Both your grandfather and father pulled the exact same stunt. Your grandfather got my aunt pregnant before their wedding, and your father knocked up three of his wives prior to marriage too. That Avaran blood of yours is simply too potent."
A scoff escaped Jason upon hearing this, ignoring Farlow's crude remark entirely. His gaze shifted to Gina, where he spotted the dark circles under her eyes and the deep fatigue etched across her features, prompting him to conclude they urgently needed rest. Advancing toward Camille, he addressed her in a steady tone.
"Your highness, sorry for interrupting, but I think Gina and I need to get some rest before the festival tonight, and you look like you need to get some sleep as well."
Queen Camille clapped her hands to her mouth at these words, only then spotting the weariness on Gina's face and her unkempt state! Straight from clashing with the Valkan and conferring with the Spirit Queen, Gina's exhaustion was plain as day! Remorse filled Queen Camille's voice as she spoke!
"Oh, I’m so sorry! I was just so excited to talk to Gina that I forgot to be a good host. Please accept my apology, Prince Jason."
"Just Jason is fine."
Jason delivered these words with a grin, offering his hand to Gina, who grasped it gratefully and rose to her feet. A warm smile lit Queen Camille's face as she replied.
"Well, if I get to call you Jason, then please call me Camille. Your family and ours have become intertwined for all eternity, so I think it is only right that we become friends."
Gratefully, Jason inclined his head in agreement, pivoting as Farlow summoned someone from outside the chamber.
"Leanor, please come in."
The door swung open, unveiling an elven lady clad in majestic robes. Long blonde tresses framed her face, mirroring the royal kin. Her breathtaking allure and refined elegance humbled nearly every other woman! The clear likeness to Camille struck anyone who beheld her! Princess Leanor, third offspring and eldest princess of Arandelle's royal line, made her entrance. Her eyes flew straight to her mother upon stepping in, tears brimming instantly! Camille flung open her arms to her daughter, into whose embrace Leanor tumbled with a joyful, tear-streaked smile!
"I missed you so much, mama."
Lean's ethereal, mesmerizing voice struck Jason as ideal for melodies, so he lingered patiently until the mother-daughter reunion concluded before Farlow chimed in once more.
"Leanor, please show Jason and Gina to a room in the castle for them to rest. They’ve had a long day, so it’s best they freshen up before the festival. The preparations for the festival are already underway, and we’ll be sure to inform you once the activities begin."
Those final instructions from Farlow went to Jason and Gina, earning grateful nods from the pair. Her father's voice snapped Leanor back to reality, letting her swiftly regain poise upon noticing the visitors! Standing tall with regal bearing, she offered a courteous curtsy to her guests.
"Lord Jason, Lady Gina. First, allow me to express my eternal gratitude for what you’ve done for my family. Words can never describe the favour you have shown us. My name is Leanor, and I am the first princess of the kingdom of Arandelle. It would be my pleasure to be your guide for the remainder of your stay in our kingdom."
A slight nod and smile came from Jason toward Leanor, while Gina urged her to unwind. A faint blush colored Leanor's cheeks at Gina's advice, allowing her to ease up and return a smile. In a fleeting moment, Gina caught Leanor's gaze drifting to Jason, lingering overly long, and she stifled a laugh at the evident infatuation.
’She had a crush on you.’
Suddenly, Gina linked mentally with Jason, who arched an eyebrow her way before glancing at Leanor too. No longer fixed on him, Leanor still turned and bestowed a radiant smile when she sensed his attention. Unconvinced of any crush, Jason queried via the link as they trailed after Leanor from the room.
’Why do you think so?’
’Don’t you think it’s weird that a princess would come to escort us like this? You would usually send a servant to do this sort of thing, or even one of the high-ranking guards in the kingdom. I think Leanor asked Farlow to make her our escort so she could introduce herself to you.’
A faint scoff of amusement escaped Jason's lips. He understood well that Gina possessed a keener sense for such matters than him, owing to her being a woman. Without effort, Gina could detect any lady showing interest in him! Gina had spotted Hesbeath's love for him far earlier than Jason himself had! Therefore, if Gina suspected Leanor of having a crush on him, it might indeed hold truth. Jason parted his lips to speak to Gina, but he whipped around at the sound of Leanor's voice coming from ahead.
"Uhm, Lord Jason, I heard a lot about your recent battles against the Machina and your journey through the Primordial Expanse. I’ve always had a great admiration for grand tales from the Period of Lawlessness, and I can’t help but think your tales are even grander in comparison! But it must’ve been very terrifying to fight against an entire world."
Calmly shaking his head, Jason responded.
"Not really. I just did what I had to do."
With a subtle turn, Leanor peeked at Jason, her cheeks tinged with a light blush, as she clasped her hands behind her back and spoke in a gentle tone.
"I don’t really know much about the other worlds around us since I’ve spent most of my life in Arandelle. I’ve only ever travelled through the Primordial Expanse through stories I’ve read. But I think what you did was very heroic. You were willing to go to war against an entire world for your family. That... that was very inspiring."
A soft hum and tiny smile crossed Jason's face as they reached their room at last. Leanor moved aside, dropping into a curtsy to let them pass inside. Jason and Gina offered thanks for her guidance, yet just as Jason moved to shut the door, Leanor's voice rose louder once more.
"Uhm, My Lord! I-I know there has been a lot of backlash from people who don’t support you, but I just wanted you to know that I think what you did was very honorable and brave! I think you deserve to be called a hero, and I will always support you! P-Please have a good rest!"
Leanor spun on her heel and briskly hurried away before Jason could respond, and he glanced aside, rolling his eyes in mirth at Gina's impish grin. Fine, perhaps the princess nursed a small infatuation for him. Jason merely hoped Farlow wouldn't float some foolish betrothal idea to 'strengthen the bonds' between their clans. He bore no grudge against girls fancying him; such admiration was commonplace for those held in high regard, and he'd long adapted to the notice, but he refused any coerced union for petty alliances.
