"Sorry," Lucien muttered as he dashed after her. He'd always imagined Angels as gentle and merciful creatures. This rude Angel was utterly different, displaying a truly awful temperament.

Ten minutes later, they came upon a modest cottage situated right in the heart of the breathtaking landscape.

"Your Excellency, Macuilxochitl, I brought the soul that you requested," the Angel announced while pushing the door open.

Stepping into the room, the chubby boy noticed an elderly man with a captivated expression fixed on his computer screen.

Soon enough, the old fellow stiffened upon noticing he had company in the room.

His immediate reaction was to leap up and shield the screen with his body, blocking the view from his visitors.

Though just for a split second, Lucien had glimpsed the half-naked anime girl displayed on the monitor.

Regrettably, despite the old man's efforts to hide the full scene from his guests, resounding moans blasted from the surround sound speakers mounted throughout the space, spoiling everything.

Right then, the old man grasped that he'd messed up badly.

The Angel's face twisted in disgust as she glared at the old man like he was trash.

The geezer cleared his throat awkwardly, looking away from the Angel's scornful gaze he couldn't bear.

'Will I truly be okay here?' Lucien wondered, eyeing the old man desperately trying—and failing—to appear respectable.

Evidently, the elder hadn't anticipated visitors bursting in unannounced while indulging in content unsuitable for kids.

"Boy, what is your name?" the old man called Macuilxochitl inquired, jabbing the computer's power button to shut it down abruptly.

As a fellow member of the Bros Before Hoes Brotherhood, the boy chose to go along with the old man's diversion tactic.

"My name is… Lucien," Lucien replied, forcing a somewhat stiff smile.

"Lucien? A good name," the old man remarked, scrutinizing Lucien from head to foot. "Well then, Lucien. Did my assistant, Himea, explain everything to you already?"

"Yes. She said that I was chosen to participate in the Heaven's Gate Project."

"And… did she say anything else aside from that?"

Lucien shook his head while glancing at the Angel, whose arms were folded across her chest.

"She said that this project is confidential," Lucien responded. "The only thing she asked me to do was to fill up the form for my rebirth."

"I see," Macuilxochitl stated, tugging at the white beard on his chin. "Very well. Before anything else let me properly introduce myself first. I am the God of Gamblers, Macuilxochitl. Since my name is a mouthful, just call me Max.

"I personally designed the Heaven's Gate Project in an attempt to send an individual to a particular world without being found out by the higher ups– I mean, to bypass certain old fogies who are sticklers to the rules."

"Are we doing something illegal?"

"Hahaha! Of course not. It's not a crime unless someone reports it to the authorities. You'll be fine… maybe."

"Hahaha... can I still back out?" Lucien asked while laughing nervously.

Max brushed off the question and pulled another form from his breast pocket, offering it to Lucien.

This new sheet resembled the one the boy had just completed, leading him to suspect it continued his character creation details.

"Since I chose you to become my guinea pig– I mean, my hero who will participate in this glorious project, it is only normal that I give you some freebies," Max declared with a grin that screamed swindler. "You may choose only one. So, take your time and choose wisely."

Lucien grasped the form from the God of Gamblers and examined its contents, harboring no real hopes.

Yet, only thirty seconds in, Lucien's eyes bulged in shock at the incredible "freebies" listed on the page.
