After everything was arranged, Fang Cheng and Cheng Jiashu exchanged a glance.
The two walked side by side to the edge of the well.
Cheng Jiashu was the first to leap, his clothes tracing an arc in the moonlight as he disappeared into the dark well opening.
Fang Cheng followed closely, his legs slightly bent, creating a low whistling sound as he plunged straight to the well bottom.
Splat.
As his shoes touched the ground, Fang Cheng stood firmly, surveying the surroundings.
The air was filled with a damp, earthy smell and a musty odor.
Beneath his feet was a patch of wet mud mixed with rubble and a few unidentified dry bones, which crunched sharply underfoot.
The well bottom was much more spacious than expected, surrounded by moss-covered blue-brick walls.
A passage had been carved into the wall, wide enough for two people to walk side by side.
The pitch-black cave stretched like a giant beast’s esophagus, meandering down into the depths of the earth.
A faint gray mist swirled persistently in the darkness, like a living thing slinking along the ground, instinctively gathering upon sensing human presence.
The mist clinging to the skin felt like ice-cold water pouring down, provoking a bone-deep chill.
These were clearly the remnants of the Yin energy extracted from the earth’s veins, left here after the collapse of the Inner World.
Cheng Jiashu held the prepared glow stick in his hand and was the first to step into the passage.
The faint green halo barely illuminated three to five meters ahead.
Above them hung sharp stalactites, with cold droplets gathering at their tips.
Occasionally, drops fell into the puddle below, producing ethereal ticking sounds.
The stream-worn walls on either side were quite smooth, vaguely showing the sedimentary layers of silt.
This was evidently once the riverbed of an underground stream, dried up and artificially repurposed into a secret tunnel.
"The Feng Shui of this place is truly exceptional."
Cheng Jiashu looked around at the damp rock walls and said:
"West Mountain is inherently a place where Yin energy gathers, belonging to the Kun Yin position, the terrain storing wind and collecting water, while Ancient Locust Village is situated in a valley in the northwest corner, forming an excellent ’Yin embracing Yang’ corpse-raising scenario."
"Along with the natural riverbed passage at the well bottom, it creates an enormous Gathering Yin Array. That old monster, Jiang Chen, utilized these geographical advantages to gradually nurture an Inner World, hiding his true form so deeply."
Fang Cheng followed behind, avoiding a puddle, and casually asked:
"Didn’t you say before that Ancient Locust Village is where your Cheng Family’s Inheritance Secret Realm is located? How come you didn’t know there was a hidden path at the well bottom?"
Cheng Jiashu shook his head at the words and let out a sigh:
"Back then, our Cheng Family’s ancestors indeed established the Inheritance Secret Realm in Ancient Locust Village, thereby sustaining the family for a thousand years."
"But the entrance to that secret realm is not here; it’s actually in a concealed cave on the back mountain."
He paused, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes:
"Decades ago, due to various reasons, that secret realm’s space collapsed, and its entrance was long since blocked by rubble."
"Now it seems, all of this is most likely connected to Jiang Chen. After all... back then, our Cheng Family followed his ancestor’s guidance to these deep mountains and established our initial foundation."
Cheng Jiashu raised the glow stick in his hand and pointed it towards the deep passage ahead:
"This tunnel beneath the dried-up well, I didn’t know about it even after hanging around for a few days; it must have been his secret handiwork."
Fang Cheng surveyed the moss-covered stone walls, examining the earth’s vein’s path, and interjected:
"It seems that no matter whether it’s the recently collapsed Inner World or your Cheng Family’s Inheritance Secret Realm, they were actually founded based on this Gathering Yin Array."
"Exactly."
Cheng Jiashu turned sideways to avoid a string of water droplets dripping from the cave roof.
"That old monster occupied our Cheng Family’s territory and turned it into his personal lair, and today, we’ve just uncovered his entire setup."
As he said this, he suddenly halted his actions, swiftly turning around.
The ghostly green glow cast upon Cheng Jiashu’s face stripped away his usual nonchalance, revealing an especially solemn expression.
He looked at Fang Cheng, clasped his hands, and solemnly bowed:
"Fang Cheng, thank you this time. If it weren’t for your intervention, I might not have even been able to see that old monster, let alone avenge my Cheng Family’s decades-old blood feud."
In the narrow passage, only their overlapping breaths could be heard for a moment.
Fang Cheng looked at Cheng Jiashu, who was bowing in front of him, his mouth curving upward into a light smile.
He stepped forward, reached out to support Cheng Jiashu’s arm, and pulled him up with a casual tone:
"Alright, cut the formality. Jiang Chen and I had a grudge to settle; this old thing has bothered me multiple times. Even without your Cheng Family’s issues, I would have sooner or later peeled him and extracted his tendons, it’s just a convenient matter."
Having said that, he passed Cheng Jiashu, his broad back blocking out the advancing gray mist.
Fang Cheng lifted his chin, gesturing toward the depths of the passage:
"Let’s not delay; keep moving. I’m curious to see what goodies that old monster hid underground."
The two continued their conversation as they delved deeper along the passage.
The terrain sloped downward, and the surrounding gray mist grew denser.
They didn’t know how far they had walked when the passage suddenly opened up into a broad underground cavern’s end.
There lay a dark red Stone Gate, incongruously set into the gray-white rocky wall of the mountain.
The gate’s surface was weathered, covered in marks of erosion and chisel strikes.
