In the huge room, for a moment the only sound was Lin Fan typing on the keyboard. No one knew what Lin Fan was doing, but they could all see how focused he was—every bit of his attention was on the computer.
Facing this God of Slaughter, Joseph Wayne had been trembling at first. When he realized Lin Fan was a little too focused, then noticed Lin Fan’s gun lying off to the side, within arm’s reach for him, his courage started to grow.
No wonder he was a super tycoon—without some guts, how could he have built an empire? He began eyeing that gun, itching to try.
To be subdued by some nobody like this, he refused to accept it. He wanted to turn the tables, to control Lin Fan. As long as he got that gun in his hand, he could take back control.
Lin Fan might have really been too focused and didn’t notice Joseph Wayne’s little scheme. He kept his head down, hammering away at the keyboard, and he seemed to have reached a critical point, with no attention to spare.
It was Lucy who noticed Joseph Wayne and even met his eyes for a second.
That one glance made Lucy realize Joseph Wayne wanted to grab the gun!
Joseph Wayne also realized Lucy had seen through his intention—he couldn’t wait any longer!
Just as Lucy was about to open her mouth to warn Lin Fan, Joseph Wayne, gritting through the sharp pain in his shoulder and thigh, suddenly lunged out his hand, snatched up the gun, and immediately aimed it at Lin Fan.
"Don’t move!" Joseph Wayne barked.
Lucy had meant to warn Lin Fan, but seeing Joseph Wayne snatch the initiative, she grew desperately anxious.
Lin Fan, still typing, seemed only now to react, but it was already too late. He had no choice but to stop, raise his head, and look at Joseph Wayne.
Joseph Wayne stared at Lin Fan. "Hands up!"
Lin Fan obediently raised both hands.
"Asia boy, didn’t expect this, did you? You got too cocky," Joseph Wayne sneered.
Lin Fan said calmly, "What do you want?"
Joseph Wayne said, "Tell me, who the hell are you?"
Lin Fan said, "You want to know who I am? That’s simple. I’m your Grim Reaper."
Joseph Wayne snapped, "Kid, you’re the one staring down the barrel of a gun right now. Cut the tough talk and answer my question honestly!"
Lin Fan said, "And if I don’t answer, you’re going to pull the trigger?"
Joseph Wayne let out a cold laugh, swung the gun toward Lucy, and aimed at her. "I’ll start by blowing her brains out."
Staring into the dark muzzle, Lucy went pale with fright, her whole body shaking. She looked at Lin Fan in terror—was this how it all ended for her?
Lin Fan said, "Mr. Wayne, don’t be impulsive. Since you want me to talk, I’ll talk with you."
Joseph Wayne snorted. "Answer my question. Who are you?"
Lin Fan said, "I’m just an ordinary guy. Today I met Lucy at a bar. You know what she was doing there? After you ruined her, she became worthless to those kidnappers, so they sold her to the bar to work as a stripper. She was under the thumb of the bar’s underground crowd. If nothing unexpected happened, her life was basically over. All her misfortune comes from the appetites of beasts like you."
Joseph Wayne was unmoved. "If she’s supposed to be performing in the bar, why did she end up here?"
Lin Fan said, "I took her out of that bar. She told me what she’d been through."
Joseph Wayne said, "Then how did you track me down?"
This was what Joseph Wayne wanted to know most. He simply couldn’t figure out how Lin Fan had found him. Even if Lin Fan had rescued Lucy, there was no way she could know the man who destroyed her that night was him—his identity had been kept secret.
So how had Lin Fan followed the trail to him?
Lin Fan said, "Isn’t it obvious? I found the people who kidnapped her. Naturally, I learned who you are."
Joseph Wayne’s face changed. "They sold me out!" he snapped.
So it was the people behind the site who had betrayed him. It infuriated him. Now he finally knew how Lin Fan had found him. Once he dealt with Lin Fan, he’d go after the site operators. He’d suffered a huge loss this time, almost lost his life. The site was going to pay.
Lin Fan said, "Anything else you want to know?"
Joseph Wayne forced down his anger. "You barged in here with her to get revenge on me?"
Lin Fan said, "Yeah."
Joseph Wayne gave a cold laugh. "Afraid your little plan’s going to blow up in your face. Now, take out your phone, unlock it, and put it on the desk."
Lin Fan said, "What for?"
Joseph Wayne snorted. "Asia boy, you don’t think I’m that stupid, do you? You were recording just now. You want to get everything on camera, expose me, and ruin me. I’m not going to let you pull that off."
Lin Fan shook his head. "I went through a lot to get that evidence. I’m not letting you delete it."
Joseph Wayne snapped, "You want her to die right now, is that it? Don’t think I can’t bring myself to kill her. I played with her; I can kill her just as easily."
If he hadn’t brought it up, it would’ve been one thing. But the moment he did, Lucy’s fear turned into rage—fear and rage mixed together. That nightmarish memory surged back, her eyes reddened, and tears slid down her cheeks.
Lin Fan said, "Why don’t we make a deal? She and I both walk out of here alive, and you don’t touch the evidence on my phone. But if you’re willing to put down the gun of your own accord, I’ll spare your pathetic life. That way, even though you’re still going to be ruined and spend the rest of your days as a crippled has‑been, at least you’ll still be breathing."
Joseph Wayne was so enraged by his words that he felt blood rush to his head. Lin Fan was the one at gunpoint—how the hell did he still have the nerve to talk big?
"Die for me!"
Joseph Wayne pulled the trigger, aiming at Lucy.
"Huh?"
The young driver next to him blurted out in shock. Mr. Wayne was actually going to kill Lucy. His long-standing image as some righteous, upright man completely shattered. What stood there was a Devil in the flesh.
However...
To everyone’s surprise, even though Joseph Wayne pulled the trigger, there was no gunshot. He’d squeezed the trigger for nothing.
What the hell?
Joseph Wayne was stunned. Was the gun jammed?
He quickly squeezed the trigger several more times in a frenzy, but the result was the same—the gun simply wouldn’t fire!
Lin Fan smiled. "Don’t bother. There are no bullets. You didn’t really think I’d let you get your hands on a loaded gun, did you?"
Joseph Wayne’s face went white in an instant.
So Lin Fan had let him grab the gun on purpose? This was a damn sting operation!
"The bullets are right here," Lin Fan added, opening his palm. Two rounds lay quietly in his hand. "I’ll be taking that back."
The next second, Lin Fan chopped his hand down and snatched the gun from Joseph Wayne, then clicked the rounds into the magazine.
Seeing this, the rock weighing on Lucy’s heart instantly dropped. With Lin Fan here, she really never had to worry.
Bang!
The next second, Lin Fan had already pulled the trigger.
