Starting as the President of a Billionaire Group Chapter 1284 - 1259: Tears of Regret
Previously on Starting as the President of a Billionaire Group...
Originally, I thought Ye Chen was too afraid to come to my office because he couldn’t bring Uncle Qiang, but I was wrong.
Seeing the middle-aged man next to Ye Chen, Zhou Susu knew this man was Uncle Qiang.
"How can this be? Ye Chen, didn’t you say so?" Zhou Susu was at a loss for words.
"Captain Zhou, why are you so excited to see me?" Ye Chen teased.
"Ye Chen, didn’t you say..."
Before Zhou Susu could finish, Ye Chen smiled and asked, "Captain Zhou, what’s wrong?"
In fact, when she heard from the young policewoman that Ye Chen had arrived, Zhou Susu was planning to confront him, wanting to ask why he wouldn’t let Uncle Qiang turn himself in.
Just now, Ye Chen was pleading with her and even hung up the phone, but now he appeared in front of her with Uncle Qiang, leaving Zhou Susu a bit bewildered.
She didn’t quite understand what Ye Chen was thinking, why he said one thing but did another.
Since the lobby wasn’t a place to talk, Zhou Susu realized and said, "Ye Chen, let’s discuss in the office."
Under Zhou Susu’s guidance, Ye Chen and Uncle Qiang went to the office.
As soon as they entered the office, Uncle Qiang looked apologetically and said, "Captain Zhou, please don’t blame Mr. Ye; it’s all my fault. If it weren’t for my mother’s surgery, I would have already turned myself in. Mr. Ye kindly wanted me to spend more time with her, as there might not be another chance."
Hearing these words, Zhou Susu felt a pang in her heart.
She remembered Ye Chen saying that Uncle Qiang had agreed to help Zhang Rumei because he didn’t have money for his mother’s treatment.
Thinking of it this way, Uncle Qiang was a filial son, yet he ended up with such a fate.
But there’s nothing one can do; after all, the law does not permit leniency.
As long as the law is violated, no matter the reason, punishment is inevitable.
"Mr. Ye, Captain Zhou, words cannot express my gratitude. Please accept my bow." Uncle Qiang gave them a deep bow and then turned and left the office.
The reason Uncle Qiang spoke this way was because he knew that without Zhou Susu’s permission, he wouldn’t have been able to stay out as long as he did.
Zhou Susu had played a significant role, helping him a lot.
After Uncle Qiang left, Ye Chen and Zhou Susu didn’t speak.
After a while, seeing Ye Chen’s grim expression, Zhou Susu said, "Ye Chen, I’m sorry, I misjudged you. I thought you didn’t want to bring Uncle Qiang today."
"Susu, indeed I had such an intention, but our conversation was overheard by Uncle Qiang, so he insisted on coming, and I couldn’t stop him." Ye Chen said calmly.
Then Ye Chen sighed and continued, "Susu, you know, Uncle Qiang’s mother just had surgery today; I wanted him to spend more time with her, but he didn’t want to make it difficult for me, so he came."
Hearing this, Zhou Susu also felt some guilt and said, "Ye Chen, sorry, I didn’t consider it thoroughly."
"Never mind, it’s done; there’s nothing more to say. Captain Zhou, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be going." After Ye Chen finished, he turned to leave.
Zhou Susu didn’t try to stop Ye Chen. Although she felt guilty, she didn’t regret her actions.
She and Ye Chen each had her own standpoint, and it’s not about who’s right or wrong; neither of them was wrong.
Zhou Susu knew Ye Chen was angry, thinking she lacked compassion, but she had no choice; after all, capturing suspects is her duty as a police officer.
After Ye Chen left, Zhou Susu returned to her desk and busied herself again.
It was the first time she had seen Ye Chen angry, and she felt somewhat agitated.
Just then, there was another knock on the door.
Zhou Susu called out, "Come in."
The young policewoman from before walked in, looking at Zhou Susu anxiously and said, "Captain Zhou, Zhang Rumei wants to see you; she says she has something to tell you."
"Okay, I’ll be right over." Zhou Susu nodded in agreement.
As soon as the young policewoman heard Zhou Susu’s response, she promptly left the room.
She had seen the grim expression on Zhou Susu’s face again as she entered the office.
The young policewoman even felt that today was truly unlucky; why does she always knock on the office door when Captain Zhou is angry?
But this was her job, so there was nothing she could do; she just needed to be more careful next time.
This young policewoman was good at self-comforting; the tension and fear she had felt earlier quickly dissipated, and she even managed to smile.
Zhou Susu walked into the interrogation room with a puzzled expression; she didn’t know what Zhang Rumei still wanted to say to her.
But since Zhang Rumei wanted to see her, she had to come, given she was responsible for the case.
At this moment, Zhang Rumei was already seated in the interrogation chair. Upon seeing Zhou Susu, she looked grateful and said, "Captain Zhou, thank you for coming to see me."
Zhang Rumei knew that the case had been interrogated; everything that needed asking had been asked. Besides, the officers who worked with Zhou Susu on the case had spoken to her several times. In principle, Zhou Susu could refuse to see her.
But seeing Zhou Susu come, Zhang Rumei felt truly touched.
"Zhang Rumei, what do you want with me?" Zhou Susu asked expressionlessly.
"Officer Zhou, I want to talk to you about my sister and I. I know it doesn’t relate to the case anymore, but I still hope you will listen to me." Zhang Rumei began.
Actually, Zhou Susu had heard Zhang Xia talk about the sisters before, and she knew the ins and outs, the love and hate involved, but she decided to listen again.
"Zhang Rumei, go ahead, but everything you say will be recorded, and if there’s any falsehood, you’ll be held legally responsible." Zhou Susu warned.
"Officer Zhou, rest assured, I’m telling the truth," Zhang Rumei quickly assured.
Thus, in the interrogation room, Zhou Susu, and another officer listened to Zhang Rumei talk for over two hours.
The other officer had grown impatient listening, but for Zhou Susu’s sake, he kept his composure.
From start to finish, Zhou Susu didn’t interrupt Zhang Rumei; she just wanted her to let out everything she was holding inside, considering it a kind of release.
Indeed, Zhang Rumei’s story matched perfectly with what Zhang Xia had told.
"Officer Zhou, I’ve finished. Thank you for taking the time to listen to me," Zhang Rumei said gratefully.
"Zhang Rumei, what you said, your mother had already told me. She regrets not stopping you, leading to such an outcome for you two sisters." Zhou Susu sighed.
"Officer Zhou, I’ve let my mother down, and I’ve let my sister down. It’s all because of my foolishness that things ended this way."
