Chapter 1176: Chapter 1151: An Angry Song Xiaoxiao
Witnessing Ye Chen's considerate gesture as he held Song Xiaoxiao, hushed discussions rippled through the surrounding crowd.
“That guy is truly admirable, with his good looks and affection for his girlfriend.”
“To be his girlfriend would undoubtedly be a life of bliss.”
“If only I had a boyfriend like him.”
“Indeed, my most fervent birthday wish this year is to encounter someone of his caliber.”
Naturally, these sentiments were voiced by the single young women present.
Even those accompanied by their boyfriends couldn't help but cast envious glances, inevitably comparing the men beside them to Ye Chen – finding them lacking in both handsomeness and thoughtfulness.
A pang of regret surfaced in some; a man like Ye Chen represented the epitome of every girl's ideal partner.
Song Xiaoxiao, catching wind of the surrounding chatter, displayed a discernible air of satisfaction.
She gracefully disengaged from Ye Chen's embrace, instead turning to face the onlookers with a confident smile, a touch of pride evident in her demeanor.
Appearance held significant weight for young women, and Ye Chen had effortlessly fulfilled that desire.
Proceeding along their path, Ye Chen kept Song Xiaoxiao close as they walked.
Upon reaching a vacant bench, Ye Chen gently settled the young woman onto it before inquiring with tender concern, “Xiaoxiao, did your foot sustain an injury?”
“Ye Chen, no, please don't worry,” Song Xiaoxiao reassured him with a smile.
“Understood. Let’s rest here for a moment, and afterward, we can experience another attraction,” Ye Chen responded, a sigh of relief escaping him.
A sprain or worse would have necessitated an immediate departure from their fun, forcing them to head home.
Ye Chen understood that Song Xiaoxiao harbored a deep aversion to returning to a place that offered no solace.
Song Tao, her paternal figure, showed no genuine affection, viewing her merely as a pawn for personal gain.
“Ye Chen, it’s quite warm; I feel like having some ice cream,” Song Xiaoxiao remarked, fanning herself with her hand.
Upon hearing her request, Ye Chen scanned the vicinity and soon noticed a refreshment stand.
“Xiaoxiao, remain here for a moment; I shall go and procure it for you.”
With that, he set off towards the shop.
Not long had Ye Chen departed when a group of fashionably dressed young women approached.
“Look, isn’t that Song Xiaoxiao?”
“Indeed. What brings her here? It appears she’s anticipating someone’s arrival.”
“Let’s go over and engage in conversation with her.”
The girls conversed amongst themselves as they made their way toward Song Xiaoxiao.
“Xiaoxiao, what are you doing here?”
Song Xiaoxiao, who had been engrossed in her thoughts with her head bowed, was startled by the sudden voice.
She looked up, recognizing the girl before her, and replied, “Xiaomei, I’m here awaiting a friend.”
Song Xiaoxiao answered politely.
The girls exchanged knowing glances, clearly inferring that the “friend” Song Xiaoxiao mentioned was, in all likelihood, her boyfriend.
They were also intensely curious about the identity and disposition of Song Xiaoxiao's affluent beau.
“Xiaoxiao, we’re rather weary from walking. Might we join you for a rest?” inquired another young woman.
These individuals were, in fact, Song Xiaoxiao’s roommates, with whom she generally maintained a amicable relationship.
However, due to Song Xiaoxiao's privileged background, a subtle undercurrent of envy persisted among them.
Furthermore, they harbored a keen interest in her boyfriend.
Song Xiaoxiao, fully aware of her roommates' underlying motivations, nodded with a smile and acquiesced, “Of course, please have a seat.”
The group settled down and resumed their casual conversation.
At this juncture, Ye Chen reappeared, approaching with two ice cream cones in hand.
Observing the cluster of girls engaged in conversation with Song Xiaoxiao on the bench, he deduced they were her acquaintances.
“Xiaoxiao, this is for you,” Ye Chen announced, extending an ice cream cone towards Song Xiaoxiao.
One of the girls, identified as Xiaomei, displayed a less-than-pleased reaction and remarked, “Xiaoxiao, it doesn’t feel quite right to be eating while we merely watch.”
Had their rapport with Song Xiaoxiao been genuinely strong, such a comment would likely not have been made; Ye Chen sensed an underlying tension in their interactions.
Just as Ye Chen considered procuring additional ice cream, Song Xiaoxiao’s response elicited his silent admiration.
Song Xiaoxiao responded with a laugh, “My boyfriend bought this for me. If you possess the means, you could similarly ask your boyfriend to get one for you.”
Her retort was imbued with both pride and a touch of defiance.
Xiaomei, taken aback by Song Xiaoxiao's unexpected assertion, found herself momentarily speechless.
Ye Chen understood that this uncharacteristic behavior stemmed from Song Xiaoxiao's recent distress over Song Tao's insistence on marrying her off to Zhao Kai, which had left her feeling agitated.
Before the other girl could formulate a reply, Song Xiaoxiao stood up, gently pulling Ye Chen along, and declared, “Ye Chen, let’s depart.”
As they walked away, Xiaomei remained, a look of bewilderment on her face.
“Song Xiaoxiao, just you wait and see,” Xiaomei uttered indignantly, stomping her foot.
Ye Chen and Song Xiaoxiao proceeded to enjoy a variety of thrilling amusement park rides, including the pirate ship, roller coaster, and log flume.
They continued their explorations until the late afternoon before finally exiting the park.
Initially, Ye Chen proposed taking Song Xiaoxiao out for dinner, but she expressed a preference to return to their school to study, citing an upcoming examination.
Upon their return to the dormitory, Song Xiaoxiao found Xiaomei and two other roommates already present.
As Song Xiaoxiao entered, one of the girls immediately inquired, “Xiaoxiao, what is your boyfriend’s name? He’s exceptionally handsome.”
“When did you two start dating? Spill the beans!” another girl interjected.
These two girls, Liu Xin and Zhang Rui, were incredibly fond of gossip.
“His name is Ye Chen. We’ve known each other for quite some time,” Song Xiaoxiao replied with a smile.
“He must be a big boss of some company, or perhaps holds a high-level management position,” Liu Xin inquired further.
Ye Chen's attire and confident demeanor suggested his profession was likely quite impressive.
Song Xiaoxiao, however, shook her head. “No, he’s actually just a delivery driver.”
She stated Ye Chen's occupation openly and without shame, as Song Xiaoxiao saw no disgrace in being a delivery driver.
Ye Chen earned his living through honest work, never resorting to theft or any illicit means, and there was certainly nothing to be embarrassed about.
“Ah, so he’s truly a delivery driver,” Liu Xin and Zhang Rui exclaimed in unison, their faces falling with clear disappointment.
Li Mei, who had remained silent until now, suddenly interjected, “What’s the point of being handsome? A delivery driver works tirelessly, but how much can he really earn in a month? Xiaoxiao, I honestly advise you to end things with him and find someone whose social standing matches yours. I can bet your family wouldn’t approve of you being with him either.”
A distinct look of disdain colored Li Mei’s expression as she spoke.
This remark completely ignited Song Xiaoxiao’s anger; her expression turned icy as she fixed her gaze upon Li Mei.
Li Mei was genuinely taken aback by the change in Song Xiaoxiao's demeanor.
In all the time she had known Song Xiaoxiao, she had never witnessed such an intense reaction from her.
She sensed that the Song Xiaoxiao before her today was decidedly different from her usual self.
