Ye Chen gently caressed Song Xiaoxiao’s head and murmured, "Silly girl, this is what I should do. If anything like this happens again, you must tell me. I’ll chase the flies away for you."
Song Xiaoxiao nodded her head, exited the car, and headed toward the school entrance.
Ye Chen watched as Song Xiaoxiao passed through the school gate before he drove off.
After some driving, Ye Chen made his way back to the Hua Mansion.
Noticing the lights illuminated inside, Ye Chen realized Su Wanyi must be home.
As expected, upon pushing the door open, Ye Chen spotted Su Wanyi seated there.
"Ye Chen, you’re back," Su Wanyi greeted him with a warm smile.
She rose to her feet, approached Ye Chen, and pulled him into a tight embrace.
It had truly been ages since the pair last met, and their longing for each other burned fiercely.
Ye Chen likewise encircled the girl in his arms.
"Wanyi, I missed you so much," Ye Chen declared with deep passion.
"Hmph, if you missed me, why didn’t you come to find me? Did you forget about me because you were with other girls?" Su Wanyi huffed, feigning anger.
"How could I, no way," Ye Chen responded hastily.
Lately, he had been quite occupied, and since Su Wanyi was such a capable and self-reliant woman, Ye Chen seldom intruded on her space.
He only showed up by her side whenever Su Wanyi required his assistance.
"Why wouldn’t I know? I know you had dinner with another girl at a western restaurant tonight," Su Wanyi gazed at Ye Chen and remarked.
Ye Chen grinned and replied, "Wanyi, I have to thank you today. Thank you for helping me out."
"You don’t think I was meddling, do you? I knew you’d have your way, but this was the most direct method," Su Wanyi replied with a playful grin.
"Not at all. I’m not someone who doesn’t appreciate kindness," Ye Chen affirmed.
He then pressed on, "Wanyi, did you go to the Vienna Restaurant tonight?"
Ye Chen had long pondered how Su Wanyi learned of his presence there and the trouble he faced.
The sole explanation was that Su Wanyi had been at the restaurant then and overheard their exchange by chance.
"I wasn’t there. It was my assistant. She was there with friends and happened to see you. She overheard your conversation with those people and told me about it, so I came up with a solution. I can’t let anyone bully my husband," Su Wanyi detailed for Ye Chen.
"But the assistant saw a pretty girl by your side and asked me a bunch of questions. I told her that all the girls Ye Chen knows are exceptional," Su Wanyi added.
A cheerful smile lingered on Su Wanyi’s face throughout, showing no hint of jealousy.
Ye Chen knew Su Wanyi’s character well and directly stated, "The girl you mentioned is named Song Xiaoxiao, a university student."
He followed up with an apology, "Wanyi, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about Song Xiaoxiao right away."
"Honey, it’s okay. Only a capable man would have many women around him, as long as she’s true to you," Su Wanyi assured him smilingly.
Ye Chen thought Su Wanyi was remarkably tolerant, aiding him without qualms about other women near him.
"Alright, Ye Chen, I’m tired too. Go take a shower, and let’s rest early," Su Wanyi said, releasing her hold on Ye Chen.
A ton of events had unfolded that day, leaving Ye Chen somewhat weary as well.
Particularly after searching for Zhao Ziwei for ages and single-handedly confronting numerous thugs.
Ye Chen swiftly headed to the bathroom for a shower, then joined Su Wanyi to rest in the bedroom.
Once in bed, Ye Chen swiftly drifted into profound slumber.
On the following day, Ye Chen slept in until nine o’clock in the morning.
Su Wanyi had already departed by then; she had a morning meeting and left ahead of schedule.
Seeing Ye Chen still asleep, she couldn’t bear to disturb him.
Ye Chen freshened up, enjoyed breakfast, and then drove over to the hospital.
The nurses’ eyes sparkled with excitement upon Ye Chen’s arrival, like hungry wolves spotting game.
Ye Chen was accustomed to it by now; after all, his striking handsomeness drew such attention.
"Mr. Ye, you’re here. Miss Zhao is in a good mood today," one nurse beamed.
"Thank you for your hard work, miss nurse," Ye Chen responded courteously.
Just then, Ye Chen’s phone buzzed. He checked and saw Ah-Bao was calling.
"Bro, I’ve taken care of everything you asked me to. Don’t worry," Ah-Bao assured over the line.
"Alright, thank you for your hard work," Ye Chen replied smilingly.
After hanging up, Ye Chen proceeded to the ward and observed Zhao Ziwei was indeed cheerful today.
"Ye Chen, you’re here," Zhao Ziwei smiled upon spotting him.
"Ziwei, how are you feeling?"
"Ye Chen, I’m sorry. I want to apologize for what happened yesterday," Zhao Ziwei said, bowing her head.
Ye Chen sensed something off about her demeanor today. Usually, she would shoo him out like yesterday, so why was she apologizing now?
“It’s okay, I didn’t take it to heart,” Ye Chen replied with a smile.
A puzzled look crossed his face as he asked, “Ziwei, did something happen?”
Zhao Ziwei, her face lighting up with joy, explained, “Ye Chen, it’s like this. Today, when Director Zhang checked my wound, he said it’s healing nicely and will be fine in less than a week.”
Ye Chen’s brows furrowed upon hearing those words. He hadn’t anticipated the doctors inspecting the injury so soon.
Injuries usually don’t recover at such a swift rate, and he feared the truth might come out.
A touch of disappointment colored Zhao Ziwei’s voice as she asked, “Ye Chen, I thought you’d be happy for me. Why do you have that expression?”
She had expected Ye Chen to match her excitement over the good news, but instead, he stayed with his frown intact.
“No, Ziwei, you’ve got it wrong. I’m definitely happy for you. It’s just that I recalled the call from earlier,” Ye Chen explained, coming up with a quick excuse.
Zhao Ziwei took his word for it right away.
“What call?” she pressed eagerly.
“A weird one—some guy saying he wanted revenge,” Ye Chen detailed.
Looking anxious, Zhao Ziwei questioned, “Weren’t the people who kidnapped me already caught? Why would anyone seek revenge on you now?”
“Perhaps a few accomplices slipped away,” Ye Chen answered offhandedly.
It wasn’t a complete fabrication; the day before, someone had indeed come for payback over the flat-headed man, but Ye Chen had already dealt with it.
“Ziwei, no need to fret. Just concentrate on getting better. I’ll take care of this,” Ye Chen assured her confidently.
Although Zhao Ziwei’s facial wounds were steadily improving and the would-be avengers had turned into his followers, one remaining concern still plagued Ye Chen, giving him a pounding headache.
