Chapter 634: Ten Months Beyond the Door

Leon emerged into afternoon light and the smell of turned earth.

The contrast disoriented him for a moment. Jade Moon Palace was cold stone, sea wind, and the constant presence of hundreds of cultivators. His dimensional world was warm and familiar. A work bell rang somewhere down the slope, and cultivated fields stretched green beneath a clear sky.

Seraphine crossed the room before he had fully steadied himself.

She caught his collar and began opening his robe.

"It is healed," Leon said.

"That is the second time you have greeted me with that sentence."

Her hands stopped over the faint discoloration along his left side. The original wound had closed, but less than a week had not been enough to erase every trace of the damaged junctions beneath it.

"What happened?" she asked.

"A cultivation route tore during a duel."

"A cultivation route," Seraphine repeated. "You fought someone while using the unfinished technique you told me was unsafe at high volume."

"Yes."

She stared at him for two seconds, then pointed toward a chair.

"Sit down and explain everything. Do not use the voice you use when reporting damaged supplies."

Ira entered from the terrace while Leon was sitting.

"One month," she said, dropping sideways into another chair. "We leave you alone for one month, and you find the strongest personal disciple in the Palace. Did you ask for directions, or did he come looking for you?"

"He challenged me."

"Of course he did. You have a face that encourages poor decisions." Ira looked at Seraphine. "How badly was he hurt?"

"He is about to tell us," Seraphine said, "if no one interrupts him again."

Leon gave them the complete account. He explained Wei’s restriction, the delayed crescents, the affinity transition that failed, and the false moon that shattered the seal. He described the five-affinity circulation and the damage it caused. He also told them that the Primordial Void Heart had processed the lunar mana invading his body, while the Divinordial Heart and its holy energy remained inactive throughout the duel.

Vyra appeared at the window midway through the explanation. She listened with her arms folded and waited until he finished.

"Mid Void Immortal," she said. "Two major realms above the cultivation you displayed."

"Yes."

"And the strongest personal disciple of a major sect, not another hired attacker."

"Also yes."

"Could you defeat him again if he remained clear-headed and used his full cultivation from the beginning?"

Leon considered the question honestly.

"A prolonged fight would be far more difficult. The forbidden art made him stronger, but it also trapped him inside one pattern. I found its structure because he could no longer change it. Against a clear-headed Mid Void Immortal Wei Zhaoran, I would need a different answer."

Vyra nodded. "Good. I wanted to know whether you understood the distinction. What else did the fight teach us about this world?"

"That Jade Moon Palace’s strongest personal disciple reached Mid Void Immortal at ninety-one, and that the elders above him are separated by more than cultivation alone. My master could have ended the danger herself once the spectators were protected. She allowed me the chance to dismantle it because I told her I could."

Loriel had remained quiet. She sat beside Leon and held one hand near his side, her attention sinking beneath the surface.

"There is still strain here," she said softly. "And along the front. The damage is closed, but the channels remember its shape."

"Ji Liansu said it would fade with time."

"She is right." Loriel allowed a gentle current of Life energy to enter him. "I cannot erase it, but I can make the recovery easier."

Leon waited until she looked up.

"It was preventable," he told her. "I promised all of you that I would use safeguards, then accepted a duel while the Scripture was incomplete. You are allowed to be angry."

"I’m not angry."

"That is worse," Ira said.

"I know," Loriel murmured, returning her attention to his side.

Seraphine did not release the matter so easily. "The next time you test it against someone capable of killing you, I expect to know beforehand."

"That is fair."

"I was not negotiating."

Despite her tone, some of the tension left her shoulders.

Leon spent the rest of the afternoon examining what more than ten accelerated months had accomplished.

[Seraphine — Peak Foundation Establishment]

[Ira — Peak Foundation Establishment]

[Vyra — Peak Foundation Establishment]

[Loriel — Peak Foundation Establishment]

All four had formed genuine local foundations. Their personal Classes remained exactly what they had always been: Seraphine was a Stormlight Sword Saint, Ira a Calamity Flame Lancer, Vyra a Pyran Flame Sovereign, and Loriel a Child of Life. Cultivation had not replaced or competed with those paths. It refined the bodies, channels, and energy control supporting them.

Their previous progression had advanced faster than their internal structures could fully accommodate. Peak Foundation Establishment had begun closing that gap.

Leon asked for demonstrations rather than four complete spars.

Seraphine drew her sword and cut once. Stormlight traveled along the blade in a controlled taper instead of flaring outward. Lightning and Light moved together through a foundation built around speed, protection, and precise killing. The strike reached farther than her older attacks while consuming less power.

Ira compressed Fire into a narrow line along her spear and drove it through a prepared slab of stone. The weapon left a clean circular opening instead of exploding the entire slab. The destructive force had not weakened; it had learned where to go.

Vyra’s demonstration was less visible. Her flame settled around her in a deep, steady pressure suited to holding a battlefield and coordinating others. She maintained it without the waste Leon remembered from her earlier power.

Loriel led him to the quarantine plot. The Earthmarrow fern had grown four new fronds, and the soil had darkened for two paces around it.

"Foundation Establishment," Loriel said, sounding embarrassed by her own success. "Stable circulation makes it easier to understand what the plant needs."

"That is not the only reason it grew."

"No," she admitted. "But it helped."

Leon crouched beside the fern and examined the healthy new growth.

He had given them nearly three outside months because he believed they would need more than two years inside to reach a safe stopping point. They had achieved his real objective in less than half that time. Their local cultivation signatures were stable, their foreign energy structures no longer stood exposed, and each could pass naturally as an unusual Foundation Establishment cultivator.

They had done it through months of work he had not witnessed.

Pride came first. Regret followed more quietly. For him, their separation had lasted little more than a month. They had lived almost a year without him.

Seraphine came to stand beside him. "Is something wrong?"

"No. The opposite." Leon rose. "You reached the target far earlier than I expected. There is no reason to keep you here for the rest of the schedule simply because I once guessed you would need it."

Ira leaned on her spear. "Does that mean what I think it means?"

"It means we prepare your identities properly, and then you come with me."

Loriel looked toward the place where the passage usually opened. Vyra was already considering the practical problems. Seraphine only watched Leon, as though waiting to make sure he meant it.

"The waiting is almost over," he said.
