Chapter 632: To Unmake a False Moon
The suppression seal failed in stages.
Wei fought it with both hands locked around his sword, but the false moon had already connected to his Lunar Sword Body. The art pulled power from him, his body amplified it, and the seal stood between two forces that were no longer listening to their owner.
If Wei stopped now, the gathered lunar energy would collapse into his own channels.
The second crack opened, followed by a third. Then the suppression came apart, releasing Wei’s true cultivation in three heavy waves.
[Wei Zhaoran — Mid Void Immortal]
The arena barrier groaned.
Ji Liansu moved immediately. A pale curtain rose outside the original barrier, separating the arena from the terrace, while two elders drove their authority into the formation pillars. Another elder ordered the nearest rows back. The disciples retreated without argument as the second barrier hardened between them and the false moon.
Leon caught Ji Liansu’s gaze through the layered formations. Her hand was raised, ready to pull him out.
The lunar art had wound itself through the original barrier. Its light ran down the pillars and into the containment formation, using the arena as part of its own structure. Tearing Leon out would save him, but it would not save Wei or prevent the trapped lunar power from detonating.
Leon shook his head once.
Ji Liansu’s expression did not change. The outer barrier brightened until the retreating disciples were protected, but she allowed Leon several more breaths to act.
He had wanted a real test for the Scripture. That no longer mattered. The false moon had to be dismantled from inside before it destroyed Wei and the arena with him.
The advantage Leon had built disappeared.
Wei’s sword did not merely become faster. Inside the false moon’s territory, every reflection became a place from which a sword might emerge. Ice formed in the air as suspended sheets, turning and catching silver light. Moonlight distorted distance until attacks arrived from positions Wei’s body had never occupied.
Space saved Leon from the first three strikes.
The fourth opened his shoulder. The fifth tore through his defense and drove him across the frozen arena.
Leon regained his footing and circulated more mana. The unfinished route protested at once. Every affinity now passed through it at a volume it had never been designed to carry. One junction tore in his upper chest, then another beneath it. Blood entered his mouth, and his breathing grew heavy.
[Circulation strain: severe]
[Junction damage: 3 confirmed]
At equal cultivation, Leon’s body, affinities, and foundation had placed him far above Wei’s expectations. None of that erased the difference between Peak Golden Core and Mid Void Immortal. Wei was also a genius whose strength surpassed his nominal realm. For several exchanges, neither could gain a decisive advantage: Wei’s territory and swordsmanship prevented Leon from advancing, while Leon’s body and Space affinity denied Wei a killing blow.
The stalemate was already costing Leon more.
Wei drove him toward the western pillar with a sequence that no longer depended on delayed crescents. Three reflected blades attacked from separate angles while the real sword remained held at Wei’s side. Leon folded away from the first, blocked the second with Ice, and let the third scrape across his ribs because defending it would have exposed his throat. Wei’s actual blade arrived through the flash of pain.
Leon caught the edge between two spatial layers. The impact still forced him to one knee. He released the trapped sword before the layers collapsed and rolled beneath a sheet of airborne ice as it snapped shut where his head had been.
Wei gave him no pause. That relentless control was what separated him from the Void Immortals Leon had killed before. Those cultivators had possessed higher realms. Wei knew how to make every fragment of his realm matter.
He opened the Primordial Void Heart.
No light appeared, and his aura did not change. The lunar mana penetrating his defenses simply stopped accumulating inside him. The Heart separated the unstable portions, refined what it could, and returned a fraction to his circulation as usable mana.
It did not make him immune to Wei’s art. It gave him enough time to solve it.
Leon had continued switching affinities as he always had: Lightning for speed, Ice for stability, Space for movement. Each transition forced one current out before the next could enter, and the repeated changes were tearing the incomplete route apart.
So he stopped switching.
He opened the neutral center and brought all five affinities into one continuous circulation.
Pain ripped through his channels. For an instant, the competing currents threatened to tear the route open from within. Ice stabilized the flow first. Lightning moved inside it, providing speed without entering as a separate surge. Light spread through the territory and mapped the false moon’s reflections. Darkness erased the paths that existed only as illusions. Space showed him which distances were real.
The currents settled.
For eleven breaths, the false moon stopped looking like an overwhelming domain. Leon could see how it worked.
Every reflected sword drew power from another. Destroying one allowed the moon to rebuild it through the next connection, but each connection possessed a junction. Leon had spent the last month learning how junctions failed.
He advanced.
Darkness swallowed the first reflection. Light exposed the connection behind it, and Lightning broke the timing before the false moon could refill the gap. Ice caught the released lunar mana and prevented it from exploding. Space redirected the collapse toward the empty center of the arena.
Leon repeated the sequence.
Silver fragments separated from the false moon and dissolved while falling. More junctions appeared as the territory weakened, and Leon broke them without allowing the cycle to repair itself. From beyond the reinforced barriers, it looked as though he were peeling the moon apart one piece at a time.
Wei felt the technique collapsing. His eyes no longer tracked Leon properly, and the forbidden art drove him toward the only conclusion it still understood.
He gathered everything into a final sword strike.
Leon crossed the remaining distance through Space. He arrived inside the arc of the blade, caught its flat with one palm, and placed his other hand against Wei’s chest.
Then he severed the final connection between Wei and the false moon.
The domain collapsed.
Every reflection vanished, the frost began receding from the barrier, and Wei’s sword rang against the stone. For one breath, he remained standing.
Then the backlash reversed through his channels.
Wei’s knees gave way. Leon caught him before he hit the ground.
Through the contact between them, the Primordial Void Heart drew out the lunar energy tearing through Wei’s meridians. It could not undo every injury, but it removed enough unstable power to prevent the backlash from reaching his foundation.
The watching disciples saw Leon stabilize a defeated opponent with extraordinary mana control. Neither they nor the elders detected the Heart itself.
The last pieces of the false moon dissolved above the ruined arena. Leon remained standing despite the blood covering his side and the damage inside his channels, supporting the man who had nearly killed him.
A Supreme Elder descended through the outer barrier.
He went to Wei first.
Leon expected nothing else.
