SSS Awakening: Rebirth of the Strongest Vampire God Chapter 776 The King of the Swamp

Or at least that's what he planned. Currently, he was already collecting his 20th blood fragment. He peeled away a small bug that was sucking the life force of a tree. "This one is definitely just another variation of that fish." He shook his head and put the bug away in his soul space.
After the lizard and the fish, he managed to get his hands on a few more interesting creatures. Some had managed to bring out some aspect of the primordial bloodline, but most hadn't even awakened the bloodline yet. They lived a very normal, insignificant life.
"My liege… is this really okay?" Little Red asked worriedly. "You decided to return to our world a while back, but we are still out here hunting for bloodline fragments…"
Damon answered half-heartedly as if his mind was elsewhere. "I know. This is the last one. We will definitely get back after this."
In the beginning, he did decide to quit while he was ahead, but he couldn't shake the gut feeling he had. He felt as if he pushed more and more, he was bound to run into something heaven-breaking.
Moreover, there were thousands and thousands of bloodline threads. He had grabbed only a handful so far. It was still not significant enough for anyone to notice anything.
In fact, he felt as if he could even grab an entire thousand of these things and it would still go unnoticed. That was not the problem.
Rather, the bigger question now was whether these fragments meant anything at all? Was there even any point in gathering so many of these? What if they were absolute shit and he went back home without anything to show for?
What if he combined all of these trash fragments and his bloodline glowed like a big red light for all those who were hunting devourers? Then they would all come for him, and he would have gained nothing at all!
Damon felt as if he was going in circles. His mind was a mess, and in the end, no matter how he thought about it, it was abundantly clear that he couldn't go back home without actually facing a stronger opponent.
Even then, it could be a hit or a miss. There was no point in getting another strong bloodline which did the same thing as what he was already capable of doing. He needed something complementary to his abilities and there was simply no way he could guess which one did what unless he actually started facing beings stronger or on par with him.
Thinking about this, Damon continued hunting the weaker bloodline fragments. In the blink of an eye he ended up taking a whole thousand creatures as hostages. His soul space was brimming with weird beings.
However, Damon did not feel satisfied at all. This was just his shot in the dark. It could 100% fail and he wouldn't be surprised. In fact, he was definitely going to fail 100%.
"Maybe I should have them fight each other and see which one survives? Okay. that's a shit idea. Not all of them are awakened. I need to awaken them first to bring out their full potential. Then maybe I can have a free for all and wait for the winner?" Damon mulled over many possible things he could do but he was just not satisfied with anything.
"Alright. Enough with this nonsense. I need to get serious now. Otherwise, I am just wasting time." He sucked in a big breath and then logged into the bloodline network again. But this time he started focussing on somewhat stronger ones. As for which bloodline fragment did what, he would only have to experience and find out.
"Fuck it. Here goes nothing." Damon picked a stronger bloodline thread and teleported to it. The next second, the world around him changed and he arrived at what seemed to be a swamp, except the whole world had the same type of dark, stagnant water stretching in every direction.
The ground beneath Damon's feet was soft, barely holding together, and every step released slow bubbles of trapped gas that rose to the surface with a faint, sickening pop, adding to the miasma.
Damon smiled. There was poison everywhere and the miasma had already given him several notifications. It looked like not only will he have home ground advantage in this battle but he would also be going home with new upgrades to his Nine Million Poison body.
As he was relishing the sweet, almost intoxicating flow of poison seeping into his body, all of a sudden, the swamp started churning.
"Incoming." Damon licked his lips and shot up into the air. All his opponents before this were weak and pitiful but this one… he could already feel it. A strong and powerful aura was coming for him at an incredible speed.
A long, violent trench carved itself through the dark water as something beneath surged forward with terrifying momentum. The stagnant world that had moments ago felt heavy and sluggish was now alive with motion, the miasma twisting upward in spirals as if drawn by an unseen force.
Damon hovered just above it, cloak of blood energy faintly flickering around him, his eyes fixed on the path of destruction racing toward his position.
"Finally!" he murmured.
This was not one of the broken, incomplete creatures he had been collecting. This was something that had survived long enough to grow… something that had claimed the top place in this world.
The swamp erupted. A massive shape burst forth, its body tearing through the surface with such force that the surrounding water was blasted outward in waves. It was enormous, far larger than anything Damon had encountered so far and it was surprisingly a humanoid!
For a brief instant, Damon thought he was looking at a giant man rising from the swamp. It had two arms, two legs, a torso, even the vague outline of a head. But the resemblance ended there. The face was something in between snake and a man. It stared at Damon for a second before blasting forward.
