"Remarkable," Damon pondered silently, his gaze steady amid the flowing crowd. Next, he must locate a guild member, ideally a prominent figure. He pulled up the local chat and skimmed its messages. Obtaining diverse intel on the guild came effortlessly.
The Northern Frontier guild showed no inclination to mask its influence. The city itself functioned largely as the guild's domain, with every aspect managed by the Northern Frontier guild. Consequently, Damon faced no necessity to track them down. He simply had to tune in.
He lingered in a nearby tavern briefly, yet worthwhile clues eluded him. Folks buzzed about dungeon assaults and quests in the abyssal realms, but scant talk touched on vital affairs. A more prestigious assembly was what he sought.
Damon understood precisely the step he needed to take. He had intended to reserve this for a weightier purpose, yet time pressed urgently, so he proceeded anyway.
Damon shut his eyes and extended his awareness to the faint strand of blood essence lingering in the golden heir's form from the Niera City Blood Hall clash. Remarkably, the Blood Mark endured unscathed over such duration.
Regrettably, the individual appeared positioned deep within an abyssal zone.
"No way. I'm not venturing there right now." Damon promptly retracted his blood sense. He then probed the two additional guild leaders involved in that fray—the fiery-haired one and the sorceress who had hexed him.
Surprisingly, the fiery-haired leader wasn't present in the game realm. Or maybe he occupied a spot beyond Damon's blood sense range. He could have even purged the blood wisp? Regardless of the cause, sensing him proved futile.
This narrowed Damon's options to a single prospect: the sorceress, known as the Rune Priestess, leader of the Southern Vanguard. He attempted to pinpoint her position, and a prompt response came. By chance, she lay close by, merely a handful of cities distant.
Damon recognized that spot well. She occupied a demonic shrine. Given the fiery-haired one's absence from the game or unknown whereabouts, the moment was ideal for approaching her.
Damon departed the tavern stealthily and made his way to the teleportation hub. Within moments, he stood before the demonic temple. He infiltrated the structure under Stealth, but shortly after, a furious tone echoed forth.
"What are you doing here?"
Damon grinned. He dropped his Stealth, manifesting as the ostentatious fiery-haired leader. "Can't a guy drop by to see his alluring priestess?"
Viola fixed him with a glare before pivoting to depart. She proceeded into the temple's depths, where several figures had assembled. "Why show up now? Aren't you supposed to be conquering more lands? Or have you abandoned the event?"
Damon hummed idly. "Pfft. What's even the use?" He idly traced the runic etchings adorning the temple's walls. Mimicking the fiery-haired leader's mannerisms and persona drew from the abundant rumors circulating about him, which were plentiful.
"What do you mean, what's the use? Have you lost interest in the alliance?" Viola's tone carried clear irritation. "I warned them early on that relying on a type like you was folly, and you're confirming it now."
Damon let out a sigh. "What, are you my fiery stepmother? Just drop it. I'm handling matters. No reason to fuss so much. Care for a drink? I stumbled on some exquisite wine lately." Viola snorted dismissively. She offered no further reply and advanced to the temple's core chamber, where robed individuals encircled a cluster of villagers.
"Whoa, what's this about? Back on another killing rampage?" Viola stayed mute once more. She merely gestured to one of the robed attendants, triggering the rite at once. The floor's inscribed runes ignited sequentially. The central villagers froze as luminous chains bound their extremities, securing them firmly. Their lips parted in voiceless agony as the array engaged, drawing forth an essence beyond mere blood.
"So you're pushing full throttle, eh?" Damon observed steadily.
"You ought to be focusing on that, not squandering time here. How often must I repeat it? I'm not interested in being your toy. Just leave me be."
"Aw, Viola. Ease up. I brought you a present even." Damon produced a gemstone procured by one of his shadow beasts from the Umbra's legacy realm. The system couldn't classify it, and it appeared distinctly extraordinary.
Of course, he had no intention of handing it over, but dangling it as enticement posed no risk.
"…Where'd you acquire that?" Viola inquired softly, scrutinizing the gemstone with curiosity. Damon arched an eyebrow, embodying the role flawlessly. "Tsk. You rune enthusiasts are all alike. Probing with queries rather than savoring the offering." He flipped the gemstone casually in his hand. "Say I possess keen instincts and even finer fortune."
Viola's gaze sharpened. She disregarded him and reached out subtly, her awareness scanning the gemstone from afar. The instant her detection grazed it, her eyes widened sharply.
That response revealed all to Damon. This lady had undoubtedly discerned some secret of the gemstone. Credit where due to these heirs from secluded clans. Despite their boundless advantages, they grasped their craft solidly and invested effort to excel.
"So, what is it?" Damon queried.
"I'm uncertain, yet it's a precious formation component. Actually, swapping this into my setup would spare me the intense rebound from this ceremony."
