The protagonist easily dispersed the corruption energy with a wave of divine energy, surprising everyone. He then condensed this energy into metal shackles, instantly restraining the demonic cultivators who were unable to break free. As the orthodox cultivators moved to attack the captured demonic cultivators, the protagonist intervened, wanting to extract information from them about their use of forbidden energy.

As expected, they weren’t really willing to talk even though they had been caught.

The orthodox cultivators looked like they had already been expecting this and they weren’t disappointed by the lack of cooperation that came from the demonic cultivators.

They even looked at me as if they were trying to suggest that we take care of this sooner than later.

It seemed like they really were quite bloodthirsty with the way that they acted.

But then again, that was just how this world was in the first place.

Even if they were the orthodox sects, that didn’t mean that they were strangers to fighting.

This was a world where the law of the jungle applied, it was a place where the strong would bully the weak. So they had developed personalities that adhered to this principle.

However, it wasn’t the right time for that yet.

"If you tell me what I want to know, I’ll bestow my power upon you."

It wasn’t just the demonic cultivators that were caught off guard when they heard this, even the orthodox cultivators were completely caught off guard hearing this.

Before they could say anything, I raised my hand to stop them before waiting for a response from the demonic cultivators.

At first, it didn’t seem like the demonic cultivators were moved at all by this offer.

However, I could see that there were quite a few of them that couldn’t help feeling tempted by this.

They had seen the power that I demonstrated and it was something that was on a completely different level from what they were used to. If they could wield this kind of power, it would be hard to imagine who would be able to go against them in the future.

As they were acting this way, I could see that there were a few of them that had other intentions as well.

These were intentions that were clearly not as good as they were directed at me.

They still held grievances over the fact that I had restrained them like this.

They were people that couldn’t accept that their life and death would be in the hands of another, which was why they were plotting to do something once they received the power that I gave them.

Not that I wasn’t aware of this with how poorly they were hiding it.

In the end, one of them suddenly said, "What do you want to know?"

As soon as one of them said it, it was as if the dam gates had been opened and all of them started offering to tell me whatever I wanted to know.

Even though the demonic cultivators looked much more willing to talk, the orthodox cultivators didn’t seem that happy. After all, they knew the only reason that the demonic cultivators were willing to talk now was because they wanted the carrot that I was dangling in front of them.

Which was why they were looking at me as if they were asking, "Are you really going to give it to them?"

I just ignored them as I started questioning the demonic cultivators.

The first questions were naturally quite simple.

"What are you doing here?"

The demonic cultivators didn’t hesitate at all to spill the beans.

They had been ordered here by the higher ups of the demonic sects to try and steal what they could from the orthodox sects. As soon as they heard that there was a ruin here, they naturally wanted to snatch their portion from this place.

"Who told you about these ruins?"

"Do you really think that you could hide this from us?"

It wasn’t that they were trying to act arrogant, they were just stating a fact even though it sounded like they were showing off.

But it was a fact that the information network of the demonic sects wasn’t weak, or else they wouldn’t be able to go against the orthodox sects like this.

Regardless, it didn’t seem like the full truth.

Even if they didn’t say it, there were those that had already figured out what the discrepancy was and didn’t say it out loud. It was just that based on the expressions on their faces, they were already planning on looking into this when they returned.

This really wasn’t something that could be ignored.

Even if they already knew that there were spies, it seemed like they had access to far more information than they thought.

"The demonic sects can’t be underestimated." That was what the people from the orthodox sects were thinking.

I didn’t care about this, rather there was something else that I wanted to know.

"Who taught you how to manipulate the corruption energy?"

The demonic cultivators had confused looks on their faces as it seemed like they didn’t understand what I was asking them.

I wasn’t surprised to see this since it wasn’t as if they knew what the corruption energy was, they had a completely different name for it. It was just that I had been trying to lure something out from the demonic cultivators, which was why I had said this.

In the end, it seemed like the demonic cultivators were able to figure out what I meant when I asked this and started their story.

But it didn’t seem like they had that much information to share in the first place.

The only thing that they kept repeating was that this method was taught to them by the higher ups of the demonic sects. They didn’t actually know how the higher ups had come up with this method, they just said that it was something that had been taught to all of the demonic sects.

The faces of the orthodox cultivators became ugly when they heard this.

It wasn’t hard for them to figure out why the demonic sects were doing this.

It seemed like the demonic sects had been preparing for a war all along.

Even if they hadn’t invaded the ruins today, it would have been a matter of time before the situation exploded.

Or perhaps the situation outside of the ruins might have already exploded.
