The forces of Destruction faltered against the enhanced relic users, their ranks thinning without apparent reinforcements like the Apostles. Allies from the racial alliance gathered outside the capital and charged in, linking up with defenders inside the barrier to push back the monsters. As the battle seemed too smooth, pillars of corruption energy formed a summoning array among the foes, completing despite desperate attempts to halt it and heightening the ominous fear.

That voice had imprinted itself deeply in my mind, making it utterly impossible to mistake it.

I simply hadn't anticipated this one's arrival quite so soon...

Having already taken down Famine and Pestilence, it stood to reason that the next to arrive would be...

"I was waiting for you to all gather here. Now, it’s time to show you the true meaning of war."

War.

The third among the Four Omens...

I had figured it would be one of the two leftover Four Omens, yet a flicker of relief stirred within me nonetheless. Being merely the third and not the leader brought some small comfort.

Had it been Death, I truly doubted we'd manage any resistance.

I'd already sensed Death's terrifying might and realized we stood no chance against it in our current state.

War, however, might offer us a slim shot...

Still, the aura pouring from War sowed doubts in that hope.

Beyond that, War's aura felt like it was steadily intensifying, growing fiercer the more time it spent here.

Detecting this trend, I realized hesitation was no longer an option.

I needed to act swiftly before its power overwhelmed us.

"Go."

No words were necessary; a single mental command sufficed for Lupus to obey instantly.

"Now, shall I..." War's words trailed off as a sword plunged abruptly toward it.

War possessed far too much strength to fall for such a basic ambush.

"Ha, ha, ha, isn’t this a bit too crude?" It had leisure to ridicule the strike, yet I offered no reply. After all, that lone sword was merely the opening salvo of the assault.

Countless other swords materialized around War, yet unlike the first, none lunged forward. They simply hovered in place, poised as if awaiting a signal.

War's mocking laughter gradually ceased as it turned its attention to the encircling blades.

Though shaped like a human, War's features remained shrouded by swirling corruption energy. Even so, its orientation clearly indicated scrutiny of the surrounding swords.

Moreover, it appeared to identify these weapons.

"So it seems like you’ve been busy during this time." War's amused tone prompted an immediate frown from me.

That relaxed manner suggested it felt no peril from my display, implying it held a counter ready.

The worst outcome imaginable.

Worse still, War's aura continued surging stronger by the moment.

"Even faster." I urged Lupus through our link.

Sacrificing precision was unavoidable given War's escalating power.

Without such velocity, our defeat loomed inevitable.

Thankfully, we'd held back our maximum speed initially to gauge War.

At full throttle, I swept my hand in varied arcs.

Swords within the array abruptly shifted, swapping positions with others rather than charging at War.

To any bystander, the maneuver made no sense.

Until one blade materialized directly before War, thrusting straight into its form as if conjured from nowhere.

This teleportation strike proved exceedingly difficult to anticipate.

Yet it yielded no apparent harm to War.

Despite piercing War's chest, the sword fragmented instantly, inflicting zero damage.

But this marked only the initial probe.

Dozens more emerged simultaneously, all impaling War. The first had served as the trial run.

Upon contact, every one of these sudden blades shattered harmlessly.

No volume of swords seemed capable of breaching War's defenses.

Undeterred, I pressed the offensive relentlessly.

I understood that despite the lack of visible impact, the cumulative harm was mounting inside War. Its protective measures couldn't fully neutralize every bit.

Alas, this attrition proved excruciatingly gradual.

War's nonchalant responses to the barrage indicated scant injury inflicted.

Failing to accelerate spelled grave peril.

War wouldn't indefinitely endure my onslaught passively.

"Do all that you can and then fall into despair."

A shiver raced down my spine at those words, yet I refused to halt the domain's assault on War.

Regrettably, it appeared to hold little sway over it.
