Upon entering the land of the flame elementals early in the morning, the protagonist was surprised when the elder announced that the ancestors wanted to meet him without any need for persuasion, unlike his experience with the rock elementals. He questioned the plural 'ancestors' and pondered the implications for their tribe's strength and history. The elder revealed that the ancestors were already present, having spread their essence as flames to sustain the realm amid the draining source. Amazed by their sacrifice, the protagonist prepared to discuss matters with them.

The flame elementals had surprisingly set up a spot for me to converse with the ancestors while seated.

Even if they called them ancestors, in reality, just the pair of them existed.

There weren't many others beyond that, and based on the aura emanating from them, one could easily discern that they lacked the power of the rock elemental ancestor.

Despite extending their essence to protect this realm, it proved insufficient to rival the rock elemental ancestor.

Seeming to read my thoughts from my facial expression, one of the flame elemental ancestors remarked, "You can’t compare us to that old rock. He’s the one that worked with the gods first and paved the path for the rest of us."

The other flame elemental ancestor simply nodded in agreement.

Yet the nonchalant manner in which they spoke this left me utterly surprised.

A peculiar expression crossed my face upon hearing this, though the flame elemental ancestors appeared unconcerned. To them, this seemed entirely ordinary.

I found myself considering how these flame elemental ancestors were far more approachable than the rock elemental ancestor.

Had it been the rock elemental ancestor, such words would never have been uttered.

Given their willingness to share, I could certainly exploit this openness.

"Could you share more about the history? I'm curious about the events of the war of the gods."

The pair of flame elemental ancestors exchanged glances, which initially filled me with concern, but then they agreed with nods and began alternating in recounting the tale.

The issue lay in the fact that the narrative they shared was one I already knew well.

It matched the account from the rock elemental ancestor, though this version included extra details absent from the previous telling.

These minor points might have been overlooked, yet the flame elemental ancestors intended to reveal every bit.

Truth be told, I favored the rock elemental ancestor's straightforward and brief style. The flame elemental ancestors' version veered off course repeatedly as one added yet another tidbit.

Undoubtedly, they were more forthcoming with details, but the catch was that much of what they revealed held little relevance.

Such facts might intrigue them personally, yet they offered scant appeal to anyone outside that era.

Thus, I had no choice but to endure until perhaps something novel emerged.

However, it appeared this patience yielded nothing.

With a heavy sigh, I inquired, "I’ve heard all of this before. Is there anything new that you can tell me?"

The two flame elemental ancestors glanced at one another, puzzled by my words, before responding, "What do you want to know? You just asked about the war between the gods, so we told you about what happened back then."

My lips twitched involuntarily at this, but I composed myself and stated, "Do you know anything about the gods?"

They remained silent initially, then affirmed, "Of course we know about the gods. We’ve met all kinds of gods when we fought with them in the past."

My eyes brightened upon hearing this, and I pressed, "Can you tell me about them?"

The flame elemental ancestors paused thoughtfully before launching into various anecdotes about the gods.

Regrettably, none of it addressed what I sought.

"There was this one god I remembered that used to hide snacks from the other gods. Didn’t we catch them in the middle of hiding her snacks?"

"Right, she was hiding it from that one god in particular that always chased after her. But then again, he was the one that always gave her snacks, wasn’t he?"

"The two of them really were interesting with the way that they went back and forth."

The flame elemental ancestors proved more candid than the rock elemental ancestor, but this openness carried drawbacks. It made them prone to diversions and endless digressions.

Moreover, they rambled about topics they deemed fascinating without regard for their audience.

The rock elemental ancestor, while reserved, offered greater reliability. They selected pertinent information wisely, avoiding such endless chatter.

Finally, I reached my limit and interjected, "Can you tell me something about the gods and what kind of things they did in the war?"

This query seemed to shift the atmosphere abruptly.

The instant I posed the question, a heaviness settled over the flame elemental ancestors' demeanor.

The gravity in their gazes toward me unsettled me deeply.

This altered my entire perception of these two ancestors.

Simultaneously, the overall tone transformed with their shift.

"This isn’t something that we can tell you."

Their firm declaration left no room for further debate.

It took me aback, yet pursuing it further seemed futile.

After all, they might simply vanish if I pressed the issue.

I simply couldn't fathom the reason for their sudden change in behavior.
