Shota's Isekai NTR Adventure Chapter 2023: Allergic reaction?
Previously on Shota's Isekai NTR Adventure...
Thanks to the rapid pace set by the royal guards, we made it to the Merman Empire in what felt like mere moments.
Indeed, I noticed they employed several aids that boosted our speed beyond the usual. These were obviously potions sourced from the sea witches.
Ever since the rift between the sea witches and the Merman Empire was bridged, a variety of exchanges had clearly taken place between the two factions.
After all, the royal guards were now utilizing sea witch potions themselves.
Back in the old days, such a thing would have been utterly unthinkable.
Thanks to that, our journey wrapped up in just one full day, landing us right in the Merman Empire.
Upon arrival, they didn't escort me straight to the palace.
Instead, the royal guards led me to a secluded manor under their strict lockdown. The sheer number of guards posted around it showed just how determined they were to isolate this spot from everything else.
However, recognizing me as the one under guard escort, they granted me entry without issue.
Inside the manor, the Merman King awaited me, his expression dark and foreboding.
This issue was one he had spearheaded himself, so it weighed heavily on him. Moreover, failing to safeguard the other races' representatives would spell disaster.
In short, it would strip him of all dignity as the Merman Empire's leader.
It'd be akin to tarnishing his whole lineage's honor.
That's why he desperately wanted me to uncover some way to resolve this crisis.
I held little optimism myself, yet I trailed the Merman King to check on the afflicted individuals.
As I approached, a puzzled expression crept across my face.
Though I wasn't a real physician and lacked deep knowledge of such ailments, the state of these other-race members revealed something clear to me.
"Is this an allergic reaction?"
The way these other-race individuals looked mirrored a severe allergic episode. I figured this was a universal thing across worlds, but considering...
This realm operated on medieval-level medicine, bolstered by healing magic, so allergies weren't a big concern generally. Folks could just mend themselves magically if an allergy flared up.
Here, they appeared to be relying on potions and healing spells to keep the patients steady.
Yet despite these efforts, the sufferers showed no real improvement.
"Could something in the water be triggering this allergy in them? And if so, why no symptoms until just recently?" These thoughts raced through my mind as I examined their states.
Drawing from my previous life's allergy knowledge, this screamed acute reaction. The type that hits immediately, without any lag.
The delay in symptoms for these patients simply defied logic.
For the signs to persist post-healing suggested ongoing exposure to whatever was provoking it...
"Maybe their initial exile wasn't without cause?" That was the deduction I reached based on the details at hand.
The Merman King fixed me with a tense, narrowed gaze, but I held back from sharing since my ideas weren't fully formed. Revealing my thoughts prematurely might spark unfounded optimism.
Rather, the priority now was figuring out if I could help these patients in any way.
"Where’s the kraken?"
The Merman King looked taken aback by the question, yet he said nothing and stepped into another chamber. Returning, he had the kraken trailing alongside him.
The kraken displayed clear irritation at the sight of the bedridden patients, but it approached me anyway, as if anticipating an order.
I wasn't entirely sure how to proceed, having never tapped into the kraken's abilities before, but the contract we'd formed made this feasible.
This was precisely the ability required at this moment.
Especially since these patients had never suffered such reactions back in their home environments.
As the kraken drew near, I extended my hand, letting it coil around.
I had no clear idea of how our powers might merge, but this gesture felt instinctively correct.
With the kraken encircling my hand, I sensed our bond deepen, along with the immense power it held.
Through this link, I pulled on the kraken's energy to form orbs of water encasing the patients.
We were deep underwater, so water already enveloped them. Still, the orbs I conjured differed from the surrounding liquid.
For one, these orbs contained swirling currents within.
As the currents churned inside the water orbs, it pushed out impurities like a cleansing force.
Before long, the orbs stood apart from the ambient water.
Infused with the purifying currents' might, they had become nothing but pristine, untainted water.
