Shota's Isekai NTR Adventure Chapter 1988: More experiments (2)

Hoping to fulfill a promise made to other nations, the protagonist enters a secluded relic space to experiment with sustainable barrier technology. He enlists a reluctant Queenie to summon specialized insects, though the primary obstacle remains the inability to refill the divine energy required to power their defenses from a distance. To find a suitable vessel for this energy, he bribes Queenie with rare treats to test various objects. The experimentation takes a sudden turn when her first attempt to inject divine energy into a potential conduit triggers a completely unexpected reaction.

"Boom!"

The sudden blast left both Queenie and me totally stunned in that instant.

In the end, though, the blast turned out not to be powerful enough to injure us at all.

With the dust and fumes finally clearing, I glanced down at the exploded object. Now that I examined it closely, there wasn't really anything substantial remaining of it after the detonation.

The item that had just burst apart was a magic stone.

Given how magic stones could soak up mana, I figured they might handle divine energy in the same way.

After all, both were types of energy, even if one clearly ranked higher than the other. The reaction suggested it operated on an entirely different level altogether with that kind of explosion.

To be fair, the divine energy Queenie wielded wasn't particularly potent to begin with.

Queenie's divine energy originated from Insectum, which carried the trait of reproduction. This allowed it to replenish itself without ever growing more powerful.

In other words, it qualified as merely low-grade divine energy.

Even so, it proved sufficient to cause the magic stone to detonate in this manner.

Of course, this particular one was just a low-grade magic stone to start with.

Once Queenie shook off the surprise from the blast, her gaze toward me clearly indicated she held me responsible for what occurred.

All I managed was a casual shrug as I replied in a resigned tone, "I didn’t think that it would explode like this."

I had anticipated it wouldn't succeed, but for it to erupt so unexpectedly...

Nobody could have predicted such an outcome.

Queenie stared at me for a moment, as if attempting to pressure me into confessing some scheme, but I truly had no knowledge of this happening.

Eventually, she averted her eyes, seemingly conceding that this was indeed the case.

Still, it appeared she had no intention of experimenting with the remaining items present.

Yet I wouldn't allow that, pulling out several more objects and placing them before her.

At first, Queenie showed little curiosity toward the items I laid out, but her attitude shifted quickly. She began eyeing them gradually, like she was discovering them anew.

The aroma emanating from these items had captivated her attention.

Drawing from my past experiences when this realm functioned as a game, I understood precisely what temptations bugs in this world couldn't ignore. For a slothful being like Queenie, these proved doubly irresistible.

That's why she snatched them up and devoured them swiftly, then unleashed her divine energy once more.

On this occasion, the outcome differed from what happened with the magic crystal.

Truthfully, I had no clue what might succeed, so I'd gathered various items in the hope of uncovering something effective. Unfortunately, none of them performed as I'd hoped.

Nevertheless, one noteworthy observation emerged during these trials.

Most of the items avoided exploding. Actually, the majority didn't even degrade when infused with divine energy.

This stood in stark contrast to the magic crystal, which had detonated while attempting to hold the divine energy.

"It’s because they simply lack any compatibility with the divine energy, right?" I muttered under my breath while observing the process.

Unlike the magic stone, which possessed a quality enabling it to retain energy as mana, these other objects lacked that feature. Thus, the divine energy passing through them simply escaped right away.

They had no means to retain the divine energy within...

"Then it looks like only energy-holding items can achieve what I'm aiming for." I whispered to myself again before retrieving another object.

The moment this appeared, Queenie turned to me with an eager, ravenous expression.

Obviously, she yearned to consume it, but I refused to permit that since it served a crucial purpose. Besides, this rare find wasn't something even I could obtain without effort.

I'd acquired this from the sages during my previous visit to the Sorcery Empire.

I hadn't imagined ever needing it, yet now I felt compelled to try it out.

"Try injecting divine energy into this."

Queenie visibly recoiled upon hearing my words, recalling how the previous item had blown up. However, this one wasn't fragile like the earlier low-grade version.

What I presented this time was a high-grade magic stone.

That realization only heightened Queenie's fear, as the blast from a high-grade magic stone would undoubtedly far exceed that of its low-grade counterpart.

"Just send one of the bugs to do it."

Queenie pondered briefly before nodding in agreement.

For my part, I exercised every safety measure, encasing the magic stone in a barrier to contain any potential mishap.

The bug, brimming with divine energy, entered the barrier and made contact with the magic stone, releasing the divine energy from its form.

Yet, unlike the low-grade version, the high-grade magic stone didn't explode.

It appeared the high-grade magic stone successfully absorbed the divine energy.
