She Used Me for a Dare… Now I Own Her Mother Chapter 579: An Unexpected Guest

The heavy wooden door pulled inward, revealing Danny standing on the threshold with an easy grin that vanished the exact second his eyes took in the figure beside Alex.
He froze mid-motion, his hand still resting on the brass handle as his eyes flickered from Alex to Victoria and back again in utter disbelief.
Before he could find his voice, footsteps sounded from the hallway behind him, followed by the warm, welcoming voice of Linda as she stepped into the foyer with David close at her heels.
"Alex, honey, is that you? Come inside, I just pulled the—"
Linda’s words trailed off into stunned silence as she caught sight of their guest, her hands still instinctively clutching a kitchen towel.
Behind her, David came to a dead halt, his eyes widening in pure astonishment behind his wire-rimmed glasses.
Alex had mentioned over the phone that he was bringing someone special over for breakfast, but he had deliberately left out any names, leaving Danny and his parents wondering who had finally managed to catch Alex’s attention.
Neither Danny nor his parents could have ever anticipated that the woman standing on the porch of Villa 6, wrapped in a soft coat and resting her hand gently against Alex’s arm, was the very same Victoria Blackwood who held the reins of the city’s most formidable family.
For a few heartbeats, the quiet foyer hung in absolute stillness while the three of them struggled to process the sight. Then, as the initial shock settled into understanding, the quiet suspicion Linda and David had harbored back in that private hospital room clicked into sharp, undeniable clarity.
Alex couldn’t help the small, amused smirk tugging at his lips as he broke the silence.
"Morning, Mom, Dad... sorry for keeping you waiting."
Victoria offered a graceful, disarming nod, her voice dropping the sharp authority of the boardroom in favor of something calm and respectful.
"Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Morrison. Hello, Danny. It’s wonderful to see you all looking so well."
The sound of her gentle tone seemed to snap Linda out of her stupor. The older woman let out a soft, breathy laugh of pure disbelief before a radiant, maternal smile spread across her face, completely washing away the nervous tension at the door.
"Oh... good heavens, Alex," Linda said, shaking her head with fond exasperation as she stepped forward to usher them in. "You never told us... Madame Victoria, please, come in! Don’t just stand out in the cold air."
"Yeah... welcome," Danny stammered, finally finding his voice and stepping aside with an awkward, flustered grin, throwing Alex a pointed, wide-eyed glare that practically demanded an explanation for later.
Before anyone could take another step inside, the rhythmic, energetic patter of socked feet echoed loudly from the living room corridor.
"Alex! Big Brother Alex!"
Nina burst around the corner like a gust of wind, a bright yellow hair ribbon bobbing wildly as she dashed toward the entrance with arms already outstretched. Her cheeks were full of lively color, her eyes bright and free of the agonizing fatigue that had once weighed down her small frame.
She had launched herself forward with full intentions of jumping right into Alex’s arms, but the moment her gaze shifted past his shoulder, her tiny shoes came to an abrupt halt against the hardwood.
Nina’s eyes went wide as saucers as she stared at the woman standing beside her brother.
"Aunty Victoria!" Nina squealed in pure, unfiltered delight, completely abandoning her original trajectory toward Alex and sprinting straight toward Victoria instead.
Any remaining trace of hesitation vanished from Victoria in an instant. Without a second thought for the pristine fabric of her coat, Victoria bent down with an instinctive, effortless grace, catching the little girl as she leaped forward and scooping her up into her arms.
"Hello, little one," Victoria said softly, her face lighting up with a rare, radiant smile as Nina wrapped both arms tightly around her neck.
Nina nestled her face into Victoria’s shoulder for a happy second before pulling back to inspect her, beaming from ear to ear.
"You came to our new house! Look, my tummy doesn’t even hurt anymore, and I don’t have to take the yucky hospital medicine because of the water Alex brought!"
Holding the child securely against her hip, Victoria looked down at Nina with eyes that held genuine fondness, reaching up with one manicured hand to gently smooth a stray curl behind the girl’s ear. "I can see that. You look much stronger today, Nina. Much braver, too."
Beside them, Linda watched the scene with her hand pressed against her chest, her eyes shimmering with faint, emotional warmth as she exchanged a quiet, knowing glance with David.
Standing right beside the woman holding Nina, Alex simply watched with a calm, fulfilled smile, knowing the hardest threshold had already been crossed without a single misstep.
"Come now, don’t keep our guests standing in the drafty hallway," Linda said warmly, clapping her hands together to break the spell.
"Breakfast has been waiting on the table, and the apple cinnamon rolls are going to go cold if we stay out here all morning. And madame Victoria, please make yourself comfortable."
Victoria set Nina down with practiced care, but the moment the girl’s feet touched the hardwood, her small hand immediately reached up and clasped tightly around two of Victoria’s fingers, refusing to let go.
With an eager, proprietary pride, Nina began guiding her toward the dining area, chattering about the fresh juice her mother had squeezed and pointing out the family pictures lining the wall. Victoria followed willingly, her shoulders relaxed and a faint, amused smile playing on her lips as she matched the little girl’s energetic steps.
As Linda and David led the way to take Victoria’s coat and set an extra seat at the head of the table, Danny deliberately lingered behind.
The moment the women turned the corner into the dining room, he reached out, caught Alex by the elbow, and yanked him into the quiet alcove near the staircase.
"Are you completely out of your mind?" Danny whispered frantically under his breath, glancing over his shoulder toward the dining room before staring at Alex with wide eyes. "Why the hell didn’t you warn me you were bringing her? You almost gave me a heart attack!"
?Alex leaned back against the polished banister, hands tucked comfortably into his pockets, an unrepentant smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth.
?"And where would have been the fun in that?" Alex asked smoothly, looking thoroughly amused. "If I had warned you beforehand, how would I have gotten to enjoy the priceless look on your face?"
?Danny let out a soft, rueful breath, rubbing the back of his neck. "Well, yeah, because my brain is still trying to process it. Alex, we’re talking about Victoria Blackwood."
Alex chuckled softly, but before he could offer another teasing remark, the frantic disbelief in Danny’s face settled into something much heavier. Danny took a step closer, his voice dropping into a solemn, guarded register that Alex hadn’t heard since the desperate days at St. Mary’s Hospital.
"Look, banter aside... I have to ask you seriously, man," Danny murmured, his jaw tight with genuine concern. "I know she saved Nina. I know what she did for us at Memorial, and I swear to God I will be grateful to her until the day I die. But... she’s still James Blackwood’s wife. She’s the daughter-in-law of the most ruthless family in this city."
Danny glanced toward the bright dining room, where the cheerful clatter of porcelain and Nina’s high-pitched giggles drifted through the air, before locking his gaze onto Alex with raw, protective anxiety.
"High-society families like that don’t play by normal rules, Alex," Danny whispered, his fingers curling into tight fists.
"Their pride is everything to them. If James or the Blackwood elders realize that she’s spending her mornings here with you... they won’t just let it slide. They’ll see it as an insult to their bloodline. I don’t give a damn about elite gossip, Alex, but I give a damn about you. I don’t want to watch you get crushed under the weight of people who think they own the world. Are you really sure this won’t bring a crosshair down on your back?"
Alex’s smirk slowly faded, replaced by the calm, immovable gravity that had come to define him over the past few weeks. He didn’t scoff at the question; he respected the deep, fraternal instinct driving it.
He reached out, placing a firm, heavy hand on Danny’s shoulder, his grip carrying a steady warmth that anchored his friend immediately.
"I’ve already accounted for all of it, Danny," Alex said, his tone low, quiet, and completely devoid of doubt. "Every single piece on that board is moving where I want it to. James Blackwood doesn’t have the power to touch me, and whatever title she holds on paper with that family isn’t going to stand in my way. I’m not playing defense here, and I’m certainly not walking blindly into someone else’s trap."
He gave Danny’s shoulder a steady squeeze, meeting his worried gaze with absolute certainty.
"You and I grew up having to swallow our pride and look at the floor because we didn’t have a family crest behind our names. But those days are over. No one in this city has the strength to tear down what I’m building, and nobody gets to harm the people standing behind me. Victoria knows the stakes, and so do I."
A quiet breath passed between them before Alex offered a faint, reassuring smile.
"Trust me, brother. You don’t need to lose sleep over the Blackwoods coming for my neck. Just enjoy your morning, let Nina have her time with her ’Aunty,’ and leave the dangerous work to me. As for Mom and Dad... I’ll sit down with them after breakfast and give them enough of the truth so they don’t have to worry either."
Danny held his breath for a beat, letting the quiet certainty sink into his chest before finally letting out a long, ragged exhale. The tension rolled off his shoulders like a melting frost, and he shook his head with a tired, admiring grin.
"Man... you really have changed, haven’t you?"
Danny murmured, half in awe. "Fine. But if Mom starts interrogating her about grandchildren over scrambled eggs, you’re on your own."
"Fair enough," Alex laughed, releasing his shoulder and gesturing toward the dining room.
"Now come on. Let’s not make them wait."
