Yet Su Ming paid no mind to it whatsoever; on the contrary, he replied with delight.
“I got here just yesterday.”
“Good, I’ll buy you a round after this gathering ends!”
Tiger responded with a hearty laugh.
“Sounds great!”
Su Ming accepted without hesitation.
“Oh yeah, what’s the latest with Lin Chuyu?”
Tiger asked with a grin.
“Eh, not a lot. Military duties have kept me swamped recently, so I haven’t reached out to her for some time.”
Su Ming shared with Tiger.
“Okay.”
Tiger answered, sounding a touch let down.
Suddenly, the bustling conference room went quiet, prompting Su Ming and his companions to turn their attention that way.
Commander Alekde stepped in through the side entrance, hands clasped behind him, face grave as he approached the platform.
Commander Alekde scanned the assembled leaders seated beneath him, and upon spotting Su Ming, a flicker of astonishment crossed his features before he composed himself, then declared gravely.
“With everyone present, we can commence the session!”
Click!
The entrance sealed shut right away.
Alekde spoke to the assembly in a resonant tone.
“The key focus of this session is the massive withdrawal. Our departure demands transporting vast amounts of gear and people, pushing us to full limits. The list for evacuation is set, and procedures must not be breached by including outsiders. Clear on that?”
“Yes, sir!”
The attendees chorused back.
“Moreover, in this vast pullback, avoid overconfidence. Stay geared for the direst outcomes! All personnel need to brace for combat; verify the vessels, arms, and munitions…”
Alekde proceeded to outline various safeguards.
Su Ming paid close attention to Alekde’s directives.
Time flew by, and two hours elapsed quickly.
Alekde stressed to the group one last time.
“Let me reiterate: this enormous withdrawal has to safeguard the Shabask Kingdom without fail; nothing must go wrong on their side.”
“Understood!”
Everyone echoed together.
Su Ming felt a spark of curiosity and murmured to Tiger.
“What’s behind Commander Alekde’s special attention to the Shabask Kingdom?”
“It’s a deal sealed by Lord Long Bai himself. The Shabask Kingdom didn’t just align with the Federation; they also donated a hefty sum to the Cosmic Army Headquarters’ forces. Taking their aid binds us to uphold our part.”
Tiger clarified for Su Ming.
“Got it.”
Su Ming acknowledged with a nod.
“That wraps up the talks. Barring any surprises, the withdrawal kicks off the day after tomorrow.”
Alekde announced to those gathered.
“Yes!”
The officers on hand answered, grins lighting up their faces.
At last, they could return home.
“Meeting adjourned!”
Commander Alekde gestured dismissively to the assembly.
The throng of officers rose and streamed out.
“Boss, shall we head back to get ready?”
Rhein inquired of Su Ming.
“Go on without me; I’m off to the Shabask Kingdom. It’s been ages since I caught up with Shadler.”
Su Ming also longed for the young fellow; his prior exit from Cosmic Army Headquarters had been too rushed. With the move underway, a visit was in order.
“Sure thing!”
Rhein and the rest nodded along.
…
Shortly after, Su Ming departed from Cosmic Army Headquarters, making his way to the adjacent Star Track Station.
Arriving at the Star Track Station, he found it strikingly empty, almost completely deserted.
Su Ming stepped onto a Star Track Train, claimed a seat by the window, reclined against the headrest, and gazed at the well-known vista outside, recalling his encounter with Lin Chuyu in this very spot.
Beep beep~
With the alert chime, the train’s doors sealed.
Whish!
The Star Track Train lurched into motion, accelerating swiftly.
Before long, the train left Blackthorn Fortress behind and ventured into the void, where the far-off World Eye appeared.
Right then, Su Ming beheld an awe-inspiring scene: the World Eye’s mechanical ring encircled the Constant Star, deploying mechanical arms from every direction to envelop the whole star in a globe-like form.
This sight struck Su Ming as fresh and astonishing, so he lifted his wrist to message Shadler.
Not much later, the Star Track Train pulled into the World Eye.
As Su Ming left the Star Track Station, he noticed a few black hovercars parked ahead.
Lum waited directly in front of the lead hovercar.
“Mr. Lum, what brings you here?”
Su Ming called out with a friendly smile.
“Lord Su Ming, Prince Shadler dispatched me to pick you up.”
Lum answered with deference.
“Very well.”
Su Ming hopped into the black hovercar without delay.
Over half an hour passed before the black hovercar reached the entrance of Shadler’s exclusive clubhouse and came to a halt.
Su Ming stepped out, only to hear an excited cry.
“Big brother!”
Su Ming glanced up and watched Shadler dash over enthusiastically for an embrace.
“It seems like you’ve bulked up a bit in no time at all?”
Su Ming remarked, grinning at Shadler.
“Is that so? I’ve been so stressed I haven’t slept well; no way I’ve gained weight.”
Shadler protested, looking vexed.
“Why stress like that? The world won’t end; everything will improve once we shift to the Federation.”
“Yeah!”
“Incidentally, what’s everyone up to? Why has the World Eye enclosed the Constant Star?”
Su Ming inquired with interest.
“Ah, that. We’re firing up the gravity lock system to bind the Constant Star. In the end, we’ll haul the star along during the migration, but the effort has been a real hassle, holding us back for ages. We’d have departed sooner otherwise, but luckily, it’s nearly done.”
