Rise of The Demon General Chapter 970. Impersonating
Previously on Rise of The Demon General...
Jong Ta was one of the eight priests traveling with Tian Jung, who hitchhiked in Peng Chi’s caravan back to Ceollach City. While Tian Jung often travelled between cities with an entourage of different priests, Jong Ta was originally a priest stationed in Ceollach City.
Now back in his home city, Jong Ta returned to his routine tasks, including daily sermons. His favorite place to deliver a sermon was a worship plaza in the trade district. He could gather a large crowd there, and he enjoyed spreading the Divine’s words to the unenlightened. He always picked early morning for his sermon. That way, his sermon could inspire the common folks for the long day ahead.
He again gathered a large crowd this morning. After his sermon ended, his congregation came forward and requested his blessing. He happily gave them his blessing.
The last one was a beautiful woman.
"Miss Wi Zhing, how are you doing? I am glad you came to hear my sermon," Xia Lung greeted the woman as he blessed her.
"Hearing your sermon has always brightened my day, Father Xia Lung. How can I miss it?" Wi Zhing replied. "When I heard you had returned from your field trip, I came here hoping it was you who would deliver the sermon. I am glad I did. I hope you won’t be going away again anytime soon."
"I go where our order needs me, Miss Wi Zhing. We all serve the Divine."
"Of course, we do... Father, is it all right if I ask for a personal request?"
"We shouldn’t be affixed to individual needs, but I will hear your request."
"My husband has been sick for some time. Do you mind coming over to our house to bless him? I know your diviner skill shouldn’t be used arbitrarily like this, but I wish Father could make an exception. My husband longs to serve the Divine again, but he can’t if he is bedridden like this."
"If it were a random person, I wouldn’t have entertained such a request, but you are different, Miss Wi Zhing. You are a devout follower of the Divine. That alone has qualified you to receive the Diviner’s blessing. Let us leave for your house at once. I am happy to assist those who are eager to serve the Divine."
Wi Zhing bowed appreciatively. She led Jong Ta to her house, located in a residential complex next to the Trade District. She opened the door and let him into the lobby. After she closed the door, Jong Ta grabbed her waist and pinned her to the door. He then kissed her on the lips forcefully, sticking his tongue into her mouth, while his hands groped all over her curves.
After a while, he let go and said, "Pretty sly of you to request that I heal your worthless husband. Hehe, you can’t wait until night? Me neither. I can’t stop thinking about you on the road. If Bishop Tian Jung hadn’t demanded that we compile a report on this latest field trip, I would have visited you two days ago once I was back. I can see now that you miss me, too. Is it because your sickly husband can’t do his husbandly job? Don’t worry, I will gladly do it for him. Let’s us..."
Jung Ta’s hands were busy removing Wi Zhing’s dress as he spoke. His eyes were on his busy hands so he could finish the task as quickly as possible. But when his sight returned to her face, he paused. The reason was that the face staring back at him was neither affectionate nor lustful. Her expression was cold. The worst was her eyes. They were full of disdain. At that moment, he realized that the woman before him was not the one he knew.
His realization came too late, though. Before he knew it, Wi Zhing’s hand moved past his throat. He felt his throat being cut open, and his blood gushed out in a large volume. He dropped to the floor. He didn’t even manage to utilize his cultivation power to do anything.
Amon walked into the lobby. "It’s quite a mess," he remarked.
"He pissed me off," Wi Zhing replied. Her face transformed, revealing that she was Lin Li in disguise.
"Have you copied his appearance?" Amon asked.
Lin Li replied by transforming into Jung Ta.
"Good, I will get rid of this," Amon said. He grabbed Jung Ta’s corpse and threw it into his black space ring.
Amon targeted Jung Ta because he knew about the priest’s forbidden affair with Wi Zhing. This knowledge came from the random info the mind readers gained as they roamed the city to collect information for him.
After learning about the affair, he tasked several mind readers with searching for Jung Ta the next day. They knew Tian Jung had brought his follower priests to the City Shrine, which also served as a city hall. The mind readers took turns walking near the building until they spotted Jung Ta in the courtyard. They read his mind and learned his schedule to deliver a sermon the next morning.
Thus, Amon prepared everything. He ambushed Wi Zhing’s house and eliminated everyone inside. He then told Lin Li to impersonate Wi Zhing so she could lure Jung Ta here.
Amon looked at the bloodstain on the floor and said, "This bloodstain will be a problem if people see it. My original plan is for the priest and the people in this house to vanish without explanation. That will complicate the Holy Temple’s investigation compared to leaving proof that a murder has taken place here."
"I’m sorry, brother. I let my feelings get the best of me," Lin Li said. She lowered her head in shame.
"Learn from this. Giving in to your feelings jeopardizes matters most of the time."
Lin Li nodded in repentance.
Amon gave the matter a thought before saying, "Never mind, we will burn this place later tonight when we carry out our plan. No one should be coming over until that time."
He took out a bottle and poured its liquid onto the floor where the bloodstain was. It was the Flesh Melting Poison. The poison didn’t melt any flesh. Instead, the floor melted, leaving a large burn mark.
"The fire tonight should mask this burn mark," Amon remarked. He then summoned an altered beast. It was a beast that could spew fire from its mouth. He commanded it to hide inside here and burn the house tonight.
After that, he told Lin Li, "Let’s go to the Citizen Center."
*
Amon gave Lin Li the Disenchant Shield Talisman and told her to hide it inside her clothes. When they passed through the Citizen Center’s entrance, the talismans hidden inside their clothes protected them from being revealed and turned into dust.
Amon also warned Lin Li not to use her Mesmerizing Voice or Hypnotizing Gaze. They were similar to mind practitioners’ mental powers. The engravings around the center would not only block these powers from affecting their targets, but also notify those in charge when such mental projections were released.
Amon told Lin Li that her presence as Priest Jong Ta was enough without using any mental powers. She only needed to speak what Amon conveyed to her. As for them communicating via their mental link, he didn’t worry. Their communication was directly through the connection between their souls. It was deeper and stronger than the telepathy performed by mind readers, so their communication wasn’t blocked or detected.
Inside the center, Amon approached the deacon who had processed his application two days ago. The deacon was surprised to see Priest Jong Ta. He greeted the priest with a respectful bow.
"Father Jong Ta, why are you here?" The deacon asked. Jong Ta was a stationed priest who delivered routine sermons in the nearby worship plaza, so most other Holy Temple members in this city knew him.
"I came here to escort this man to get his citizen crest," answered Lin Li, disguised as Jong Ta.
"This..." the deacon was anxious upon hearing her words.
"Is there a problem?" Lin Li asked.
"Forgive me, Father. This man is scheduled to be interviewed by Inquisitor Lei Xiang today. Sadly, we have been unable to contact her since yesterday. We are unclear when she will be available. I’m afraid he must wait until she is present or until another inquisitor comes to this city."
Lin Li faked a disappointed expression. She said, "This won’t do. Let me explain this. You know I went with Bishop Tian Jung during my last trip, don’t you?"
"I do," the deacon nodded. He felt more anxious due to the priest’s expression.
"And you know we came back with this man and the caravan he is with, right?"
The deacon nodded again.
"The trip is for a mission of utmost importance to our order, but it is also secretive. I can’t tell you about it, but the mission is not over yet. This time, the mission is instructed directly by Cardinal Tian Yong."
