Rise of The Demon General Chapter 855. Making a Deal
Previously on Rise of The Demon General...
Amon sneaked into Mo Wang’s castle from one of the openings inside the many balconies around the castle. Despite the place being the residence of the ruler of the realm, there was no barrier preventing one from entering. It was precisely because of Mo Wang being the realm ruler that he believed his castle didn’t need a barrier. No one would be foolish enough to trespass on his property. Even the Domain Lords chose to announce themselves and wait for permission before entering, as had been proven when Amon joined the Lord’s meeting.
Amon was thankful for Mo Wang’s haughtiness. This eased his infiltration. He, however, knew that Mo Wang had a surveillance enhancement inside his castle to detect intruders, which was proven by how he caught all of Dao Su’s bugs Amon sent to survey the castle. Hence, Amon kept the concealment prism close by.
Aside from infiltrating, Amon released five battle puppets. Each of these puppets held a large translucent rock in their hands. These puppets were equipped with the same concealment as the prism he carried. These five went in different directions. They were to carry out a secondary objective in this castle.
Amon already knew where to go, so it didn’t take him long to arrive before the gate in the basement. He took out a talisman and stuck it onto the giant gate. The talisman flared to life. Its light spread all over the gate. The words of power on the gate’s surface emitted a strong glow at first, but when the light from the talisman touched them, they slowly dimmed. After some time, the whole gate was emitting a dim glow.
"Alright," Amon uttered. The talisman was developed by Zee Whang specifically for this gate. It acted as a hacking device that hampered the words of power used on the gate. The effect lasted only for a short time, though.
Amon concentrated his aether into his fist. Using the Bone Shattering Shadow Fist, he punched the gate. A loud bang was heard, and the gate flew open. He walked into the chamber.
Di Yu was lying on the floor, resting. She rose in surprise when the gate opened in such a brutish fashion. Her astonishment grew when she saw Amon enter alone without Mo Wang.
"You..." She remembered Amon. In all the time she had been imprisoned here, the number of people Mo Wang had shown Di Yu could be counted with one hand. "Where is that accursed demon?"
"He is outside, battling your brother," Amon answered.
"My brother?"
"Never mind them. I’m here to set you free."
Di Yu froze for a moment when she heard that. She then broke into laughter. "Hahaha! What is this? Is this a new torture attempt from Mo Wang? Don’t bother, I won’t fall for it!"
"I’m serious. I’m here at someone’s request. I will call her out soon. Once you see her, you will know that I’m telling the truth. However, I want to let you know that I have a condition for your release."
Di Yu was confused by Amon’s words. She still thought that Amon was someone Mo Wang sent to toy with her, so she said, "Alright, I’ll play along. What is your condition?"
Amon showed her three fingers. "As payment for releasing you, I demand that you heed my call for aid three times."
"Huh?"
"I will give you two talismans. One is a beacon talisman that allows you to track my location. Another is a message talisman. When you receive my call, you must come to my aid."
"... Are you serious?" Di Yu’s assumption that Amon was toying with her was starting to give way.
"I never joke," Amon answered.
"Mm..."
"Do we have a deal?" Amon asked.
"Well, if you can free me. Very well. I guess answering the call of a human thrice is bearable."
"Alright. As a noble dragon, it will be a disgrace if you go against your own promise."
"Why would I do..." Her speech stopped mid-sentence when Di Ying appeared beside Amon.
Di Ying didn’t know that Amon had already broken into Di Yu’s chamber. He didn’t provide a window to see the outside world inside the black space ring. Otherwise, she would have exited on her own once Amon entered the gate. She only came out after Amon called her.
"Di... Di Ying...?" Di Yu uttered. Though she never laid eyes on Di Ying before she hatched, she knew immediately that the woman before her was her child in disguise. Their connection was strong when they were this close, even from the barrier that imprisoned her. Di Ying was the name she had given her. She told Thien Huo the name and made him promise to look after her if she was unavailable. He passed the name over when Di Ying hatched.
"Mother!" Di Ying called. She transformed into her true form. She tried running to her but was stopped by the barrier around Di Yu.
Di Yu was filled with joy upon seeing Di Ying, but her joy soon faded when she felt something in her child. Being this close and with a connection as strong as theirs, she could sense another connection within her. Her joy transformed into bewilderment, before being replaced by shock, then disbelief, fear, and ultimately, anger.
"You... You... You allowed a cultivator to tame you...? How could you?!"
Her four feet stomped madly into the ground under her. Her tantrum caused the castle to shake nonstop. She even banged her body into the barrier and fired her black breath. The result was the same as the last time when Amon witnessed it. The dark ray bounced from the barrier and hit her. She seemed too lost to care. She fired another two times, with the same result, harming nothing but herself.
"Mother, stop it!" Di Ying cried. "You are hurting yourself! I know I was wrong. I’m sorry! I don’t know... Please, forgive me."
Di Yu finally stopped. Her legs still slammed into the ground occasionally. She was so angry that she couldn’t speak. She just growled. Her eyes kept looking away before darting back to Di Ying. She yearned to look at her child, but the disappointment was so great.
Her eyes then shifted to Amon. As her rage receded, she regained control of her senses. Those senses informed her of another thing she felt from Di Ying. The mental link she felt from her, the tamer was none other than Amon. Then, her fury was rekindled.
"It’s you? It’s you! Oh! I’m going to rip you apart! I’m going to tear you to pieces...!!"
The castle shook again as Di Yu’s tantrum went batshit crazy. Di Ying continued to plead for her to calm down, while Amon stood calmly and watched.
This went on for several minutes. When Di Yu’s temper had lowered enough that she could hear outside sounds again, Amon asked, "Are you done? If you keep making noises, Mo Wang will notice someone has infiltrated his castle. It will be a problem if he returns here before we manage to set you free."
"I want nothing from you! Go away!!" Di Yu screamed.
"Mother, don’t be like that," Di Ying begged. "The important thing is to get you out of here. We can talk about other issues once you are free."
Di Yu was making labored breathing. Though she could rein her anger in a little now, she remained furious. She stared at Amon and said threateningly, "Set me free, and I will devour you the second I am out."
Amon shook his head. "Now, that’s not a good incentive for someone willing to free you, is it? Let me make this clear first, and I believe you know this fact as well. If I die, your child won’t be unscathed."
Di Yu didn’t respond.
"Mother, what is he talking about?" Di Ying asked.
Di Yu remained silent.
It was Amon who provided the answer. "What I meant is that if a cultivator dies, his tamed beast will experience a backlash. Mild effects from the backlash will be permanent trauma in the beast’s mind. In severe cases, the tamed beast may die too. In your case, a youngling that has not yet matured, even if you are lucky to get only the mild effects, the trauma will severely hamper your growth. You will never reach your true potential."
Di Ying stared at Amon. It was like this was the first time she had seen him. Perhaps she did. She finally saw him for the evil, manipulative demon he was.
"Let me make this clear," Amon stated as he approached Di Yu. "I have no intention of letting go of your child. She is my hostage, to ensure that you will never harm me, or at least, until you fulfil your promise."
"What promise?" Di Ying asked.
Amon ignored her question. He continued to stare at Di Yu as the black dragon reacted to his statement. "What do you mean? Are you saying you are willing to let her go after I fulfil my promise?"
Amon nodded. "The only way for a tamed beast to have their mental link safely removed is if the beast tamer severs it willingly. She will be a bit distraught, but that’s it. She won’t suffer any lasting damage, physically or mentally. What do you say? I think this is a good deal, isn’t it?"
"Fuck you!" Di Yu slammed the barrier angrily.
"We don’t have much time," Amon said. "Do you want to accept my deal, or stay and rot here until your life force runs out?"
