Rise of The Demon General Chapter 793. Reversal
Previously on Rise of The Demon General...
Amon found himself bewildered. The idea of an all-seeing entity governing the world had never resonated with him. Yet, if a voice existed that bestowed power upon individuals for meeting specific criteria, then something of that nature must indeed be real. He wondered if the creator spoken of by Xlasstazh and Xuan Ming was connected to this phenomenon.
He didn't dwell on it excessively. The information imparted by Bo Wu wasn't necessarily factual; the Hell Beast himself had conceded his knowledge was based purely on hearsay.
Amon inquired, "So, if I've grasped a law and had another moment of enlightenment, I will hear a heavenly voice informing me that I can acquire no further laws?"
"To my understanding, you won't hear the voice at all. It ceases to communicate once you've accepted a law," Bo Wu replied. "This is the reason one can only hold a single law."
A period of silence followed as Amon processed this revelation. Bo Wu, impatience coloring his tone, interjected, "Hey, are you going to enlighten me on how we escape this place?"
"Before we discuss that, could you please approach the wall over there?" Amon requested.
"Which wall specifically?" Bo Wu questioned.
"The one adorned with writings," Amon specified.
Bo Wu scanned his surroundings until his gaze fell upon the wall Amon indicated. The surface was covered in numerous carved lines. Bo Wu initially dismissed them as random markings, and even if they were intended as script, they were in a language utterly foreign to him.
As Bo Wu approached, he noticed a human skeleton seated cross-legged before the wall. A fragmented sword rested on its lap. From its remnants, it was clearly once a longsword, with only about twelve inches of the blade remaining from the crossguard. Despite its broken state, this weapon emanated an aura that dwarfed the other armaments scattered throughout the cavern.
While Bo Wu was captivated by the broken sword's peculiar aura, Amon's voice cut through his thoughts, "The upper portion of the writings narrates the origin of this place."
"Huh?" It took Bo Wu a moment to grasp that Amon was referring to the wall inscriptions. "You can decipher those writings?"
"Indeed. The script employed is the language from my original world," Amon confirmed.
"What do you mean? Are you suggesting the author of these inscriptions hailed from your home in Aetheria?"
Amon's mind was on his previous existence, but he saw no need to elaborate further.
"My conjecture holds true. This realm was inadvertently shaped by the tumultuous clash between Mo Wang and an entity known as the Divine. The skeleton here is that of Yun Chao, one of Mo Wang's loyal followers who engaged in the conflict against the Divine."
Bo Wu shifted his focus back to the skeleton and the broken sword.
"The inscriptions on the wall represent his final testament. Hmph! A futile effort to make his mark for any unfortunate souls destined to find this desolate place."
A mocking chuckle escaped Bo Wu. "Why frame it as if you're discussing strangers? Aren't we precisely those unfortunate souls?"
Amon ignored the jab, continuing his translation of the wall's etchings.
"Yun Chao depicted the Divine as a formidable adversary. Even with the backing of hundreds of his devoted followers, Mo Wang could not achieve victory over the Divine. Many of Yun Chao's comrades perished in the fierce battle. Through immense sacrifice, they managed to inflict damage upon the Divine's weapon, which he called the Light of Justice, ultimately disarming him. Yun Chao himself was the one who managed to seize the damaged sword.
"However, the clash of energies between the enraged Divine and Mo Wang, who was attempting to shield Yun Chao, sent the latter plummeting into the earth. Fatefully, he crashed into a dark-elemental ley node situated deep underground. The combined energies propelling him downward interacted with the ley node, triggering a catastrophic chain reaction that warped the very fabric of space. This event ensnared everything on the surface within the immediate vicinity into this newly formed dimension.
"Yun Chao sustained severe injuries. The Divine's sword also fractured into two pieces during this cataclysm. He attempted to depart, only to find the pervasive darkness energy barring the exit insurmountable for his wounded state. Consequently, he became trapped here."
"Tch!" Bo Wu grumbled. "If even an individual capable of battling a being of the Divine's caliber cannot escape this place, what hope remains for us?"
Amon remained impassive to Bo Wu's bleak pronouncement, continuing his reading. "The second section of the writings comprises a detailed exposition on what he considered his most masterful cultivation art."
"Tch! A cultivation art? What earthly good is that? Couldn't he have left behind something more practical? Damn it! Stupid dead man!" Bo Wu erupted, kicking the skeleton. The bones clattered and scattered, and the broken sword fell to the ground with a resounding clang.
Bo Wu continued to unleash his fury by striking other objects, behaving like a petulant child who had just lost a treasured possession.
It took some time for his composure to return. Once it did, he questioned Amon, "Hey! Why the silence? Didn't you promise to help me escape this place?"
When Amon offered no response, he pressed further, "Hey! Are you even alive?"
Still, Amon remained silent. Just as Bo Wu was about to voice his frustration again, he discovered his body had become difficult to move.
"Wha–What...?"
While Bo Wu pondered his strange predicament, he heard Amon's sinister laughter echoing.
"Hehehe..."
Bo Wu’s confusion quickly morphed into alarm. He directed his consciousness inward, his form emerging from the dark smoke that now swirled around Amon’s black energy core. To his shock, the energy space he had believed he controlled had fundamentally changed. Glowing characters of power now drifted throughout the void.
"How... How did you..."
"Hehe. Do you recall asking me how I managed to restrain you when you attempted to attack Dao Su? I briefly activated these restraining glyphs then, deactivating them before you could notice. It served as a test, to gauge their effect on you."
"But... When did you create this... and how did you...?"
"How? For an engraver, it’s quite straightforward. The novelty lies in the concept of engraving one's own energy space. I’ve been painstakingly carving these power inscriptions over an extended period, often while you were preoccupied, such as during conversations or when you manifested outside my physical form. Their activation was the only part that required timing, as they remained dormant and undetectable."
Bo Wu gazed at the floating characters, recognizing them from the engraved ropes and chains. A memory surfaced: Amon had once practiced creating engraved ropes. Bo Wu had questioned the necessity, given the ease of acquiring pre-made ones. Amon had simply stated a desire to hone his engraving skills.
"Hmph! So what?" Bo Wu retorted defiantly. "I still hold dominant control over your body. Incapacitating me is all you can achieve. How long do you imagine you can maintain this?"
"Hehe. You overestimate your own capabilities," Amon chuckled.
As Amon finished speaking, Bo Wu felt an intense pressure emanating from the opposing side of the energy space.
"Hai Di was aware of my dual cultivation paths, but I doubt he anticipated the full ramifications. He still imprinted you into me, despite this knowledge. My consciousness persists, even after your usurpation of my black energy core, because I possess a secondary energy core. The glyphs now binding you draw their power from this divine energy core, and their functions extend beyond mere restraint."
A searing heat radiated from the black energy core beneath Bo Wu. Looking down, he saw dark tendrils of light seeping from his smoky essence.
"What? How...?"
The heat intensified relentlessly, becoming unbearable. His smoky form began to ignite. He realized that clinging to the black energy core would lead to his utter disintegration.
Sensing no other recourse, he released his grip on the black energy core. Instantly, the glowing glyphs throughout the space converged, forming colossal ropes that sliced through the shadowy web and coiled around Bo Wu.
"You think you can capture me!" Bo Wu declared. He dissolved into a thin wisp of smoke, scattering just as the luminous ropes descended.
"Hehe... Did you ever consider why I engaged in conversation rather than immediately deploying this restraining power the moment your true nature was revealed?"
Bo Wu’s smoke form was too ethereal, lacking sufficient substance to be ensnared. The ropes made no move to pursue his dispersed essence. Instead, they drifted towards a specific corner of the energy space.
"What?!" Bo Wu's voice, laced with anxiety, echoed as he observed the ropes' destination.
"A soul imprint signifies your soul resides within me. Over the years, I’ve also secretly developed the means to sense your soul’s presence, even when you conceal it. All I required was time—time my conversations with you provided. Now, I have you!"
The ropes surged forward, encircling an unseen, spherical object. At that precise moment, Bo Wu unleashed a roar of pure agony.
