Leng Yu and her father received unexpected honors and promotions from the Emperor after defending the country. Despite her own doubts about being qualified, Leng Yu was appointed Grand General, and her father was made National Guardian General. The Emperor also promised to reinforce the battered Border Army.

"Furthermore, there will be no separate chief appointed for the new army.

The esteemed position of General at the Border Army Camp will be temporarily entrusted to Lao Liu.

This is by imperial decree."

However, the subsequent words read by the young eunuch left the already astonished multitude utterly bewildered. They exchanged glances, disbelief etched on their faces, questioning the veracity of the eunuch's pronouncements and whether their senses were deceiving them. It was as if they were caught in a collective hallucination.

How could it be that not only was Leng Yu appointed the Grand General of the Dayou Kingdom, but Lao Liu was also made the Garrison General of the Border Army?

This revelation struck them as even more astonishing than Leng Yu's elevation.

After all, Lao Liu had always presented himself as simple-minded, his reasoning quite straightforward.

For someone like him to ascend to the position of Garrison General was as preposterous as witnessing a pig take flight.

Lao Liu himself, kneeling amongst the crowd, heard this and his eyes bulged, his mouth falling open, rendering him speechless for a considerable duration.

It wasn't just him; every eye turned towards Lao Liu, their expressions a canvas of shock.

One might even argue that Lao Liu's improbable appointment lent a semblance of acceptance to Leng Yu's own promotion to Grand General.

If a figure like Lao Liu could become a Garrison General, then why couldn't Leng Yu aspire to be a General?

Observing the scene unfold from behind the window, Lin Yi witnessed everyone's reactions. A wry smile played on the corner of his lips.

Indeed, this was the precise outcome he had envisioned; this was the spectacle he had longed to witness.

Lin Yi had desired to see the public's reaction to such pronouncements, the myriad of emotions that would surface, and the inexplicable actions they might undertake.

All of this, naturally, was orchestrated by Lin Yi; he was the architect behind these imperial decrees.

As for Leng Yu's promotion, the reason was simple: she was his sole trusted confidante in this world, and not elevating her was simply out of the question.

Moreover, despite Lao Liu's outwardly simple nature, Lin Yi recognized a certain shrewdness within him. Most importantly, however, was Lao Liu's unwavering loyalty and unshakeable integrity.

To Lin Yi, such rare qualities made him the most dependable choice to wield considerable authority within the Border Army Camp.

Once such an individual pledged their allegiance, they would not easily waver in their loyalty, nor would they harbor treacherous intentions or engage in corrupt practices.

This, precisely, is why such individuals often earn the favor of emperors.

Regarding the potential dissent Lao Liu might face from his subordinates following his appointment, Lin Yi had, of course, contemplated these very issues.

Yet, he remained untroubled. Through his astute observations, he had discerned that the soldiers of the Border Army shared an exceptionally strong sense of unity. While minor altercations might occasionally occur, their bonds were forged in the crucible of life and death.

Even if they found Lao Liu's appointment baffling, they certainly would not conspire to overthrow him.

As the crowd remained frozen in stunned silence, the young eunuch cleared his throat softly before directing his kind gaze towards the figure of Leng Yu, gently reminding her:

"General Leng, you must accept the decree and offer your thanks."

This gentle nudge promptly jolted everyone back to reality, drawing their collective attention to the imperial decree held by the young eunuch.

The contents detailed within this decree left them utterly astonished, beyond the realm of comprehension. A fervent desire arose within them to snatch the decree from the eunuch's grasp, to verify its authenticity with their own eyes, and to question whether the eunuch was fabricating stories.

However, such thoughts could only remain fleeting notions; none dared to make such a brazen move.

They all understood well the grave repercussions that attempting such an action would entail.

Consequently, Leng Yu, leading the assembly, promptly bowed to accept the decree and then respectfully extended her hand to receive it.

After carefully placing the decree into Leng Yu's hands, the eunuch offered a polite bow and addressed her:

"Congratulations, General Leng."

Though Leng Yu was deeply perplexed and bewildered, the eunuch's congratulatory words spurred her to action. She swiftly extended her hands in return, cupped her fists with courtesy, and replied:

"Thank you, thank you kindly. You have traveled a great distance to deliver this message; please, do rest, for I shall arrange for food and drink. Furthermore, I have several questions I wish to pose to you for guidance at a later time."

Upon hearing this, the young eunuch rapidly waved his hands in refusal:

"I would not dare, I absolutely dare not.

This journey has already caused some delay. His Majesty awaits my timely report. Should you arrive in the Capital City, General Leng, I shall undoubtedly pay you a visit."

It was evident that the eunuch's intentions were clear; he dared not partake in any meal or banquet, needing to return promptly to deliver his report. This left Leng Yu even more bewildered.

She was utterly baffled as to why the Eunuch radiated such palpable fear, to the point of refusing to even sit for a meal. What exactly about her had instilled such terror in him?

Nevertheless, observing the Eunuch's current state, Leng Yu opted against arguing, instead offering another bow of gratitude. She then personally escorted him out of the courtyard and beyond the confines of the Border Army Camp.

As they watched him depart on his steed, Leng Yu and the bewildered onlookers eventually turned back.

Throughout their return, a shared expression of astonishment and confusion was plastered on every face.

Upon arriving back at the City Lord's Mansion, they encountered Lin Yi, who was approaching them with a smile.

"Heh, what's with those looks? I heard an imperial decree was delivered, so why is the place so empty?"
