After Master Felicia attempted to evade the inquiry and retreat to her chambers, Aquarina’s mother’s patience wore thin.
"Where do you think you’re going, you useless bum?!" Nepheline bellowed, instantly conjuring a brick and launching it at Felicia, striking her squarely on the head.
"Ouch! Why’d you fling a brick at my head?!" Felicia cried out, her composure completely crumbling.
"We’re all out here fighting for your country, and this is how you repay us?!" Nepheline retorted, her voice rising. "Contribute something!"
"I-I am contributing in my own way! Do you have any idea who’s been researching the curse, delving into the dungeon, and keeping watch over the people? Someone has to remain behind…" Felicia argued.
"Aren’t you supposed to be our strongest warrior? Your power is off the charts. Why not take on at least one dungeon yourself?" Nepheline pressed.
"I already explained that I’m protecting the nation while all of you are occupied! What if an enemy force attacks?!" Felicia snapped back, clearly irritated.
"You’re just inventing excuses because you’re too lazy!" Nepheline shot back.
"Oh, just be quiet!" Felicia retorted.
Incredible.
This situation?
I never anticipated witnessing this.
To be perfectly honest, I couldn’t recall ever seeing them behave in such a manner.
My mother folded her arms and shook her head. My father mirrored her action.
It was strangely amusing.
"Please forgive them," my mother said. "They occasionally revert to their teenage selves, when they were constantly bickering like this."
"They never truly got along," my father added.
"Indeed…" Aquarina’s father sighed. "Their personalities are polar opposites, leading to frequent clashes. However, I had presumed that Nepheline, having matured and become a mother of two, would exhibit greater composure. Now, Nepheline, that’s sufficient. You’re embarrassing your daughters. Furthermore, Aquarina is Felicia’s apprentice; we are indebted to her for that."
"Ugh…" Nepheline groaned, lowering her head in resignation.
Despite her habitually dominant demeanor in their relationship, it was evident that Shade was the one who subtly held the reins, knowing precisely when to intervene and halt her actions.
Which was, admittedly, rather endearing.
"But, my dear…" Nepheline protested, revealing an unexpectedly tender side towards her husband.
"Come now, dear. That’s enough," Shade said gently. "It’s not advisable to quarrel with an old friend, is it?"
"Uh… really?" Nepheline inquired, still fixing Felicia with a glare. Master Felicia was offering me the most arrogant smirk I had ever encountered.
"Heh."
Wow. That was quite harsh.
"Grrrr! You ridiculous shrimp!"
Nepheline surged forward, but Shade’s shadows swiftly enveloped her, preventing any reckless movement.
"Enough… You are no longer a child…" Shade placed a hand on his forehead. "I apologize, Felicia…"
"It’s alright, Shade," Felicia responded with a shrug. "Nepheline, you are exceptionally fortunate to have found a partner like Shade. With your temperament, I doubt you could secure anyone comparable again."
"Eh?!" Nepheline exclaimed in disbelief. "W-Why would you say something like that, you insufferable— And you’re in no position to comment! You’re single!"
"By choice!" Felicia retorted, heading back into her room and shutting the door firmly.
However, she promptly reopened it, glancing back at us.
"My disciples, do not forget the necessity of acquiring the appropriate materials for forging your cauldrons. That assessment is still underway, and the deadline is drawing near."
With those words, she swiftly withdrew into her room once more.
An uncomfortable silence descended upon the assembled group.
"Um…" I murmured. "So that was… quite an event."
"Regardless!" my mother declared brightly, attempting to lift the somber atmosphere. "Let us set aside my friend’s outburst and return to our discussion. Regarding the dungeons: you intend to conquer them, correct? Are you certain?"
"Yes, certainly. We are capable of handling it," I affirmed with a nod.
"Sylphy, I am aware of your formidable strength. You will likely manage, especially now that you command literal deities as your familiars," she stated. "However, your companions lack that distinctive advantage. I suggest forming larger parties and progressing through the dungeons at a more measured pace. Perhaps clear two dungeons today instead of four? There is no need for undue haste."
"Ugh…" I groaned. "Are you all sure about this?"
"Hmm, well, I am exceptionally powerful. We breezed through the dungeons effortlessly!" Lara proclaimed confidently, surrounded by her multitude of spirits.
"However, there was still a significant and noticeable increase in the power levels required," Mist observed.
"I concur…" Even my brother offered his agreement. "To prevent any unforeseen incidents and maintain a cautious approach, it would be prudent to proceed with deliberation and assemble more substantial teams."
"Indeed…" I replied with a nod. "Well then, Aquarina and I should be perfectly alright on our own, shouldn’t we?"
"Frankly, I would prefer not to have anyone else accompany us. This is our special outing," Aquarina stated unequivocally. "However, you all could form one large group, couldn’t you?"
"That sounds delightful!" Lara enthusiastically agreed.
"I suppose that is acceptable. We can explore alongside our friends," Celica remarked.
"Ah, Aquarina and Sylphy really don’t see us as equals anymore, huh?" Celeste sighed. "This is some insane power scaling."
"What sort of nonsense are you talking about?" I sighed. "I see all of you as equals! You want me to go with you? Fine, I’ll go."
"No, no, it’s fine," Mist said. "This isn’t just for fun. We’re solving a problem, so we must do it efficiently. We shouldn’t prioritize staying together, right?"
"I want to explore with Sylphy, Aquarina, and everyone else together like before, but this isn’t the time yet," Celica nodded.
"We’ll do it once we finish these small dungeons and move on to the bigger ones," my brother added.
"I agree!" Mist said. "So no problem, Sylphy. Don’t listen to Celeste. She’s just jealous that Aquarina gets you all to herself, hehe."
"W-What are you talking about?!" Celeste blushed furiously. "I-I haven’t said anything like that!!!"
"Wow, so obvious. Look at her blushing face," Celica teased.
"Do you like Sylphy, Celeste?" Ruby asked curiously.
"W-What?! Of course not! She has a girlfriend!" Celeste panicked.
"That doesn’t really matter, right? You can still like someone even if they’re in a relationship—"
"Shut up!" Celeste cried, covering her mouth before running back to her room.
"Ah... uh, maybe I shouldn’t have said anything," Ruby muttered.
"Um, so anyway," I said, clearing my throat. "Let’s get back to the main topic..."
"Right," my brother nodded. "Enough drama for now."
"I agree," Aquarina said. "What do we do next?"
"We should get ready," I replied. "Aquarina and I will head to the Burning Forest Dungeon. You guys can take the Stone Cathedral. That seems fine?"
"Yeah, sounds good," Celica nodded.
"Okay~!" Lara cheered. "Umm, I wonder if Luck is coming today?"
"Perhaps tomorrow or the day after, depending on the weather," my mother said. "Arafunn... I don’t know if he’ll bring them himself or send an airship."
"Given the long distance, he’ll probably skip coming on his own and just call for an airship," my father added.
"True," Nepheline agreed. "Anyway, that’s settled. Let’s get ready to depart."
