Regression - Second Chance At Life Chapter 319: Meeting Her Again
Previously on Regression - Second Chance At Life...
Adam piloted the Stratosurge back to Danny’s villa, with Danny inside. Upon reaching the front entrance, the guards recognized Danny’s car and permitted their passage without the previous obstruction Adam encountered.
The car halted before the main entrance, and both Adam and Danny alighted. Danny’s face remained alight with a triumphant smile, already envisioning himself boasting about the day's events.
"It's time for me to depart," Adam stated, observing Danny’s trajectory towards his mansion.
Danny halted and glanced back at Adam. "So soon? I had hoped we could continue our gaming session for a few more hours," Danny proposed.
"Not at this moment; other matters require my attention. Perhaps another time," Adam replied.
Though visibly disappointed, Danny did not protest. "All right, another time then," he conceded.
"Here," Adam said before departing, casually tossing Danny his personal car key. Adam couldn't take the car with him as he was keeping the Stratosurge.
Danny fumbled to catch the key, managing to secure it after a few nervous fumbles.
"Got it!" Danny exclaimed with a wide grin, flashing it at Adam before examining it himself. "What’s this for?" he inquired.
"Well, I can't exactly take my car back with me now, can I?" Adam pointed out.
"Ah, that's true," Danny acknowledged.
"I shall collect it later," Adam informed him and was about to re-enter the Stratosurge when another vehicle pulled up behind them.
Adam paused and turned to observe the driver exiting the car—a man of average appearance, dressed in a chauffeur's uniform.
He promptly moved to the rear door and opened it, allowing a woman to emerge.
Mature and strikingly beautiful, she possessed an aura that commanded attention the moment she entered a room.
She was attired in a floor-length, black, one-piece dress that accentuated her alluring figure. Despite its length, the dress was far from conservative, featuring a plunging neckline that revealed a tasteful amount of cleavage. However, the focus was subtly redirected by an exquisite diamond necklace adorning her throat, which glittered brilliantly under the afternoon sun. A matching pair of earrings complemented the necklace, drawing the eye back to her captivating face.
Enhancing her ensemble further was a heavily iced-out watch on her wrist, valued at over half a million dollars, and designer sunglasses worth more than the average man’s annual salary.
This woman unequivocally knew how to project an image of immense wealth. She exuded elegance, sexiness, seduction, and affluence. Most individuals, upon seeing her, immediately recognized her status as a person of considerable wealth and influence, prompting them to treat her with elevated deference.
Whether this was a deliberate psychological strategy or simply her impeccable fashion sense, Adam had no idea. However, he did know one thing: he recognized this woman.
She was Marissa Coronant, the wife of William Coronant and the mother of Danny Coronant.
The very same woman Adam had met and conversed with in the hotel elevator after they had both been with other partners. Adam had been with Bianca, while Marissa was with a gigolo named Mark.
Adam vividly recalled their elevator exchange, filled with flirtatious banter, which had culminated in the parking lot with Marissa providing him with her personal contact information.
Adam had her number memorized but had never called, preoccupied with other matters. He also hesitated to contact her before solidifying his friendship with Danny, as potential repercussions loomed if Danny discovered Adam had been intimate with his mother before their bond had deepened.
Just as Adam recognized Marissa, she too recognized him.
She removed her sunglasses and gazed intently at Adam, mirroring his stare. Their eyes met, locking in a silent recognition, neither uttering a word.
Marissa had certainly not anticipated encountering the attractive young man from the hotel here, accompanying her son in front of their very home.
She still remembered their meeting with clarity; it was an encounter that had lingered in her thoughts, particularly after the whispers about Adam from her preferred gigolo.
She recollected giving Adam her phone number and the slight vexation she felt later, not receiving the call she had anticipated.
Yet, seeing Adam now standing beside Danny, she experienced a sense of considerable relief, as becoming involved with Adam could have led to significant complications.
Her desire to keep her extramarital affairs concealed made any involvement with Adam a potential source of further trouble, especially now that she knew Adam and her son were acquainted.
"Mommy! You've arrived just in time! Allow me to introduce you to my best friend!" Danny exclaimed. He immediately hurried over to Marissa, took her hands, and gently pulled her closer to Adam.
Marissa, naturally possessing a profound affection for her only child, could never refuse his requests.
"Mommy, this is Adam. Adam, this is my mom, Marissa," Danny announced, as Adam and Marissa’s gazes deepened, locking once more.
Adam offered Marissa a gentle smile, extending his hand.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Coronant," he stated, feigning ignorance as if this were their inaugural encounter.
A flicker of surprise registered in Marissa’s eyes at Adam’s composure. Most young men in his position would likely exhibit awkwardness, unsure of how to conduct themselves.
"The pleasure is mine, Adam. Please, call me Marissa. Mrs. Coronant does make me feel rather old," Marissa replied, mirroring Adam’s composed demeanor with a practiced smile.
Despite the subtle stir Adam’s presence caused within her, Marissa maintained her poise, a testament to her maturity.
"Old? Not at all. You look absolutely stunning for your age. Mr. Coronant is quite the fortunate man," Adam remarked, his smile disarmingly charming.
A fleeting memory surfaced in Marissa’s mind. These were the exact words Adam had uttered during their previous encounter in the elevator, a clear indication that he remembered her quite well. Marissa found herself uncertain of how to interpret this.
She then shifted her gaze to Danny. "So, Adam is your best friend now? How is it that I'm only just learning this today? When did you two meet?" Marissa inquired, her tone resonating with the concern of a protective parent.
"We met at a movie theater, and it was instant chemistry. Adam and I share similar tastes in nearly everything!" Danny exclaimed enthusiastically.
Adam glanced at Danny internally. 'Sharing similar tastes in nearly everything is a bit of an exaggeration, but I suppose I'll let him believe that,' Adam mused.
"Oh, that sounds wonderful..." Marissa murmured, turning her attention back to Adam, a trace of suspicion now clouding her eyes.
As Danny was her only child, Marissa was naturally quite protective. Adam’s sudden appearance in his life and their swift ascent to best friends struck her as somewhat suspicious.
"It’s a shame you’ve arrived just as Adam is about to leave. You two could have gotten better acquainted," Danny remarked.
"Oh, I don’t believe that will be an issue. I am quite certain Adam can spare a few moments to come inside and chat with me. I would genuinely enjoy learning more about your new best friend," Marissa stated.
Adam met her gaze, scrutinizing her with a thoughtful expression, attempting to decipher Marissa’s true intentions.
Was her invitation a genuine desire to get to know her son’s new companion, or was it a probing about their prior meeting in the hotel elevator?
Entering this situation presented its own set of complexities, yet outright refusal of her invitation seemed ill-advised, potentially provoking her ire.
"Well... if Marissa insists, I suppose I could spare about half an hour," Adam conceded.
"Fantastic! Let’s go inside. I can’t wait to tell you about Adam’s day!" Danny chirped, already bounding towards the mansion.
Adam and Marissa exchanged another look before following Danny into the grand house.
Upon entering, a butler approached Marissa, relieving her of her handbag.
"Ed, please prepare some tea for Adam and myself. We shall be in the garden," Marissa instructed the butler. He acknowledged her command with a silent nod before departing.
"Danny, why don’t you go and freshen up? You seem a bit… fragrant. Until then, Adam will keep me company, won’t you, Adam?" Marissa inquired.
"Certainly," Adam responded.
Danny complied with his mother’s request and left, leaving Adam and Marissa alone in the living room.
"Follow me," Marissa said, leading Adam towards the garden situated on the farther side of the mansion.
The garden itself was a picturesque space, dominated by a charming gazebo at its center. Intricately carved pillars supported a decorative roof, beneath which elegant furniture was arranged.
"Please, have a seat," Marissa invited.
Adam sat down, choosing to remain silent until Marissa broached the subject. Engaging in idle chatter, he felt, would only serve to make him appear either desperate or weak.
Marissa followed suit, sitting opposite Adam, exuding an air of refined grace.
"So..." she began.
"So..." Adam echoed, maintaining his characteristic charming smile.
"You knew who I was before?" she questioned directly.
"Not initially. However, once you provided me with your card, I realized," Adam admitted truthfully, making no attempt to conceal the fact.
Marissa settled back into her chair slightly.
"So, you and my son are best friends now? How did that come about?" Marissa probed further.
"As your son mentioned, we share common interests. For men, that’s often all that's needed to form a bond," Adam replied with an unchanging smile.
Marissa remained silent for a few moments, her mind occupied by a singular question she had been eager to pose to Adam from the outset.
