Record of a Demon's Cultivation Chapter 1254: Not Enough, Continue
Previously on Record of a Demon's Cultivation...
“Fellow Daoist Bai Wei, why is Miss Xu cultivating a second Primordial Spirit?” Song Wen’s thoughts were interrupted by this sudden question.
Bai Wei’s eyes snapped open as if jolted from a deep slumber. She quickly shifted her gaze, no longer fixed on a particular part of Song Wen’s body.
“Actually, this matter bears some relation to you,” she stated.
Song Wen’s heart leaped. His mind immediately jumped to the conclusion that Xu Mengyu’s acquisition of a second Primordial Spirit was linked to “Lei Yue.” He also realized that Bai Wei was already aware that he was “Lei Yue.”
“Senior, what do you mean by that?” Song Wen inquired, his defenses rising while he feigned a look of utter confusion.
Bai Wei went on to explain, “Approximately one month ago, two rogue cultivators found themselves in the Divine Transformation Stage. While exploring the Cloud Passage Mountain Range, they chanced upon a small world. Given that no cultivators had set foot there for eons, a vast quantity of spiritual objects had accumulated over an extended period. However, the majority of these treasures were under the protection of formidable demon beasts. The two cultivators managed to acquire only a handful of low-grade spiritual objects before making a hurried retreat from the pocket dimension.”
“Subsequently, in an attempt to capitalize on their discovery, the pair of rogue cultivators divulged the information to the Profound Sky Sect. The Profound Sky Sect harbored intentions of claiming the small world as their own. Yet, the Cloud Passage Mountain Range falls within the dominion of the Myriad Swords Pavilion. The Myriad Swords Pavilion soon became aware of the Profound Sky Sect’s clandestine activities. With the Spirit Jade Palace maintaining informants within both of these major sects, we too were apprised of these unfolding events. In the end, the three sects engaged in negotiations and reached a consensus to jointly explore the confines of the small world.”
“What precisely constitutes a small world?” Song Wen posed the question.
“You have never heard of a small world?” Bai Wei responded, a degree of surprise coloring her tone. Nevertheless, she patiently continued her explanation to Song Wen. “A small world was once an integral part of the mystic realm. However, for reasons unknown, it became severed from the rest of the realm. You can conceptualize it as a secret realm, albeit one that is significantly larger and more intricate.”
Song Wen offered a slight nod and persisted with his inquiries.
“Even so, Senior, why did you assert earlier that this situation is connected to me?”
Bai Wei elucidated, “The two rogue cultivators unearthed a Heavenly Soul Mushroom within the small world. Fully aware of their inability to vanquish the guardian demon beast, they were compelled to withdraw. Since this particular spirit herb is indispensable for the concoction of the Heavenly Astral Body Integration Pill, I made the decision to investigate the small world myself. Upon learning of this, Mengyu too expressed a desire to enter this small world. However, cognizant of the perils that lay within, I declined to permit her accompaniment. This refusal spurred her to conceive the notion of cultivating a second primordial spirit, with the hope of employing it to gain entry into the small world.”
Upon hearing this explanation, Song Wen inwardly let out a profound sigh of relief.
Concurrently, he found himself suppressing an internal chuckle at his own unfounded paranoia, feeling akin to a furtive, guilty thief.
“Thank you, Senior, for dispelling my doubts,” Song Wen replied. He casually located an unoccupied corner, retrieved a meditation cushion, and adopted a cross-legged posture. He then commenced his pretense of meditation, aiming to restore his mental fortitude.
Ten hours later, Song Wen concluded his meditation session. He rose to his feet and approached the jade bed.
Just as he was preparing to lean over and resume the treatment, Bai Wei’s voice resonated from behind him.
“Gou Jun, wait.”
Song Wen spun around abruptly, directing a look of bewilderment toward Bai Wei.
“Senior, is there something you require?”
Bai Wei’s lips parted slightly, her crimson mouth moving as if to speak, yet no words emerged.
Perceiving her hesitation, Song Wen inquired once more, “Senior, do you have any directives?”
“I…” Bai Wei’s slender hands clenched involuntarily. Her long eyelashes drooped as she fixed her gaze upon the ground. “I can assist you in overcoming… the desire barrier.”
The final two words were uttered in a voice as faint as a mosquito’s hum, barely reaching his ears.
“Senior, is this… truly appropriate?” Song Wen’s eyes suddenly lit up, his mind flooded with visions of Bai Wei’s ethereal form.
Bai Wei, having voiced her most deeply held desire, now projected an aura of unwavering resolve. She lifted her head, meeting Song Wen’s gaze without flinching.
“There is nothing inappropriate about it. As long as you can dedicate yourself to healing Mengyu, any measure is justifiable.”
She swept a hand across her face, peeling away several sections of artificial skin from her jawline, the tip of her nose, and the corners of her eyes.
In an instant, her unparalleled beauty was laid bare before Song Wen.
Her body quivered faintly as her white robes cascaded downwards, leaving her completely vulnerable in his presence.
Song Wen’s mouth grew parched, his Adam’s apple bobbing convulsively. His gaze was intense, seemingly affixed to Bai Wei, utterly incapable of diverting even for a fleeting moment.
Bai Wei, observing Xu Mengyu resting on the jade bed, suggested, "This current location is rather inconvenient. Perhaps we should relocate to another chamber."
Her discarded robes ascended, enveloping Song Wen, and conveyed him to the adjoining room.
Before long, sounds of unrestrained revelry emanated from the next chamber.
Six days elapsed.
Bai Wei reclined languidly on the low divan, her countenance suffused with a deep blush. Her delicate hand gently patted Song Wen, who was positioned above her.
"Gou Jun, surely that suffices for now? Should we not recommence Mengyu’s healing?"
Song Wen, who had been in a state of stillness only moments prior, abruptly became animated.
"Inadequate. We must persist."
A semblance of distress crossed Bai Wei’s features. Her brow knitted, and she bit down upon her crimson lips.
An additional four days transpired.
Bai Wei was seated at a polished wooden table, her attire impeccably arranged. She cradled a teacup, taking delicate sips of the steaming liquid.
Gazing at Song Wen across the table, his face etched with fatigue as he repeatedly refilled his cup with Spirit Tea, Bai Wei inquired with a trace of concern, "Gou Jun, considering your present condition, do you possess the capability to still heal Mengyu?"
Song Wen placed his teacup down and responded with an air of casualness, "It poses no issue. Although my physical form is weary, my spirit remains robust. Attending to Miss Xu’s recovery presents no obstacle whatsoever."
The pair promptly returned to Xu Mengyu’s chambers and resumed the restorative process.
Bai Wei detected that Song Wen had finally attained a state of profound tranquility. A fleeting expression of relief graced her luminous eyes—her endeavors had not been in vain.
However, this sense of relief was ephemeral, lasting barely two days.
As Song Wen concluded his healing session and rose, Xu Mengyu still exhibited no indications of stirring. Bai Wei’s gaze involuntarily shifted towards Song Wen’s midsection, her expression morphing into one of astonishment.
"Gou Jun, you..."
"Such an outcome is to be expected."
"But... it has only been approximately twenty-four hours."
"Alas! This was not my intention, yet... I find myself unable to exert control over it."
Bai Wei cast a glance at Xu Mengyu, lying immobile upon the jade bed with her eyelids closed, then returned her gaze to Song Wen, a veil of suspicion clouding her eyes.
"When, precisely, will you succeed in healing Mengyu?"
"One further treatment should suffice to awaken her," Song Wen declared.
Bai Wei lapsed into silence for a brief spell, then clenched her jaw.
"Let us proceed to the adjacent chamber."
Emerging once more from the neighboring room, Song Wen recommenced the delicate procedure.
Several hours later, Xu Mengyu’s eyelids suddenly fluttered open. The initial sight that greeted her was a pair of closed eyes, positioned so closely they almost brushed against her own.
A sudden, potent surge of chilling energy erupted from within her. Her right hand ignited with an azure luminescence as she executed a palm strike with astonishing speed towards the head poised near her face.
Yet, her forceful blow met only empty air.
Even before her palm could make contact, Song Wen had already risen with practiced grace and positioned himself beside Bai Wei.
