Record of a Demon's Cultivation Chapter 1225: Utterly Vulnerable
Previously on Record of a Demon's Cultivation...
As Li Rui’s flying sword was on the verge of clashing with the golden lightning, two scarlet beams shot forth from afar, striking the sword.
To Li Rui’s astonishment, his link to his natal flying sword began to falter, making control increasingly difficult. The sword aura, once resplendent, gradually dimmed.
In the very next moment, the golden lightning slammed into the sword, sending it spinning away. However, the lightning’s residual power remained potent as it continued its trajectory toward the immense bronze bell positioned below.
Yet, the lightning was slightly too late. Before it could make contact with the bell, the two crimson beams had already arrived.
As the blood-red light enveloped the bell, the golden spiritual light that had shimmered across its surface started to dissipate. By the time the golden lightning made impact, the yellow spiritual light had completely vanished.
Subjected to the lightning’s onslaught, the bronze bell met a similar fate to the sword, shrinking to a mere three feet in height before being flung aside.
The golden lightning pressed onward with its relentless descent.
At this point, Li Rui had manifested a shield spanning ten feet in width, which now hovered above his head.
Boom!
The thunderous strike hit the shield, instantly transforming into a golden cascade that enveloped both the shield and Li Rui within its depths.
Li Rui’s vision was overwhelmed by golden light, his ears filled with the roar of thunder. He desperately poured his spiritual power into the shield, barely managing to keep it stable. Nevertheless, the terrifying force carried by the golden lightning propelled him and the shield downward, crashing towards the earth.
Nearby, Li Zhengqing swiftly summoned a long blade.
The blade whistled through the air, its edge aimed directly at the golden lightning.
In that critical instant, Li Zhengqing’s pupils constricted slightly.
A figure completely shrouded in black was rapidly approaching him from a distance. Ahead of this figure, nine wickedly sharp blades hurtled towards him with blinding speed.
Unable to render aid to Li Rui, Li Zhengqing urgently shifted his long blade, directing its arc towards the black-robed assailant.
Concurrently, he brought forth a jade token.
This token, palm-sized, began to glow with an azure light that intensified under Li Zhengqing’s activation.
The azure radiance expanded outwards, encompassing a radius of one hundred zhang around him. Naturally, Li Xinxin and Young Master Ming, standing beside him, were also drawn within this protective aura.
This jade token was evidently a defensive spirit treasure for the divine soul, though its apparent grade was low. The azure light it emitted provided only minimal impedance against the nine approaching blades.
Nine ethereal blades sliced through the azure light barrier, their power only slightly diminished, before plunging directly into Li Zhengqing’s Sea of Consciousness.
"Ah..."
Li Zhengqing emitted a piercing shriek, his body contorting violently before he rigidly collapsed onto the ground.
Simultaneously, the protective power of his jade token and longsword treasures ceased to function.
Li Xinxin, positioned close by, quickly channeled her spiritual power to bolster Li Zhengqing.
Meanwhile, Li Rui had been forcefully driven to the ground by the golden lightning, his impact creating a colossal crater.
By this time, the golden lightning’s power was almost entirely depleted. Though bruised and battered, Li Rui had managed to survive.
Suddenly, a blade of light pierced through the receding golden waterfall, its trajectory aimed squarely at Li Rui’s face.
His senses muddled by the surrounding golden torrent, Li Rui only registered the blade when it was mere inches away. With no time to properly react, he could only instinctively duck, attempting to evade the lethal strike.
He succeeded in dodging the blade, which merely grazed his scalp, tearing away a few strands of hair and shattering his protective spiritual power.
However, the blade abruptly unleashed a torrent of Golden Sharp Qi, cascading down upon his head.
Instantly, Li Rui’s scalp was torn asunder, blood erupting from the nearly pulverized flesh.
While this grievous injury posed no ultimate threat to him, the Golden Sharp Qi had not only mangled his scalp but had also penetrated his Sea of Consciousness, inflicting searing agony upon his divine soul as if it were being flayed alive.
Gritting his teeth, Li Rui endured the torment and prepared to charge through the dissipating golden lightning, his shield held high.
Crack!
Another deafening roar echoed from the heavens.
A second bolt of golden lightning struck the shield.
The shield was instantly obliterated, and the golden lightning surged around Li Rui, utterly consuming him.
When the dazzling golden light finally faded, Li Rui was discovered lying contorted on the ground, his body scorched to a charcoal black, with faint wisps of smoke still rising from his seared flesh.
Owing to Song Wen’s deliberate restraint, Li Rui had survived, albeit suffering critical injuries.
Witnessing both their Void Refinement Stage cultivators critically wounded and incapable of offering resistance, Li Xinxin and Young Master Ming were overcome with sheer terror.
"Senior, have mercy!" Li Xinxin implored, her voice trembling. "The attack on your cultivation cave had nothing to do with our Li Clan. Could there be some misunderstanding?"
The Cosmic Transformation Incarnation pressed its spear tip directly against Li Rui’s forehead, while Song Wen approached Li Xinxin and her son.
"The individual who raided my cultivation cave personally confessed to being a member of your Li Clan," Song Wen stated, his tone chillingly cold.
Li Xinxin countered immediately, "That thieving cultivator must be fabricating tales to falsely incriminate my Li Clan."
"Then why would he choose to frame your clan specifically?" Song Wen inquired, his voice dropping to a menacing growl.
"This…" Li Xinxin faltered, finding herself at a loss for words.
Song Wen pressed on, "Even if that rogue cultivator isn't directly affiliated with your Li Clan, he is undoubtedly connected to you in some significant way. Either he harbors a deep-seated grudge against the Li Clan, or he is embroiled in some internal power struggle with you. Return and inform Li Tianhe—I do not care about the identity of that person. The Li Clan bears the responsibility of locating him and delivering him into my hands. If you fail, all three of them… will perish."
Li Tianhe was known to be the Li Clan’s Ancestor, a formidable cultivator at the Body Integration Stage.
"You are allowing me to return?" Li Xinxin asked, a flicker of surprise crossing her face.
Song Wen gave a curt nod. "Make sure to convey to Li Tianhe that he shouldn't even entertain the thought of attempting a rescue. Should he try, I possess numerous methods to eliminate all three without leaving any trace for him to pursue. Furthermore, I will continue to torment the Li Clan, ensuring you never find a moment of peace."
Li Xinxin then pleaded, "May I be permitted to take my son with me? He is merely at the Nascent Soul stage. You already hold my husband and Li Zhengqing, both cultivators of the Void Refinement Stage, as hostages. To you, my son is of no consequence."
Song Wen's response was sharp: "You are in no position to negotiate with me."
Still unwilling to accept defeat, Li Xinxin made another desperate plea.
"Senior, please allow me to remain here while my son delivers the message."
"Absolutely not!" Song Wen's refusal was immediate and unwavering.
He had observed this woman's earlier feigned retreat, a maneuver executed with flawless precision. Keeping someone possessing such meticulous cunning by his side posed a far greater risk than keeping the utterly useless Young Master Ming.
Li Xinxin remained frozen, hesitating in her decision.
Song Wen added a final ultimatum, "If you refuse to depart, all four of you will meet your end."
"Senior, I will leave at once," Li Xinxin declared hastily.
Casting a worried glance at Young Master Ming and a final look at Li Rui, who lay grievously injured at the valley's depths, she turned and made her exit.
"Mother, don't leave me! I don't want to die..." Young Master Ming wailed, his eyes fixed on Li Xinxin's receding figure.
Yet, Li Xinxin did not look back, continuing her flight until she was far into the distance.
Song Wen then gathered the three hostages and the Cosmic Transformation Incarnation, vanishing from the scene with incredible swiftness.
