Previously on Record of a Demon's Cultivation...
Song Wen interrogated Ji Lin about the Six Fiends Hall's secrets and operations before devouring his divine soul. Deep in the Primordial Qi Death Zone, he absorbed Fu Liang's spiritual power and, aided by the Interpretive Cloud Pill, broke through to late-stage Void Refinement, spending eight years stabilizing his cultivation as his companions advanced. Disguised as a mortal, he entered the barren Luyang City to probe the Six Fiends Hall but, after over a month, encountered six Orthodox Path Body Integration cultivators instead.

Golden rays from the ascending sun bathed the vast desert in a radiant sheen.

Song Wen stood within a crumbling abode, staring through a gap in the roof at the airborne silhouettes, a spark of dread flashing in his gaze.

A female cultivator floated motionless in the air, her pristine white garments fluttering in the fresh dawn wind. Her face remained frosty, her eyes piercing as she fixed them on a distant crack along the horizon.

Down in the city, ordinary folk looked up in reverence, as though beholding a celestial beauty gracing the mortal realm or a redeemer come to rescue them. Numerous individuals dropped to their knees and prostrated, murmuring pleas:

"Immortal Maiden, show mercy! Bestow refreshing rain to quench the parched earth!"

"Divine Goddess, display your splendor! Grant us pure water and sustenance so we may survive!"

...along with various invocations to deities and Buddhas.

Yet a mounting anxiety churned within Song Wen’s chest.

He knew the airborne woman: Bai Wei from the Spirit Jade Palace.

Apart from Bai Wei, five additional silhouettes lingered far off, encircling a rift three hundred miles distant. They made no effort to hide their auras, and even from this range, Song Wen detected that all six were righteous cultivators at the Body Integration Stage.

In this desert void of Spiritual Qi, six Body Integration Stage righteous cultivators had assembled, their intent plain as day.

Song Wen cursed his rotten luck for stumbling into a sudden "clash of righteousness against evil." He dashed from the Six Fiends Hall, legs pumping furiously in escape.

To avoid detection, he refrained from employing spiritual power or displaying his Void Refinement Stage cultivator’s mighty body, reduced to fleeing at an ordinary mortal’s speed.

While Song Wen escaped, the six aerial cultivators initiated their ritual.

Before each one, a three-foot array disk materialized, as their fingers swiftly wove magical seals.

Cyan brilliance exploded from the array disks, surging upward and merging overhead into a gigantic glowing orb.

Cyan radiance pulsed outward from the orb, gradually shaping a tremendous, see-through barrier etched with myriad mystical cyan runes.

Intentionally or inherently, the barrier spared Luyang City from its coverage.

This mattered little to Song Wen, whose shelter sat on the city’s fringe. He had already burst past the walls.

Suddenly, a deafening rumble shattered the desert silence.

"Fellow Daoists, what purpose draws you to the Six Fiends Hall?"

The voice thundered like rolling peals, echoing through the skies.

Song Wen, now atop the closest peak beyond the city, couldn’t resist glancing back.

At the barrier’s heart, two cultivators suspended themselves in the air.

One resembled a shriveled old man, his form like a desiccated mummy.

The other looked middle-aged, bearing no clear corpse cultivator traits save for the corpse qi coiling about him.

Drawing from intel supplied by Blood Scar and Fu Liang, Song Wen instantly identified the first as Gong Tianzong, mid-Body Integration Stage, and the second as Wei Gu, late-Body Integration Stage.

Wei Gu, the superior in rank, had uttered the words.

Though outnumbered six-to-two by righteous foes inside their trapping array, both exuded composure without a hint of fear.

"Wei Gu, your Six Fiends Hall has perpetrated heinous deeds, massacring myriad mortals for cultivation gains. Today, we arrive to enforce the Dao and mete out heavenly retribution," proclaimed a towering, commanding figure among the six righteous cultivators.

His presence exuded a keen, slashing aura, akin to a blade poised for unsheathing.

"Ah, Fellow Daoist Jian Xiao of the Myriad Swords Pavilion," Wei Gu replied with a grin, eyes alight. "Our Divine Blood Gate has long upheld a truce of non-aggression with the Southern Nether Continent’s three mighty sects. You bask in the continent’s core abundance of Spiritual Qi, favored by heaven and earth, while we flourish unbound in this forsaken, Qi-starved frontier. Why raise blades over trivial mortals?"

Jian Xiao’s features hardened icily, his stare cutting like tempered steel.

"Wei Gu, cease your empty rhetoric. For eons, your Six Fiends Hall has skulked beyond the Primordial Qi Death Zone, obeying Divine Blood Gate commands. Your schemes run deep. Eradicating you alone safeguards against looming disasters and secures tranquility for the Southern Nether Continent."

"Hahahaha..."

Wei Gu tilted his head skyward, erupting in wild guffaws as if struck by the height of folly. Mockery and scorn laced every chuckle.

"If the Divine Blood Gate truly sought to dominate the Southern Nether Continent, why would we bother sending you here to probe their defenses? Even if your three great sects joined forces, you would be no more than a mantis trying to stop a chariot before the Divine Blood Gate. Your presence here today stems from the Six Fiends Hall’s ten-thousand-year occupation of this region. The three great sects suspect there’s a secret hidden within the Primordial Qi Death Zone and hope to pry it from us. The irony is that your Great Ascension Stage old monsters, fearing danger, sent only you few here."

Sword intent erupted around Jian Xiao as he bellowed, "Wei Gu, cease your arrogant boasts! The Six Fiends Hall has only you and Gong Tianzong, both at the Body Integration Stage. The six of us are more than enough to crush you. Moreover, you’re already trapped within our formation—escape is impossible. Whatever secrets lie within the Primordial Qi Death Zone, we’ll extract them by capturing your divine soul and interrogating it."

Amusement gleamed in Wei Gu’s eyes, a wicked grin twisting his lips. "So, it truly is just you six fools here to die. I thought there might be Great Ascension cultivators lurking in the shadows! In that case, prepare to offer your lives. I’ve been needing Body Integration Stage corpses to refine my Nine-Body Fiend Corpse."

Jian Xiao finally grasped that Wei Gu had purposely referenced the "Great Ascension Stage old monsters" to lure him into exposing their real power. In one careless instant, he had revealed their true numbers.

"Wei Gu, your sharp tongue won’t save you," Jian Xiao growled, his voice thundering like a storm.

"Attack!"

With that order, Jian Xiao and the five other orthodox cultivators swiftly changed their hand seals together.

While Wei Gu had tested their barriers with his words, Jian Xiao had bought time, giving his companions sufficient moments to fully activate the formation.

In a flash, a thousand-zhang light sword formed above the array’s shield, diving down like a meteor tearing through the heavens, targeting Wei Gu and Gong Tianzong directly below.

Before it even hit, the tremendous sword intent emanating from the blade felt like divine punishment crashing down, forcing the two corpse cultivators to struggle just to stay airborne.

Cracks spiderwebbed across the ground beneath, hurling up thick clouds of dust and rubble into the sky.

But Wei Gu and Gong Tianzong stayed completely calm.

Gong Tianzong unleashed a Blood-Colored Corpse Coffin that ballooned in the gale to a hundred zhang across. Shrouded in endless corpse qi, it rocketed upward to confront the falling sword.

Boom!

A earth-shaking explosion rang out as the sword smashed into the Corpse Coffin.

The corpse qi enveloping the coffin scattered immediately, the coffin itself sliced open and propelled backward with tremendous speed, slamming into the terrain.

The ground quaked fiercely.

Ripples spread from the collision site like ocean waves, flinging countless rock pieces and dust high into the air.
