Gu Wanqing eagerly awaited her second brother's arrival at the train station. She reunited with him in an emotional embrace, finally seeing him after many years. Her father and daughter, Xinyan, also disembarked, and the family prepared to head home together, with Gu Wanqing explaining her arrangements for her mother's care.

Before Gu Wanqing departed, she personally ensured her mother consumed two Heart Nourishing Pills, concocted earlier by Xinyan. She offered several reminders to her mother, preparing her for what was to come. Gu Wanqing even arranged for Aunt Zhang to arrive early, ensuring her mother would have company. Although she desperately wished to reveal the full truth, she hesitated, fearing her mother might not cope well without Xinyan present. Consequently, she concealed the news of Second Brother's imminent return to the Capital. News regarding Second Brother had surfaced; perhaps this time, a reunion was truly achievable. Such uncertain tidings sparked hope within her, yet kept her emotions in check, preventing excessive excitement. Experiencing his presence firsthand, after an initial emotional buffer, should prove manageable.

There was no delay once they exited the train station. Upon the car's arrival at the Gu Family's gates, Gu Yize's eyes welled up, his voice trembling as he uttered, "Home, at last." The memory of returning only to find the gate sealed evoked a complex tapestry of emotions within him.

Old Madam Gu, alerted by the sound of the car outside the gate, seemingly drawn by an inexplicable maternal bond, hurried outside. Her gaze landed on the assembled group, and she instantly recognized Gu Yize. "Yize, yes, it's my little Ze," she exclaimed. Gu Yize, seeing the person he had yearned for day and night, swiftly approached. "Mother, your ungrateful son has returned." Old Madam Gu extended a trembling hand. "Little Ze, my child, where have you been all these years?" The elderly matriarch struggled to remain standing, prompting Xinyan to step forward quickly. "Second Uncle, please carry Grandma inside." Gu Yize noticed his mother's distressed state and moved to support her. "Mother, please don't frighten me." Xinyan gently urged, "Grandma, please listen to me. Take a deep breath and follow along." Gu Wanqing, visibly shaken, faced her greatest fear realized. She clasped her mother's hand tightly. "Mom, please listen to Yanyan. Calm yourself and be obedient."

Once inside the living room, Xinyan promptly administered two pills, which she had prepared in her personal space a few days prior, to her grandmother. She then positioned herself behind the elder woman, commencing a gentle head massage. Old Madam Gu, holding her daughter Gu Wanqing's hand with one, and gripping her son's with the other, finally found a measure of calm after a considerable time. "Little Ze, you're finally home. I can finally see you." Gu Wanqing, observing her mother's fragile state, was overcome with worry and glanced towards Xinyan. Xinyan offered a reassuring shake of her head. "It's alright. Allowing her to release these emotions is beneficial." For a span, the room echoed with the tender exchange and quiet sobs between mother and son.

By the time composure was restored, an hour had elapsed. Old Madam Gu tenderly touched her son's gaunt face. "You must have endured much hardship over these years." As she spoke, tears welled in her eyes once more. A sudden recollection brought a hint of resentment to her gaze as she looked at Gu Wanqing. "So, this is why you arranged for so much food delivery this morning and had Sister Li so busy; you were keeping this reunion a secret from me." Gu Wanqing pouted, "I was wrong. Hiding such significant news from you was a mistake. However, considering your health, and with Xinyan not here, I truly dared not risk it. Will you be the bigger person and overlook my transgression?" Old Madam Gu, fully understanding her daughter's concern for her well-being, feigned anger, lightly patting Gu Wanqing a few times before letting it drop. Yet, her gaze shifted back to her second son, and fresh tears flowed. "If only your elder brother hadn't met with misfortune, how wonderful it would be." Both Gu Wanqing and Gu Yize cried out in unison, "Mom." Old Madam Gu, her voice thick with emotion, confessed, "In the end, I was too greedy. I should have been content." For a moment, the specter of the Gu family's eldest son, Gu Yihong, cast a shadow of sorrow over everyone present. After a brief silence, Mr. Gu spoke, "Shuqing, living well in the present is paramount. In a few days, let us visit Yihong together, to pay our respects, console his spirit in heaven, and allow him to rest in peace."
