Young Master Dou revealed that Ms. Meng's schemes were predictable and that she was merely a pawn. He planned to use the captured assassins and bodies to file a complaint against the Meng family. Young Master Dou also revealed to a captured assassin that the contracts were never in the room and the silver transport was protected by the prefecture garrison, foiling their plans.

Meng Wu’s countenance shifted drastically upon hearing this revelation.

A swift comprehension dawned on Young Master Dou, who then let out a furious roar, "That woman is truly beyond foolish!"

To think she would dispatch assassins, disguised among fierce bandits, to seize Silver; this was an act of utter self-destruction.

"Commander Qin, what course of action should we pursue now?" Young Master Dou voiced, a discernible anxiety lacing his tone. His ambition was to dismantle the Meng Family, yet he harbored no desire for the Dou Family's demise. What inheritance would remain for him if the Dou Family ceased to exist?

Qin San Lang responded, "Young Master Dou need not fret. Those individuals were assassins. Should their endeavor turn unfavorable, they would prioritize eliminating any witnesses among the bandits and effecting their escape. The likelihood of their capture alive is exceedingly remote. Even if apprehended, Steward Dou and the Meng Family would devise strategies to extricate themselves. While the Meng Family might face severe repercussions, the Dou Family should remain unscathed."

Dou Ke’s father, despite his preferential treatment towards Ms. Meng and his neglect of Dou Ke, was a competent individual who would not trifle with matters of life and death concerning his family.

Contemplating Qin San Lang's words, Young Master Dou found some measure of peace for the moment.

Rumble~ Rumble~

A distant sound of collapse echoed. Young Master Dou immediately stormed out of the house. His gaze, drawn towards the source of the noise, landed upon the former imposing structure of the Hu Family's ancestral home, now vanished, replaced by a towering blaze that licked the sky.

"The Hu Family's ancestral home has been reduced to ashes!" Young Master Dou exclaimed with elation to Qin San Lang. "Commander Qin's strategy is truly ingenious; incinerating the stronghold to vanquish the adversaries proved far more expedient than a direct assault for capture."

Upon hearing Young Master Dou’s declaration, Meng Wu grasped that the individuals at the Hu Family's ancestral home had met their end. The shock he felt earlier dissipated. He had already endured a night replete with startling occurrences; the conflagration engulfing the Hu Family's ancestral home no longer registered as a significant event.

What Meng Wu had not anticipated was his own defeat at the hands of a provincial soldier. The irony was palpable!

Having dedicated himself to honing his skills since the tender age of three, he was recognized as one of the most formidable assassins within the Meng Family. With another decade of dedication, he could have aspired to lead the Meng Family’s assassination corps.

Yet, now, he found himself utterly powerless, reduced to a captive awaiting slaughter, denied even the basic right to end his own life.

"Sir, Doctor Zhou has arrived," announced one of Dou Meng’s men, who had, in fact, summoned Doctor Zhou earlier.

Doctor Zhou arrived trembling, clinging to his attendant's arm, his mind filled with dread of a grim fate. However, upon sighting Qin San Lang, his apprehension subsided, and he called out, "Commander Qin, your presence brings me immense reassurance."

He then inquired, "What precisely transpired this evening? Could it be that fierce bandits have indeed infiltrated our county? The populace outside has been circulating rumors of bandits entering the city."

Not only had the bank encountered irregularities, but the Hu Family's ancestral home, long deserted, had also been engulfed in flames. They had passed the alley entrance of the Hu Family's ancestral home just moments before and had heard sounds of conflict emanating from within.

Qin San Lang clarified, "No fierce bandits breached our borders. It was merely a contingent of Young Master Dou's adversaries. Those individuals have been apprehended. Doctor Zhou need not harbor concerns. Please attend to this individual; he is a crucial witness whose life must be preserved."

Given the pervasive chaos stemming from tax issues across the land, Tianfu County was already in a state of precarious stability. Qin San Lang was keen to prevent the propagation of rumors concerning bandit incursions, which would only exacerbate the county's unrest.

Doctor Zhou let out a sigh of relief. "Commander Qin, your assurance alleviates my fears."

The troubles instigated by Young Master Dou's enemies were solely directed at him, posing no threat to the general populace, thus cementing his relief.

He then turned his attention to Meng Wu, observing, "Is this the individual in question? Oh, he appears to be quite severely injured. First, we must remove the blades impaling him; only after he is brought down can we commence treatment."

"Very well," Qin San Lang acknowledged. He approached Meng Wu and, with a swift movement, dislocated Meng Wu’s uninjured arm before extracting the blade pinning him. Without pause, he expertly severed the tendons in Meng Wu’s foot just as he began to fall.

Doctor Zhou and his attendant's faces turned deathly pale... It was no wonder Qin San Lang bore the moniker 'King Yan'; he dismembered a man with chilling silence.

Qin San Lang produced a pristine white cloth and meticulously wiped the blood from his long blade. "Doctor Zhou, fear not. He is now incapable of causing further harm. You may proceed with treating his injuries; his dislocated arm and jaw require no immediate resetting."

The attendant, visibly trembling like a sieve, remained speechless...

We are terrified of you!

"Alright, alright, I shall commence treatment immediately," Doctor Zhou acquiesced. Supported by his attendant, he hurried over to attend to Meng Wu's wounds.

Meng Wu's injuries, while not life-threatening, inflicted pain that few could endure. Despite having his arm severed, he remained conscious, earning Doctor Zhou's grudging respect for his fortitude.

Qin San Lang approached a nearby table, retrieved a cup of tea, and proceeded to wash his long blade. He then took out an oiled cloth, continuing his meticulous maintenance of the weapon.

Observing this ritual, Young Master Dou remarked admiringly, "Commander Qin, this blade of yours possesses a truly striking appearance."

Qin San Lang beamed with pride, proclaiming, "Indeed, this is a rare, exceptional blade. Its sharpness is remarkable; it can effortlessly cleave through soft armor."

This very blade was a creation of Xiao Yu, the result of two years of dedicated research. It was originally intended as a nineteenth birthday gift for him. However, on his actual birthday, the knife was nowhere to be found.

He understood then that she had failed once more in her crafting. While he had initially resolved to continue his patient wait, he stumbled upon this Tang Blade within her chambers. Casting a glance or two at it, he inadvertently caught her attention.

She appeared quite vexed, lamenting that the surprise had been spoiled.

He inwardly chided himself for scrutinizing the blade too closely, thereby revealing it to her. Ultimately, she still presented him with the knife, remarking, "Since you've already seen it, take it for now. If you find any inconveniences with it, inform me, and I will make improvements."

Overjoyed, he accepted the weapon, stating, "It is the finest gift I could ever receive. I am deeply delighted."

He could still vividly recall her expression at that moment... the annoyance vanished from her fair, exquisite face, replaced by sheer happiness. She smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners, looking utterly charming.

Recalling the joy that lit up her features, Qin San Lang's smile widened, yet he chose not to reveal the blade's true origin to Young Master Dou.

After all, clandestine weapon crafting of this nature was not meant for public knowledge. Even someone like Dou Ke, in this day and age, ought not to be privy to such secrets.

"Alright, the wound has been bandaged. As long as it doesn't fester and cause a fever, he will not perish," Doctor Zhou declared, along with his attendant, after a lengthy forty-five-minute session tending to Meng Wu's injury.

"The consultation fee, including the cost of medicine, amounts to eighty taels. Young Master Dou should dispatch someone with me to the Zhou Family Clinic to collect the medication," Doctor Zhou stated, believing his price to be quite reasonable. He had taken a significant risk coming here urgently, driven by the favor owed to Company Commander Qin. Initially, he had considered charging one hundred taels, given Young Master Dou's evident wealth.

Young Master Dou responded, "Dou Meng, disburse the silver and send someone for the medicine."

"Yes, Young Master," Dou Meng replied. He produced the silver, handed it to Doctor Zhou, and instructed the Shadow Guard, who had been dispatched earlier to summon the physician, to accompany him and retrieve the medicine.

Once Doctor Zhou had departed, Qin San Lang gently handed the unconscious Meng Wu over to Young Master Dou. He advised, "There's a possibility that assassins may arrive to silence him. Young Master Dou should perhaps temporarily relocate Meng Wu and his group to the Ouyang Family's estate. The Meng Family holds the Ouyang Family in considerable fear; even if they were to send assassins, they would hesitate to launch a direct assault on the Ouyang stronghold."

Young Master Dou's face lit up with delight upon hearing this suggestion: "Company Commander Qin's foresight is truly commendable. I shall arrange for Ouyang Family's Shadow Guards to escort them there immediately."

Qin San Lang nodded his assent and exited the room, leaving the immediate aftermath to be handled.

The blaze at the bank had by then been extinguished. Only a few rooms had succumbed to the flames.

You Ping, leading his men, had rushed to the ancestral residence of the Hu Family. Upon his return, he reported, "Master, we apprehended three individuals at the Hu Family's old house. Each bore a fresh wound beneath their armpit, suggesting they are likely assassins dispatched by the Meng Family. Boss Hu has already sent a Protector, asserting that his ancestral home has always been vacant and never rented. He professes ignorance as to how these individuals gained entry to launch rockets and emphatically denies any affiliation with them. Furthermore, he stated that no compensation would be necessary for the loss of their old house due to the fire."
