Erebra and Gioni turned their gaze toward Javier the moment they heard the low chuckle from him.
Javier’s shoulders began to shake, his laughter growing louder as he tilted his head back, one hand pressed against his forehead. He pointed at them between laughs, his voice dripping with mock amusement.
"Bwahahaha! Who told you two could leave? Huh!? Huuuhhh!?"
His grin widened, his eyes locking onto the two of them with cold, predatory focus.
"You really thought I’d just let you both escape? You really believe I’d let a bunch of shitheads like you two slip away after threatening my beautiful elf? After threatening to eat and kill my people? After endangering my family? Puh-lease~"
He took a slow step forward, his boots crunching over the cracked earth as he spread his arms wide. His smile turned sharp and dangerous, the air around him humming with suppressed power.
"I’ve been disrupting the mana around this entire area, and all the areas you and your friends think you can come and go. No portals. No teleportation. No running away."
He took another step, then another, his movements calm and unhurried, like a predator savoring the moment before the kill.
"Welcome to my playground, Erebra. You and your hungry friend aren’t leaving until..."
His eyes began to glow with a serious, radiant blue, the light intensifying with each passing second as his aura flared around him like a living storm.
"...you two are dead."
Javier vanished from their sight, reappearing between them in an instant. Before Gioni could react, Javier’s boot slammed into his side, sending him hurtling across the cracked earth. He crashed hard, his massive body skidding through the dirt before coming to a halt.
Javier raised his palm, and a dozen glowing white chains erupted from the ground around Gioni. They coiled around his massive frame, tightening with a searing hiss as the holy energy burned into his waxy skin.
Gioni thrashed and screamed, his voice cracking between rage and agony as the chains pulled him flat against the earth, pinning him in place. Smoke rose from where the radiant links touched his flesh, each movement making him howl louder.
Javier turned to Erebra, his hand shooting out and grabbing her face with crushing force. He slammed her head into the ground, the impact cracking the earth beneath her, her scream muffled by his grip.
"Aw~ come on~" Javier mocked, lifting her head by her face, making her hang limply in his grasp as he glanced up at her with a cold, amused smile. "Didn’t you say you were going to make sure I... what was it again? Oh, right. ’Die for certain.’ Hmm? That’s a bit embarrassing now, isn’t it?"
He shoved her upward, her body flying into the air before he reappeared above her, delivering a devastating downward kick that slammed her into the ground with a sickening crunch. She gasped, her eyes widening in shock as the air was driven from her lungs.
Before she could recover, Javier descended, his fists glowing with white holy power as he unleashed a barrage of punches, each strike landing with brutal precision, her body jerking with every impact.
Gioni squirmed and thrashed, trying desperately to break free from the holy chains, his roars of pain and fury echoing across the plain. Javier appeared beside him in an instant, holding a glass bottle filled with a glowing, dark purple liquid.
"Hey, hey~ Gioni, right? I’m sure you’re hungry~" Javier’s voice was light and mocking, his grin wide. "Here, drink up~ This should fill that bottomless stomach of yours real nice~"
He grabbed Gioni’s jaw, forcing his mouth open before shoving the bottle between his jagged teeth. The dark purple liquid poured down Gioni’s throat in a single, swift motion.
Gioni’s eyes went wide, his body convulsing as the liquid hit his stomach. His face twisted in confusion, then horror, as his insides began to churn violently.
Javier stepped back, wiping his hands with an exaggerated flourish.
"There we go~ A little something I whipped up just for you. Think of it as a super-powered laxative, specifically designed for big eaters who can’t control themselves~ Should clear you right out in a few seconds~"
Gioni let out a pained, gurgling wail, his massive body shaking as the glowing liquid did its work, leaving him writhing in misery beneath the holy chains.
Javier’s coat shimmered and shifted, transforming into a pristine white doctor’s coat that gleamed under the fading light. He snapped his fingers, and a massive syringe materialized in his hand, filled with a glowing white liquid that pulsed with soft, radiant energy.
He slid a pair of glasses onto his face, nudging them up with a practiced motion, a cold smile spreading across his lips.
"Now, now~ For the naughty Envy..." He tilted his head, the syringe twirling between his fingers with practiced ease. "I’ve got something more special for you~"
Erebra forced herself up in a panic, her breath ragged as she scrambled to her feet. Her eyes darted around wildly before she bolted, running as fast as her body could carry her. But Javier appeared in front of her in an instant, blocking her path.
She stumbled back, turning on her heel and sprinting the other way, only to find him already standing there, that same cold smirk waiting for her. She gasped, her body frozen in terror as he reached out and grabbed her wrist with an iron grip.
"Ah ah ah~" Javier pulled her closer, his voice soft and mocking. "A good patient should always listen to her doctor, don’t you think~? Running away only makes the treatment hurt more~"
He plunged the syringe into her arm, pressing the plunger down in one smooth motion. The glowing white liquid surged into her veins, spreading through her body like liquid fire. Erebra screamed, her voice cracking as the divine energy seared through her from the inside, her dark flesh convulsing as the purification took hold.
Javier stepped back, releasing her as she crumpled to the ground, her body twitching and writhing in agony.
"See~? That wasn’t so hard, was it~?" He adjusted his glasses with one finger, his grin widening. "This will purify all that nasty envy building up inside you~ Don’t worry~ It’ll only hurt for a moment~"
He turned and walked toward Gioni, who was still writhing in agony, his massive body convulsing as the laxative ravaged his insides. The white chains still held him pinned, their holy energy searing his waxy flesh. Javier crouched down beside him, pulling out a small white bottle filled with a clear, shimmering liquid.
"Hey~ Big guy~" Javier’s voice was soft, almost gentle. "This will make the pain go away~"
He grabbed Gioni’s jaw and forced the bottle past his lips, pouring the white liquid down his throat. Gioni’s eyes bulged, his body convulsing violently as the liquid spread through him.
Javier leaned closer, his voice dropping into a cold, mocking whisper.
"See~? Tastes better than my beautiful elf, right~? I made sure to add a little extra flavor, just for you~"
Gioni let out one final, gurgling scream, his massive form swelling before cracks of radiant light split across his skin. The light burst from within him, consuming him from the inside out until his body dissolved into wisps of dark smoke, scattering into the wind until nothing remained.
Javier stood slowly, slipping his hands into his pockets as he strolled toward Erebra, who was still convulsing on the ground, her body breaking apart piece by piece. He crouched down lazily, tilting his head as he watched her writhe.
"Don’t get me wrong~ I’m not evil, you know~" He tilted his head, his voice dropping low. "But when I face monsters who threaten the people I love... I become something far worse than you could ever imagine. I match evil with something even darker. So if your master ever summons you again..."
He leaned closer, his voice barely above a whisper, each word laced with quiet menace.
"...remember this pain. Remember what I did to you. And remember that if you ever come back, if you ever cross my path again, I’ll make this look like mercy. I’ll find you, no matter where you hide. I’ll make sure you beg for an end that will never come. And when I’m done... there won’t even be ash left to remember you by."
Erebra let out a final, trembling gasp before her body dissolved, her form breaking apart into dark motes that scattered and faded into nothing.
Javier rose to his feet, brushing a speck of dust from his sleeve as his doctor’s coat shimmered and shifted back into his noble attire. He stood still for a moment, his eyes narrowing as they drifted toward a massive tree in the distance.
A lone figure stood against the trunk, watching from the shadows, still and silent.
Javier’s lips curled into a faint, knowing smirk as he whispered to the wind.
"Don’t worry~ Your turn will come soon enough~"
