Javier and his companions enjoyed a casual barbecue while Aelius took a call. Meanwhile, in the Vurghen Region, Friedrich learned that their defenses had fallen and Captain Romich was dead. Facing an overwhelming enemy, Friedrich was urged to flee to Armand or Arjam for aid, but hesitated to abandon his people. As he and his sister attempted to escape in a carriage, they were ambushed by explosive arrows, destroying the carriage and leaving Friedrich injured and separated from his sister.

Meanwhile.

Armand Nation.

Javier’s personal workshop.

The evening air was filled with the sizzle of fresh meat hitting the grill, the clinking of wine glasses, and the easy laughter of brothers unwinding after a long meeting. A puppet worker, one of Javier’s automated creations, stood silently by the grill, flipping the meat with mechanical precision while Buddy circled it like a feathered vulture, waiting for any opportunity to snatch a piece.

Marcellus stretched out on his deck chair, his wine glass balanced on his stomach. He noticed Javier pulling out a sleek, metallic helmet from his dimensional storage and slipping it over his head. Faint runes along the surface began to glow.

Marcellus raised an eyebrow. "What are you doing?"

Javier’s voice came through slightly muffled. "Oh, this? Just checking on something. Trying out my new puppet knight."

Marcellus smirked, taking a sip of his wine. "Didn’t Father say not to use your puppet knights?"

"I know. But this one’s different. It’s the latest model. I call it ’Humanoid.’"

Javier tapped the side of the helmet, and a faint holographic display flickered in front of his eyes.

"From a glance, he looks completely human. But it’s actually an upgraded version of the puppet knight, wearing a coat, can flex and pose like a real person, move with fluid human-like motion, and I’ve equipped it with dual mana guns, an assault mana rifle, and dual magic rapiers for close combat."

Cedric, who had just finished another glass of wine, set it down with a satisfied sigh before glancing at Javier with a smirk.

"I wonder why Father insisted on not letting you use your puppet knights. You used them in Tybalt and Mathrias without any issue."

Javier smiled, his eyes still focused on the holographic display.

"There’s a reason. According to the documents Celine’s father provided, Julius is sending a few of his hero teams to scout us out one last time. They’re gathering intelligence on Armand. Father doesn’t want them to know about my puppet knights. Those summoned heroes are from another world, remember? They might have knowledge that could recognize what my knights are. If they see mechanical soldiers moving with precision and coordination, they might piece together that we have technology far beyond what this world should have. And if that happens, we lose our trump card before the real battle even begins."

Aelius glanced at Javier, his expression thoughtful.

"But you’ve already used your puppet knights in previous engagements. The defense of Armand back then, the Tybalt campaign, and even Mathrias recently. Surely someone saw them. Eyewitnesses, survivors... Word must have spread."

Javier chuckled softly, shaking his head.

"You’re not wrong, Brother. But think about it. The puppet knights I sent to Tybalt? Two hundred units against ten thousand Turka soldiers. They were wearing full gear, helmets, armor, just like any other Armand soldier. To the enemy and any onlookers, they were just soldiers, highly trained and well-equipped, but still soldiers. No one questioned it because they looked the part."

He paused, the holographic display shifting again.

"During the Mathrias campaign, I was leading a combined force of puppet knights, Armand soldiers, and loyal Mathrias forces. Again, my knights were indistinguishable from regular troops. Anyone who saw them would assume they were simply elite Armand soldiers. The idea that they might be autonomous constructs never crossed anyone’s mind."

He tapped the side of his helmet again, his expression turning thoughtful.

"But these summoned heroes? They’re different. They come from a world where technology advanced differently. They have knowledge that no one in this world possesses. If they see a group of soldiers moving with perfect synchronization, reacting without visible commands, and operating with mechanical precision, they might recognize the signs. They might piece together what my puppet knights truly are."

All three of them glanced at Javier with furrowed brows before Cedric spoke up, his voice carrying a hint of curiosity.

"You say that like you know the world the heroes come from."

Javier smirked, leaning back with an air of casual confidence. "I’m a genius, remember? Besides, it’s all in the documents. Don’t tell me you didn’t read them?" He wiggled his eyebrows with a grin. "The information from the interrogation of Gorak and Jaigar also gave us insight into ’their’ world. Their technology, their way of thinking. It’s completely different from ours."

Marcellus chuckled, shaking his head. "Genius my ass! You’re just lucky you have that Hand of Creation talent."

Javier shot back, a playful glint in his eyes. "What? You have the Power of Arcana, Cedric has the Power of Sanctum, and Aelius is a genius in market and economy. We should all be proud that we were born with special talents, and of course, born into the greatest family anyone could ever dream of."

Aelius smiled, nodding in agreement. "Yeah. Agreed."

Marcellus and Cedric exchanged glances before relaxing back into their chairs, matching smiles spreading across their faces. "Of course. Our family is the greatest. Also really good at manipulation."

Javier tilted his head down, a smirk spreading across his lips as he narrowed his eyes in a playful, knowing expression. "Hey~ Don’t talk bad about them~ It’s not manipulation~ It’s... strategic guidance~."

"Strategic guidance my ass!" Marcellus grinned, leaning back with both hands crossed behind his head. "But yeah. I love my family. I really do." He paused, glancing at Javier with a mischievous glint. "Hey, what do you think would have happened if you were born into... hmm... let’s say... the Klimar family?"

"Ewww! At least give me a better option than that!" Javier made a disgusted face, his nose wrinkling.

Aelius smiled, taking a sip of his wine. "It’s just a hypothesis. That’s what you call it, right?"

Javier rubbed his chin thoughtfully, reaching for a piece of roasted meat that the puppet worker had just placed on the tray. He took a bite, chewing slowly before answering.

"Hmm... If I were born into the Kimar family... I’d probably be ugly. Bloated from overindulgence. Weak, unable to invent anything. I’d spend my days whoring around, knocking up every maid and peasant girl in sight without a second thought, then abandoning them the moment they became inconvenient. I’d probably have a dozen bastards I never acknowledged, and a handful of nobles’ daughters I’d seduced and discarded just to satisfy my ego. I’d be the kind of noble who taxes his people into starvation while throwing lavish feasts, who sends men to die in pointless wars while sitting safely behind castle walls, and who thinks cruelty is a sign of strength. I’d be the kind of noble that everyone despises but no one dares to speak against because of my family name and rank."
