Reborn As Noble Chapter 1235: The Reluctant Messenger ( 1235 )

A gentle smile curved Juria's lips, her face relaxing noticeably.
"So... do you need anything from us?"
Gracelle tugged her blanket down a little, revealing just her eyes while she whispered from behind it.
"Can I see... Miss Elf, please?"
"Hmm?" Juria cocked her head. "Weren't you with her just this morning?"
"Mm... but... there's something I want to ask her... please?" Gracelle shot Juria her best pleading puppy-dog gaze.
Juria sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose.
"I’m not sure. For one, it’s nighttime already. She could be up, or maybe not. Also, you might not realize, but among the Armand staff, she’s as dutiful as Mrs. Erinette—strict, stern, and all business. Plus, she can get... intimidating."
"I..." Gracelle murmured quietly. "I just want to see her, even briefly. There’s something crucial I must verify. Please..."
Juria released a deep breath. "No guarantees, but I’ll check if it’s possible." She checked her mana watch, eyeing the hour. "Hmm... Given Liana’s schedule, she’s probably done with dinner, asleep, or tending to His Highness."
Gracelle drew the blanket lower still, her lips pressing into a pout. "Please... I need to confirm this, or... I won’t settle down. The uncertainty will keep me fretting."
Juria looked at Gracelle and shook her head. "I’ll give it a shot. But don’t count on her coming here. She’s not merely senior staff—she’s set to become His Highness’s formal fiancée and his primary future wife."
"Mm... I... I get it... Just let her know I need to learn something... it’s... super important." Gracelle’s voice quivered a touch, her gaze full of desperate sincerity.
Juria nodded reassuringly. "Rest up now. I’ll pass the message. But no promises." She pivoted to exit, stopping to tweak the monitoring gear by the bed. "Try relaxing, Miss Gracelle. Stress won’t aid your healing."
"Mm... alright." Gracelle nodded faintly, worry still shadowing her face.
Juria breathed out and spun around, stepping out of the ICU room.
After shutting the door, she approached the spot where Myra, Kalea, and the rest whispered together close by.
Myra looked up from her chair at Juria.
"Well? What’s His Highness’s patient asking for now?"
Juria sighed wearily, eyeing Myra and Kalea.
"She wants to see Miss Liana once more."
Kalea, catching the words, dashed to another table and faked busyness, as the other healers abruptly busied themselves—averting gazes, fiddling with devices, or muttering about supply checks—to evade summoning Liana.
Myra’s eyes bulged in shock. "H... hey!? What’s wrong with you all?!"
Yet all acted deaf, dodging looks, with some bolting for the restroom or storage, desperate to shirk the duty.
Myra gulped before flashing Juria a timid, awkward grin. "Uh... everyone’s occupied... and I must monitor the patient... so... hehe~"
Juria sighed, shaking her head.
"Alright... I’ll fetch her myself."
Those overhearing Juria’s words collectively exhaled in relief, grinning before clustering back at Myra’s table like nothing occurred.
Kalea beamed innocently, hands linked behind her as she sauntered to the table.
Juria shot them all a deadpan stare of disbelief.
"Really? All of you..."
Kalea looked away, rubbing her cheek. "Well... I’m the one who summoned her this morning... so... uh... yeah..."
Juria pinched her nose bridge, exhaling tiredly before eyeing Myra.
"I’m off now, Leader. Once done, I’m crashing. So... stay awake this time..."
After shedding her scrub top, cap, and mask, Juria scrubbed her hands and face at the sink. She grabbed a clean towel from the rack, patted her face dry, and peered into the mirror at her reflection.
I can’t figure out why I’m trekking to Liana over this patient.
And what urgent question could she have for her...
Sigh.
She checked the mana watch on her wrist, its faint light revealing the time.
Here’s hoping she’s eaten and not yet asleep.
If she’s sleeping or grumpy... I’ll just report back that she’s resting and no one risks disturbing her. She’ll wait till dawn.
But...
What if this keeps her from sleeping?
Sigh.
Now I may need Mrs. Erinette’s input... If it escalates, maybe there’s a workaround...
She arrived at the door, swung it open, and stepped into the spacious courtyard. Turning back, she closed it gently with a soft sigh escaping her lips before pivoting to head towards the next building.
Yet she stopped short and looked up, spotting the enormous orange Pekko looming directly before her.
Juria shook her head, a smile gracing her face.
"Hey, big bird. Don’t scare me like that."
"Cuquawked?" Buddy cocked his head and peered down at her.
Juria smiled and gazed up at him once more. "You might not know me well... since we rarely meet. I work at the Armand Healing Facility in Gaze City and rarely get to visit Armand Estate, you know."
Buddy grinned smugly with his large beak and squawked, "Cuquawked!" as he nudged her lightly with his massive wing, making her stagger a little.
Juria giggled softly. "Mou! Don’t do that." She glanced up at him. "Orangie?"
Buddy narrowed his eyes and looked down at her.
"Cuquawked!"
"Ah~ Sorry... mm..." Juria tapped a finger on her chin while staring up at him. "I believe our handsome, charming Prince calls you... Buddy, right?"
"Cuquawked!" Buddy puffed out his chest proudly, a smug smirk showing on his beak.
Juria smiled gently. "Do you think your master’s first wife..." she motioned for Buddy to bend down and whispered, "that beautiful but scary elf, is still awake?"
Buddy shrugged at her and turned his head aside, eyeing her with one eye.
Juria giggled lightly. "Sorry~ You don’t like anyone talking ’bad’ about your master’s future wife, huh?"
"Cuquawked?" Buddy stared at her, then squawked again with another shrug, his face plainly revealing little interest in the subject.
Juria gazed at the orange Pekko, her look turning tender.
"Can I pet... your wing?"
"Cuquawked!" Buddy swelled his chest and shot her a sideways glance, but stayed put.
Juria smiled and cautiously extended her hand to his giant wing, softly stroking the plush, fluffy feathers.
"Mm~ So soft." She pressed her cheek against his wing, eyes fluttering shut briefly. "I really wish I could own a Pekko for myself, you know."
"Cuquawked?" Buddy looked at her puzzled, tilting his head a bit.
"Ah..." Juria drew back gradually after savoring the warm, silky feathers. "You’re the first Pekko I’ve ever gotten this close to. I know there are a lot of wild Pekko around, but they never really let me touch them or get close."
She offered a faint smile. "I wonder why. The kids in Armand can mount and play with them, and even the soldiers and guards have their own. They’re so lucky."
"Cuquawked!"
"Thanks for comforting me." Juria smiled, dipping into her pocket to retrieve a wrapped candy. "Want some?"
Buddy eyed the tiny candy from above, bestowing a selective, critical stare before issuing a haughty squawk and striding off with a conceited, measured gait.
"Prince Javier’s Pekko is really different and weird, huh?"
